rachelmint opened a new issue #11071: GPU memory usage for VGG16 prediction
URL: https://github.com/apache/incubator-mxnet/issues/11071

   Hi,

   I found that image prediction with VGG16 took 770M GPU memory (for 1
image). I felt like mxnet use more memory than caffe in this case. Is that a
normal memory cost?

   ## Description ##
   As title.

   ## Checklist ##
   ### Essentials ###
   Please feel free to remove inapplicable items for your PR.
   - [ ] The PR title starts with [MXNET-$JIRA_ID], where $JIRA_ID refers to
the relevant [JIRA issue](https://issues.apache.org/jira/projects/MXNET/issues)
created (except PRs with tiny changes)
   - [ ] Changes are complete (i.e. I finished coding on this PR)
   - [ ] All changes have test coverage:
   - Unit tests are added for small changes to verify correctness (e.g. adding
a new operator)
   - Nightly tests are added for complicated/long-running ones (e.g. changing
distributed kvstore)
   - Build tests will be added for build configuration changes (e.g. adding a
new build option with NCCL)
   - [ ] Code is well-documented:
   - For user-facing API changes, API doc string has been updated.
   - For new C++ functions in header files, their functionalities and arguments
are documented.
   - For new examples, README.md is added to explain the what the example does,
the source of the dataset, expected performance on test set and reference to
the original paper if applicable
   - Check the API doc at
http://mxnet-ci-doc.s3-accelerate.dualstack.amazonaws.com/PR-$PR_ID/$BUILD_ID/index.html
   - [ ] To the my best knowledge, examples are either not affected by this
change, or have been fixed to be compatible with this change

   ### Changes ###
   - [ ] Feature1, tests, (and when applicable, API doc)
   - [ ] Feature2, tests, (and when applicable, API doc)

   ## Comments ##
   - If this change is a backward incompatible change, why must this change be
made.
   - Interesting edge cases to note here

   Did you rename the Jenkins job to restricted-blabla?

   The error that this slave does not exist is fine. It will automatically be
deployed by auto scaling.

   If the job does not picked up, you probably ran into a security measure that
prevents accessing restricted nodes from unrestricted jobs or Vica versa. Let's
review that on Monday

new build option with NCCL)
   - [ ] Code is well-documented:
   - For user-facing API changes, API doc string has been updated.
   - For new C++ functions in header files, their functionalities and arguments
are documented.

aaronmarkham opened a new pull request #11066: migrating docs build and publish
job to secure nodes
URL: https://github.com/apache/incubator-mxnet/pull/11066

   ## Description ##
   Migrating docs build to secure/restricted jenkins nodes.
   - [x] Created a new jenkins job called
[restricted-website-publish](http://jenkins.mxnet-ci.amazon-ml.com/job/restricted-website-publish/)
   - [x] Updated nodes in Jenkinsfile `node('restricted-mxnetlinux-cpu')`
   - [x] Updated Jenkinsfile to call new job `restricted-website-publish`

   ## Comments
   I would assume that the config in the Jenkins job for `Restrict where this
project can be run` would be updated from `mxnetlinux-cpu` to
`restricted-mxnetlinux-cpu`. However, I get an error if I try to do this:
   ```
   There’s no agent/cloud that matches this assignment. Did you mean
‘mxnetlinux-cpu’ instead of ‘restricted-mxnetlinux-cpu’?
   ```
   @marcoabreu - what are your thoughts on this?

   I think pytorch is also suffering from similar problems:
https://github.com/pytorch/pytorch/issues/973

   I think we can use ForkingPickler.register(recordio.MXRecordIO,
reopen_recordio) to force reload record files when workers are forked.

lanking520 opened a new pull request #11063: [MXNET-386] NDArray Bug fix
URL: https://github.com/apache/incubator-mxnet/pull/11063

   ## Description ##
   Currently, we should not generate the underscore (unsupported) API for
Scala. This is a fix on this.
   @nswamy @yzhliu

   ## Checklist ##
   ### Essentials ###
   Please feel free to remove inapplicable items for your PR.
   - [ ] The PR title starts with [MXNET-$JIRA_ID], where $JIRA_ID refers to
the relevant [JIRA issue](https://issues.apache.org/jira/projects/MXNET/issues)
created (except PRs with tiny changes)
   - [ ] Changes are complete (i.e. I finished coding on this PR)
   - [ ] All changes have test coverage:
   - Unit tests are added for small changes to verify correctness (e.g. adding
a new operator)
   - Nightly tests are added for complicated/long-running ones (e.g. changing
distributed kvstore)
   - Build tests will be added for build configuration changes (e.g. adding a
new build option with NCCL)
   - [ ] Code is well-documented:
   - For user-facing API changes, API doc string has been updated.
   - For new C++ functions in header files, their functionalities and arguments
are documented.
   - For new examples, README.md is added to explain the what the example does,
the source of the dataset, expected performance on test set and reference to
the original paper if applicable
   - Check the API doc at
http://mxnet-ci-doc.s3-accelerate.dualstack.amazonaws.com/PR-$PR_ID/$BUILD_ID/index.html
   - [ ] To the my best knowledge, examples are either not affected by this
change, or have been fixed to be compatible with this change

   I think it's a good these tests failed - it means that we actually have some
issues and are being inconsistent. That's a great point to start from.

   I'd appreciate it if you could make the necessary changes in order to make
all parts consistent.

   your input size is too large for Dense. Very few systems can actually
allocate a single piece of memory of 85GB. There is no reason to test the error
in https://github.com/apache/incubator-mxnet/issues/10807. No system can handle
it.

   the test can't really cover the cases we want. it didn't detect the bug
before @ashokei disabled full convention.
   you can change its stride to (3, 3) or something to make sure `i_h +pad_top
+ pad_bottom - k_h` can't be divided by `stride_h `.

   This could break existing code. Sometimes the resulting array of indices is
subject to another operation. Then the result can become different if the dtype
of the index array changes. Or it can make an error as some opertions can be
applied to only floating point arrays.
   ```python
   nd.topk(nd.arange(10), k=2).mean()
   ```
   Currently the result is `[8.5]`, but the result is `[8]` if the dtype is
integer.
   ```python
   nd.linalg.gemm2(nd.topk(x, k=2), y)
   ```
   Currently this is allowed, but it'll cause an error if the dtype changes to
integer.

   `multinomial` has a similar but opposite issue. It returns an index array of
integer type, but it would be convenient to have floating point array sometimes
(PR #10970). I think that it would be better if we can make `multinomial` and
`topk` consistent.

   I have solved this problem. The default CUDA_ARCH doesn't contain the TX2 's
CUDA_ARCH. So we need to add "CUDA_ARCH = -gencode arch=compute_62,code=sm_62"
to make/config.mk manually.

   Which engine did you use for execution? GPU or CPU (with MKLDNN)? I'm
observing issues with ~10% accuracy while running AlexNet with MKLDNN engine.
