AW: Where to place global parameters..?

2002-01-31 Thread Jorn Heid

I don't know about a Cocoon specific solution but there are many
possibilities to do this:

System.getProperty()
Static class
Application attributes (s. Servlet documentation)

Betreff: Where to place global parameters..?

Hi,

the subject may not be accurate. I'm using Cocoon in an EJB environment, and
I have to use some parameters, like JNDI settings from most of my own
Transformers, Selectors, Actions, and so. Is there any global space, where I
could propagate the JNDI settings _once_, and reach from any kind of Cocoon
class easily? (I said once, cause I dont like the solution of providing it
as a parameter in the sitemap at each Transformer, Action, etc..)

thanks much,
Christopher

AW: Cocoon on a read-only medium

2002-01-21 Thread Jorn Heid

I thought about using Jetty for that. It's free and it's possible to use it
as a read only server.
Creating a exe (autostart) should be quite easy with JEXE.
As it's all Java (except that autostart exe for Windows) it should be very
easy to distribute.

Don't know - I do not distribute and I'm not a lawyer. Assuming that all
software included either apache-style license, or Sun's JDK license
(Binary Code License Agreement), or Resin license (free for
non-commercial use), I'm quite sure that there is no reason to have a
license issue unless you sell these CDs.

Here is excerpt from Sun's license:
---
2. License to Distribute Software. Subject to the terms and conditions
of
this Agreement, including, but not limited to Section 4 (Java (TM)
Technology Restrictions) of these Supplemental Terms, Sun grants you a
non-exclusive, non-transferable, limited license to reproduce and
distribute the Software in binary code form only, provided that (i) you
distribute the Software complete and unmodified and only bundled as part
of, and for the sole purpose of running, your Programs, (ii) the
Programs
add significant and primary functionality to the Software, (iii) you do
not
distribute additional software intended to replace any component(s) of
the
Software, (iv) you do not remove or alter any proprietary legends or
notices contained in the Software, (v) you only distribute the Software
subject to a license agreement that protects Sun's interests consistent
with the terms contained in this Agreement, and (vi) you agree to defend
and indemnify Sun and its licensors from and against any damages, costs,
liabilities, settlement amounts and/or expenses (including attorneys'

AW: Dummy proof XML on-line editing

2001-12-21 Thread Jorn Heid

Something about that:

There are two possibilities for such an editor:
1. Use DHTML. This isn't cross-platform but it works (look for a demo of it
in the developer mailinglist from Stefano Mazzocchi) for ie now.
2. Write your own Java application. I have written an XML editor as an
applet (so, it's integrated with the browser) which is like XML Spy (based
on XML schema, adding < shows context sensitive possible elements and so
on). It's based on Swing. You can use a styled editor if you want to some
kind of WYSIWYG. You can also write an html editor with swing but it's very
simple and not nearly WYSIWYG.

>From my point of view, WYSIWYG is just an illusion with HTML. The pages
differ from browser to browser, from version to version, from platform to
platform.

That's not possible of course. HTML textareas don't support
formatting. The formatting will have to be addressed by HTML tags, unless
the textarea is replaced with an Applet or a Java Web Start Application,
like the demo rtf editor

>That (web)application is a Java application or a form web?

It's a true Java Application! It doesn't run in a broiwser. Check out the
Sun website, install the SDK and run the demos. There's a nice RTF editor
you might like!!

WG: Session object has new ID each time

2001-11-25 Thread Jorn Heid

Sorry, wrong char (happens on laptops sometimes).

I've been using sessions with url encoding with all versions of C2.
This works (Resin).

I think you can set the preferences of your browser to ask for the cookie
acceptance.
Pehaps that helps you.

Nope, not using it through the URL, but it's the same id... And cookies
do appear to be enabled... I even tried giving explicit permission to my
domain just in case.

Is there any way that the session could be invalidated in the code,
causing the session to make a new id? Or would that even be a
possibility? I'm just trying to think of ways that this could be a bug
in my code instead of the Cocoon code.

Has anybody else used Cocoon's session object in v2, rc2? And what have
your experiences with it been?

With ;jsessionid=something?
If so, sounds like a bug.
If not, do you have cookies enabled?

If not, all works correctly and you have to read about sessions in the

My environment is Cocoon 2, rc2, running on Tomcat 4/Windows XP. I have
the following code in my transformer:

public void setup(org.apache.cocoon.environment.SourceResolver resolver,
java.util.Map objectModel, java.lang.String src, Parameters par) {
request = (Request) objectModel.get(Constants.REQUEST_OBJECT);
...

Each time I refresh the page, request.getSession().getId() has a new
value! How could this be? I've had this work before... I tried
downloading Tomcat 3.3, and get the same result. I suspect that it's
rc2? This never used to happen to me before...

If anybody has any information, I'd greatly appreciate it. I'm coming up
on a session management deadline and this is NOT looking good.

AW: Aggregate and root elements

I think it's:

strip-root="true"

not 'stripRootElement'.

You can look into the sitemap.xsl. There, you can find all

You are right this could be a solution, anyway there is a
"stripRootElement" in the map:aggregate, as is visible in this excerpt from
the cocoon log :

DEBUG (2001-10-20) 15:21.08:940 [cocoon ]

(/cocoon/calcio/story105.source) Thread-18/ContentAggregator:
ContentAggregator: part uri='cocoon:/calcio.nav' element='' ns=''
stripRootElement='' prefix=''

I think it's not been documented yet, and unfortunately I have not found it
in the source :(( I tried stripRootElement="yes", stripRootElement="true"
etc ... but nothing seem to work.

Ciao e grazie

AW: Action vs. Request

Hi,

this isn't the problem.

In the Action I try to set XMLString as seen. But when I try to read it in
the XSP with the following statement it's empty (I get
"EGAL" as result):

When I call the pipeline in my Browser like:

http://localhost:8080/cocoon/XMLDB_EVAL/XMLTest.html?TestString=ABCDEFG

The ABCDEFG apperars in the XSP Site (in the response in the Web-Browser)
but the System.out.println only prints "null".

So it seems there are different independent request objects.

Any other hint?

XIncludeTranformer which works for me - just email me.

Hello cocoon-users,

I'm download last dev shapshot from C2 site
(xml-cocoon2_20010831101539.tar.gz) and install it on my system
(Resin-2.0.1/jdk1.3/Win98). And I copy my site into new version,
change sitemap to mount my site, and do other changes.
When I try to processing XML file with XInclude expressions, i get

AW: session-invalidator and back-button?

2001-08-16 Thread Jorn Heid

I think it could be archived by setting the expiration-date in the
http-header.

There are some meta-tags you can set in the html.

Hi,
I tryed the web-application demo from cocoon2
where a login and logout can be performed.
But after logout if I press the back button of my browser
I get back into protected area without authorization.
How can this be avoided?

Michael

AW: Problems with C2 beta 2

2001-07-25 Thread Jorn Heid

I think I can remeber such a problem with Resin.
I think it's because of different XML libs. Try to replace those libs from
Jetty with the ones from Cocoon (after making a backup ;).

Hope, this helps.

I checked the archives and there was a reference to a similar problem in
the xalan parser but it was supposedly fixed in November of last year.

I am running jetty 3.1R6 on linux 2.2.18 with Blackdown JDK 1.3

AW: Adding dynamically element

2001-06-10 Thread Jorn Heid

Yes... As XSP is a generator, should I write my own transformer or
aggregator... Give me an answer, please... ;(

The question again:
I want to produce a html from a xml (not XSP) page but depending on the
session object there moght be an additional element. In C1 it worked with
XML->XSP->XSLT->HTML. But how does it (best) work with C2?
XML->Aggreation->XSLT->HTML or XML->MyTransformer->XSLT->HTML?

No, there is no logic in there.

An XSP page is a generator, point. A C2 pipeline has only one generator.
Transformers cannot produce or be transformed into xsp pages. This is not
the
concept.
