AW: Access Cocoon ESQL connection pool in JavaBean

2002-11-28 Thread Kirchhoff, Lars
thanks Paul, but there is an even easier and well documented method
for this. I just found it in the developer section:

   http://xml.apache.org/cocoon/developing/datasources.html

I was just looking in the wrong docs to find the answer...

ciao Lars

Hello,
I have heard from OSWorkflow, do you know if it's easy to adapt it for
cocoon? Because we use xsl stylesheets and other cocoon functions, but
OSWorkflow is just a workflow management concept using java and a web

Session-objects in Cocoon using servlets and jsp

2002-11-28 Thread Torsten Reiners
Hi,

we have a major problem and do not know if there is a simple solution.
Hope that
somebody has an idea. The scenario is as follows:

we realized a login as well as some other things using jsp and servlets.
The jsp are read by th jsp-reader

Furthermore, we have an session-object that is used by the jsps and cocoon
to communicate with each other. Using just jsp and cocoon it is working well,
i.e., the session object can be used from both places (coccoon,jsp with
same session id).

We need to use a servlet to control some processes (i.e., jsp) and,
therefore,have to run the servlet in the same context as the jsp or cocoon.
Currently, the servlet is having it's own session object with its own session id and,
therefore,
the cocoon-process can not communicate with the servlet. Also, the jsps
get the session-object and its id from the servlet and we can not use the
seession-object anymore for the communication.

Is there any way of running the servlet in the same context as cocoon/jsp?
Do I have to declare the servlet in a special way in web.xml or
sitemap.xmap?

I am not sure if the scenario is understandable. Please let me know if you
need more information about the configuration (BTW, we use cocoon 2.0.3).

Thanks,

Torsten

Looking for help in the upcomming release

2002-11-28 Thread Carsten Ziegeler
The Cocoon Project is working very hard to release 2.0.4 by Wednesday,
December 4.

To meet this goal -- which clearly will benefit all users -- we need
some *specific* QA (quality assurance) input from the user community.

To help, here's what you need to do:

1. Update your local CVS repository to the *latest* 2.0.4 branch
   version from CVS.

2.  ./build.[sh|bat] clean

3. ./build.[sh\bat] -Dinclude.webapp.libs=true webapp  (or webapp-local)

4. Assure that you use the same JDK for running Cocoon that you also
   used for building.

5. Test *all* samples. Hit each and every sample page from links
beginning at http://127.0.0.1:8080/cocoon/samples/

6. Report back here on your findings, good or bad.

7. Make sure you describe your test environment: Platform and JVM,
including version numbers.

8. If you find problems, be specific about the problem description: what
   page, what error, etc.

9. If you can provide a patch/info to fix the problem, even better.

What we do *not* need:
Please do not submit requests for XYZ features, dreams, etc. Please save
these ideas for future versions.

Thanks.

The Cocoon Team

sitemap parameter

2002-11-28 Thread Oskar Casquero

Hello,

I want to do sitemap parameter processing in an
action. The action logic (act method) is the following:
1) If the parameter doesn't exist the action
creates it with the default value and returns an empty Map object. The created
parameter must be available for subsequent calls to the action.
2) If the parameter exists, depending on its value,
the action return an an empty Map object or null.

I've tried creating the parameter with
setParameter() method of avalon's Parameters class, but it doesn't work. Does
anyone know how to solve this problem? Perhaps I must return the value in the
Map object, but would it be available for subsequent calls to the action? In
this case, how can I test its value in the action?

Hi Carlos,

have a look into the log files. I guess you will find hints, that the
path to the image is resolved not in the way you want it. If this is
true, the base path is missing I don't want to tell something wrong,
because I don't know exactly, but I think in Cocoon you can only work
with absolute paths.

Re: Problem integrating cocoon

2002-11-28 Thread Cedric Picard
Title: Re: Problem integrating cocoon

Hi there,

My ClassNotFoundException problem is now fixed, surprisingly enough, restarting jboss did the trick :-)

However, the problem with stylesheets (*.css) and images is causing me some concern. All jsp pages use a stylesheet (stylesheets/kainos_styles.css) as well as images (images/*) which are not being picked up since integrating with cocoon.

Would cocoon automatically pick up files from the stylesheets folder by any (lack of) chance? If so, is there any way of preventing this from happening?

There's no reason why you should not use the latest released versions:

JDK 1.4.1_01
Tomcat 4.1.12
Cocoon 2.0.3

However, if you're just experimenting and looking around, I see no

Re: Parsing XML from SQL

2002-11-28 Thread Jeremy Quinn

On Thursday, Nov 28, 2002, at 06:49 Europe/London, Gabriele Domenichini
wrote:

Your problem is not simple. If I've understood you have resources

something.jpg | somewhere/somethingelse.mov | resourceFound.txt |

There is currently a field that holds a url snippet to the resource, as
your example.
This makes perfect sense for binary assets that are loaded directly by
the browser, we can just embed the asset.

With marked up text, however we do not have this simple ability to
embed using the browser (unless we use iframe or something like that !).

I am looking at the possibility of storing the xml markup in an SQL
field, but it would have to be parsed before it was useful.

Well if this is the point, I think the best way to act is to make some
xslt transformation after the sql transformation.

Yes, I can invoke C/XInclude to do the job, but wanted to find a less
clumsy way of handling it, other wise all 'resources' will have to have
C/XInclude in their pipeline regardless of whether it is needed or not,
as you cannot tell in advance what type a particular resource will be.

I don't have experiences about parsing text but I think the text
generator do such a thing.

A Generator is no good, we are past the Generation stage by the time we
get the output of the SQL Query.

I used the Generation step to aggregate the page framework, SQL
'Macros', Site menus etc.

Anyhow I believe the TextGenerator is for parsing non-XML languages
into XML.

If you have to make estraction and elaboration before aggregation I
would use cinclude instead xinclude. The main difference between the
is the two is the possibility of cinclude to invoke a specific
pipeline (so a transformation) as source with the protocol "cocoon:/".
I find this very powerfull even if a little proprietary ;-)

We don't need internal pipelines for this . I have moved to avoid
CIncluding internal pipelines since I found Caching does not work
properly with them in 2.1

I agree with the orientation of avoiding esql where possible, and I
think that here it doesn't help a lot
Sorry if I'm not specific but I should know the project and even so it
would take me time. I hope to have been useful somehow

well, thanks for your response

Re: Problem integrating cocoon

2002-11-28 Thread Cedric Picard
Title: Re: Problem integrating cocoon

Hi there,

I eventually managed to find the root cause of my problem. Basically, cocoon.xconf needed to be updated in the following way:

As the parameter "compiler" was not defined.

However, I now run into a different error:

org.apache.cocoon.ProcessingException: Error compiling sitemap: java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError: org/apache/cocoon/sitemap/AbstractSitemap

Although cocoon-2.0.3.jar is deployed in jboss/lib/ext and definitely contains the AbstractSitemap class.

Any ideas?

XMLForm and Table output

2002-11-28 Thread Kirchhoff, Lars
Hi,

it's me again and I hope I'm still getting answers and not starting to
bother you all
with all my questions.
I've tried to create an application which simple should get some user data
from a
database, by simply enter the name. So my first form is just a text field
where the name
can be inserted. If the name is found all data will be shown. so far so
good. But now
I would like to built something more. Because I do not look at the exact
name in the
database it could be possible to get more then one entry. I now want to
create a page,
where all possible names are shown and some more additional information
about them.
So what I would like to have should be looking like this:
  --
  | name   | address   | city | zip|
  --
  | name1  | address1  | city1| zip1   |
  | name2  | address2  | city2| zip2   |
  | name3  | address3  | city3| zip3   |
  | ...| ...   | ...  | ...|

where the user has the possibility to click on the a name to get the full
detail.
So what I thought is to write a method which get me the data from the
database and
put this in a DOM Nodes. I thought this would enable me to use them in the

statement, but unfortunately it didn't worked out so far.

Here is the code I used to create the DOM Nodes:

---
   //
   // Use DOM nodes to store values
   //
   DOMImplementation impl;

   try {
DocumentBuilderFactory factory =
DocumentBuilderFactory.newInstance();
factory.setNamespaceAware( false );
factory.setValidating( false );
DocumentBuilder builder = factory.newDocumentBuilder();
impl = builder.getDOMImplementation();
   }
   catch ( Exception e ) {
throw new RuntimeException( "Failed to initialize DOM factory. Root
cause: \n" + e );
   }

   //
   // Use DOM nodes to store values
   //
Document doc= impl.createDocument( null, "Users", null );
Node root   = doc.getDocumentElement();
Node custname   = null;
Node address= null;
Node zip= null;
Node city   = null;
Node user   = null;
Text text;

try {
Class.forName( "org.postgresql.Driver" );
Connection  con =
DriverManager.getConnection( DB_URL, DB_USER, DB_PASS );
Statement   stmt= con.createStatement();
String update = "select custname, busname,
address, city, state, zip, pobox, pocode from customer where custname like
'%" + name + "%'";
ResultSet   rs  = stmt.executeQuery( update
);

while ( rs.next() ) {
user= doc.createElement( "user" );
root.appendChild( user );

custname= doc.createElement( "custname" );

text= doc.createTextNode( rs.getString(
"custname" ) );
custname.appendChild( text );
user.appendChild( custname );

address = doc.createElement( "address" );

text= doc.createTextNode( rs.getString(
"address" ) );
address.appendChild( text );
user.appendChild( address );

zip = doc.createElement( "zip" );

text= doc.createTextNode( rs.getString( "zip" )
);
zip.appendChild( text );
user.appendChild( zip );

city= doc.createElement( "city" );

text= doc.createTextNode( rs.getString( "city" )
);
city.appendChild( text );
user.appendChild( city );

system = root;
}
}
catch( Exception e ) { }

---

I expected to create the following structure with it:

So what I'm now wondering is, if I'm

dispatch an input stream to many targets in sitemap

2002-11-28 Thread Ronan Courtay
Hello,
our whish is to integrate legacy servlets into cocoon processes. This worked
fine until we faced to the following need : how to dispatch a servlet output to
many targets with cocoon ?

More precisely, we want a client request to be sent to a legacy servlet, which
XML output is returned to client as HTML, AND automatically sent to an
administrator as PDF and/or XML stream via an e-mail (or at least, save PDF
and/or XML stream locally then warn administrator via an e-mail).

I found no way to do this in cocoon, after hours of net surfing. But I am a
cocoon newbie thus maybe I missed something obvious :-)

I use Cocoon 2.0.3, Tomcat 4.0 and JDK 1.3.1.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Ronan

esql and javascript in xsp

2002-11-28 Thread Johannes . Becker
Hi,

I' having problems with JavaScript
functions in XSP-Pages. This is part of my
funnction:

function
populate_service_dropdown(report_id)
{
report_id =

document.reportFrm.report_id.options[document.reportFrm.report_id.selectedIndex].id;
i=0;

oracle.jdbc.driver.OracleDriver
jdbc:oracle:thin:@XX::X
X
XX

SELECT description, service_id
FROM report_services
WHERE report_id = '16' AND
active_ind = 'Y'
ORDER BY display_order

I want the passed parameter (report_id) put
in the select-statement like this:
WHERE id = report_id
I was told it would work something like
this:
WHERE id
= report_id.
But this didnt't help.
Do I have to store the passed parameter
first in a variable?
What should I do?

Thanks
Jonny

One option would be of course to use the database actions in conjunction
with XMLForms. This way you wouldn't have to deal with SQL and JDBC
yourself.

The other option is to look at them and see how they obtain the connection
from the component manager.

LDAP, JMS, SOAP

2002-11-28 Thread Rano, Didier

Hello,

I'm a new cocoon user, and I'm not sure that cocoon could be solve my problem.

* A user sends a request in using SOAP. With a web services, Cocoon executes a
pipeline. At the end of the pipeline, the user receives a SOAP response

* In the pipeline, I need to get data from a LDAP server

* In the pipeline, I need to send data with JMS, and wait response from JMS

* In the pipeline, I need to execute several sub-pipeline in parallel, and wait
response from all sub-pipelines.

Thank you for your answer
