[cobirds] Golden-crowned Sparrow - Red Rocks - Jeffco
Threw some seed out before 7 at the Red Rocks feeders - The Adult Golden-crowned Sparrow appeared for the first time at 7:22 A.M. The pair of Prairie Falcons are still in the park and early in the morning are usually seen near Cave Rock. Last winter we had only one Prairie Falcon winter in the park. [cobirds] Sedgwick and Phillips counties (Wood Thrush)
Myself, Lisa Edwards, John Drummond, and Brandon Percival started out the today successfully finding the Common Ground-Dove at the previously described location. Next we headed south to Holyoke. At the small fishing pond east of town we found a male Rusty Blackbird in the ditch along the pond. Next we headed to the cemetery where we relocated the female Hooded Warbler. No crossbills were found as we searched the pine trees in town. Our next stop was Haxton. At the sewer ponds we found Snow, Cackling and Greater White-fronted Geese along with many mallards and Canvasback and Common Goldeneye. The small park in town produced even more birds. A Merlin was the first bird we found. Then on the south edge of the park we found a Golden-crowned Kinglet, a Northern Parula, and a Wood Thrush! We will be birding our way back to the front range for the rest of the day and will report if more rarities are found. [cobirds] Harris's Sparrow- CCSP, Arapahoe Co.
Had a 1st-winter Harris’s Sparrow today around 1pm on the Lake Loop at Cherry Creek State Park, at the north end of the rowing/boat building. Also a very cooperative dark intermediate (“Western”) adult Red-tailed Hawk (chocolate brown color) at the same locationgorgeous bird, preoccupied with some poor critter on the ground. Many Bonaparte’s Gulls on the reservoir, along with lots of Western Grebes. [cobirds] Re-found Prothonotary Warbler / Larimer Co.
CObirders, Nick Komar and others re-found the Prothonotary Warbler at 2:10 pm today. It has moved since yesterday and is now located on the east side of Dixon Reservoir. Nick identified the bird as a first-year female. Thanks Nick, it was likely tough to find in the wind, good work. Check previous message for directions to Dixon. Happy birding, Bruce Baker Ft. [cobirds] Lost Glove at Common Ground Dove location
We saw the Ground dove at the reported location about 1 PM Friday. In the area was a very nice black Thinsulate glove. If it is yours we will try to get it to you. [cobirds] Cedar Waxwing,Jefferson County
Hi all, There have been anywhere from 22-30 Cedar Waxwings at the corner/intersection of S. Sheridan and Sunset for the last few days. They hang out in the NW corner at this intersection. There is a long row of Juniper trees at this NW area of the intersection. I have only seen the birds from about 3:30 pm on, feeding with American Robins. I keep looking for a Bohemian Waxwing but to no avail. It is best to park your car on Sunset on the side of the road, and park it away from traffic, for safety. I know the birds are not unusual, but very pretty. [cobirds] NE Colorado 11/18 -- photos and Thanks
I've downloaded photos of a few of the more unusual birds that Lisa, John, Nick, and I saw today. They can be seen at http://www.flickr.com/photos/brandonsbirdphotos/ I want to THANK Joe Roller, Forrest Luke, Doug Kibbe, and Jeff Dawson who were looking at the Common Ground-Dove, when we arrived this morning. The four of us got to see the bird, while we were still in the vehicle as we arrived! Another example of how Colorado birders are extremely helpful in helping each other see the bird! Also, a big thanks to Lisa Edwards for asking me to come on this trip today, a very fun day in Northeastern Colorado for sure -- of course, if we had only seen the Common Ground-Dove, it would have still be a good day. Though when you add other things like Wood Thrush, Northern Parula, Hooded Warbler, Rusty Blackbird, I'd say it was a great day! Also, It is always fun to run into birders who I've known for years, and don't see very often. It was great to see the Bill and Inez Prather at Jumbo Reservoir and Forrest Luke today, and everyone else of course! [cobirds] Worm-eating Warbler-not today but Eastern Bluebirds were back near the Canon City Riverwalk
I ran into Evergreen birders Scott Dieni and Stephanie Jones at the Canon City Riverwalk but we did not refind the Worm-eating Warbler. We did enjoy a flock of 25-30 Cedar Waxwings and several Eastern Bluebirds that I had reported on last week but not seen for a few days. I have uploaded photos of the juvenile Yellow-bellied Sapsucker I found at Centennial Park and reported on yesterday onto my Birds and Naturehttp://BirdsAndNature.blogspot.comblog. I will also get some photos soon of a flock of Bushtits that has been around the Riverwalk recently.
