Re: Stus-List new fresh water pump suggestions
Hi Paul, The first thing to clear up is that the pump capacity does not determine the amount of water used. In other words, the higher capacity pump does not waste more water... the consumer is the one wasting water! Whew. Glad to get that out of the way. Since you expressed interest in conserving water, and I'm onside 100%, I am led to believe that pressure water use will be somewhat closely monitored (observed) by the skipper. If this is the case I recommend the Jabsco Par-Max 3.5gal/min 40psi (32600-0092) with built-in bypass valve and no accumulator. This will provide decent galley service and occasional shower. This is not a recommendation for a liveaboard type system or sailing with a high maintenance Admiral (or girlfriend)! It is economical. Sure it's 50% more than the lessor Jabsco but it's only 50 bucks in the real world AND you don't need an accumulator, initially. If you find the need to improve the system later then add the accumulator. BTW, the cheaper Jabsco will really benefit having the accumulator installed at the onset. Re: Stus-List new fresh water pump suggestions
Thanks Francois. Power draw is also a concern. The 4.4A rated amp draw for the Par-Max 2.9 makes it desirable. I was concerned with flow rate proving enough pressure for the head/shower and galley. But to be honest, I don’t expect the shower and the galley faucets will be used simultaneously. So I just looked online regarding shower flow rates. It turns out that the Federal Energy Policy Act of 1992 required all faucet and shower fixtures made for the USA to have a flow rate of no more than 2.2 GPM at 60 PSI. So I guess that the 2.9 should provide a home-like shower stream. - Paul E. 1981 C&C 38 Landfall S/V Johanna Rose Carrabelle, FL > On Oct 7, 2015, at 9:48 AM, Jean-Francois J Rivard > wrote: > > Hi Paul, > > Between the two I'd go with the 2.9 based on the combination of flow / PSI / > Amps. Re: Stus-List new fresh water pump suggestions
Remember too that higher flow facilitates more water usage. I do what I can to conserve water. Water saver faucets and shower heads. It is a boat and having a "just like home" may be an expensive luxury. If you're at the pier then a freshwater regulator is probably a more cost effective solution for providing the "at home" experience. Then again if you're at a marina then they probably have a bath house. When you're on the hook or mooring you're gonna probably want to be conservative so as to stay out longer or not have to fill up as often. I can get 3 or 4 showers from each of my 3 20 gal tanks. Re: Stus-List new fresh water pump suggestions
Both pumps should be more than capable. Probably overkill. Those seem more like wash down pumps than freshwater pumps. "What's the difference?" Well, wash down pumps need more flow, higher pressure, typically don't have accumulators and most people don't care how loud they are. For freshwater I would give more consideration to the noise level. For comparison my pump is only 30 psi max and works fine. I don't know the gpm, maybe 2ish? And there have been times that I was surprised to find the pump running non-stop but couldn't initially tell since it was so quiet. You'll also want to find the largest accumulator that you can fit. Maybe more than one accumulator in various locations along the cold water line. Many accumulators are limited to 30psi anyway. Stus-List new fresh water pump suggestions
Hi, I am in the process of upgrading the fresh water plumbing on my boat. The old fresh water pump was removed long before I obtain this project. I am currently deciding between two pumps: a Jabsco Par-Max 2.9gal/min 50psi (31395-0092) and a Jabsco Par-Max 3.5gal/min 40psi (32600-0092). The Par-Max 3.5 cost about 50% more.I want to favor the Par-Max 2.9 to conserve water but I am interested to hear what other think about the 2.9 gal/min flow being enough? Thanks for anyones input. - Paul E. 1981 C&C 38 Landfall S/V Johanna Rose Carrabelle, FL ___ Email address: CnC-List@cnc-list.com To change your list preferences, including unsubscribing -- go to the bottom of page at: http://cnc-list.com/mailman/listinfo/cnc-list_cnc-list.com
