Re: gmail.com problems and this list
Wolfgang S. Rupprecht wrote: Marco Barreno [EMAIL PROTECTED] writes: Can someone with admin access to the list machine send me the SMTP logs for one of the duplicated messages? I'm working in the Gmail group at Google for the summer and I can have someone try to diagnose the problem from this end. The full SMTP logs would be helpful. I don't have access there, but I can fill in part of the puzzle. At least one of the opemoko machines at 88.198.124.203 opens an smtp connection back to the sending domain to verify the sender address of any incoming message. The smtp-back machine has messed up DNS. The claimed rDNS for that IP is openmoko.org but the forward DNS check for that openmoko.org doesn't list 88.198.124.203 as a valid address. If the sending machine is checking for spammers claiming a bunk DNS name will reject 88.198.124.203's SMTP verify. The opemmoko machine will then interpret that failed smtp verify attempt as the verified address not existing and will decline the initial incoming transfer. In short, folks really need to check the forward and backward DNS and make sure it is consistent, especially if that machine tries open an outgoing SMTP connection (such as the attempted verification). I haven't received any email from these mailing lists since around 10:00 CEST on July 10. The web archives, however, show several messages since that time. What about receiving an invoice for Neo?
Hi, I work for a company that want to purchase 3 handsets (including 2 adv boxes) but in the registration form there's no place for our tax ID number. Does anybody know how can we receive an invoice for these phones, so we can exclude costs from our tax? I'm responsible for ordering phones but I cannot do it until I know how to receive invoices. Does anybody know how can we receive an invoice for these phones, so we can exclude costs from our tax? I guess since they send from the US to the EU, there is no VAT charged by the US tax authorities you could ask to get back. It is not the point to get VAT back but to indicate what these devices came from. I will pay with company's money so it should be endicated where did this money go and what for. And that what the invoice is for. If they won't write our tax id number on it, the invoice will be invalid. Ah I see. But what I recommend is to check if that is also required for imports from the US or if this rule is for local business only (within one country). I have never been asked to specify my VAT ID for any purchase (unless I want to have taxfree intra-community delivery). And there is always the address of the origin written on the invoice - which is the US. So you have a proof where it came from. Your tax id written on the invoice wouldn't help IMHO. For German Taxation rules they just must write their name, the country of origin and the money amount and what they did deliver 1 unit OpenMoko. But not my tax ID - because I as the receiver don't necessarily have one. And for your import you will also get a separate receipt for any import duties you will have to pay. They must only write my VAT ID if they would be shipping from *within* the EU *and* doing an intracommunity tax free delivery. But they ship from the US into the EU so IMHO this rule does not apply. ___ OpenMoko community mailing list community@lists.openmoko.org http://lists.openmoko.org/mailman/listinfo/community

Re: Charging the NEO1973
Tim According to the wiki, charging the battery is always done through the USB socket. Does that mean that the NEO is only chargable from a computer I have tried charging from other methods (generic cigarette-lighter to mini usb, solar cell, crank charger) and none of them currently work for fast charging. They may work for the slow charge, but the slow charge is too slow to be useful. The wiki says the neo could do a fast charging from these non-host-computer usb ports by trying to pull 500mA when the host does not respond for 30 seconds, but as of about a week ago, the development image does not implement this trick. Re: Charging the NEO1973
I wouldn't bother cutting your cable. Right now, the neo will only switch to 500mA charging when it is successfully enumerated as a high-power device. The only way you'll get it to fast charge from a power-only source, will be to change the software to something like you mentioned. It shouldn't need to take 30 seconds though. Once the neo attempts enumeration (by pulling up on D+ with a 1k resistor), the host should issue a usb reset (single-ended zero) within 500ms. If that doesn't happen, there is no host. But I share your concern that well-tested and intuitive software will be the most important thing to a new end-user (even though they may not think, I want well-tested and intuitive apps.). It will be difficult for the community to write for the new hardware without access to it. Maybe the wizards in the core team will make the first whiz-bang apps for the new hardware. My hope is that the slower processor in SH1 will encourage (or force ;-) the community to write efficient and simple code and not encourage them to just let it slide until the newer/faster processor is available. Thanks Andreas! Actually, a while after making this post i thought i recalled seeing gmail problems in one of the posts, found and read thru that thread and decided that it must be a gmail problem... I have to agree with Ian. I'd probably add usb wireless and just use it as a Myth remote. And if i can't find anything to do with it, i might just keep it around as a spare board in case i manage to break something or something like that. Maybe even board only upgrades for a while. I mean that lcd is very very good and i don't see a reason not to let people get the most out of it, and as the lcd is probably the most expensive part they could sell the board at a higher markup and get a larger profit, yet we'd still end up paying less. For those interested, here follows a quick rough translation. Free software for your hacked smartphone The thing which phone vendors and software developers try to avoid with simlock and serial numbers, is specifically being promoted by OpenMoko: hack your own phone. OpenMoko is an open source group that develops free software for mobile devices. The first hardware that runs on OpenMoko is now available: a phone with good-looking rounded corners, with GPS receiver, GSM/GPRS support and... NO buttons. The Neo1973 does have a touch-interface, and therefore many people declare the device to be an iPhone-killer. However, that seems a bit premature. Most smartphones run on Symbian, Windows Mobile, or UIQ. The iPhone added OS X to that. OpenMoko is a mobile platform which runs on a Linux kernel. In itself that is nothing special, check out this list http://www.linuxdevices.com/articles/AT9423084269.html. But it is pleasant that all available software is free [as in beer --Ed.], and that you already can get a simlock-free smartphone for 300 dollars which works on the OpenMoko platform. There is an application available for OpenMoko that lets you receive free push e-mail http://www.funambol.com/, just like the Blackberry offers. Navigation software should not be a problem either: the TomTom devices that you see on the highway also run on a Linux system. The orange-black Neo1973 looks cool with its round forms and 2.8 inch color screen. However, it doesn't hurt to wait for the next hardware update, when the Neo1973 is equipped with a wifi-receiver and motion sensors. Then you can - just as on the iPhone - flip the screen automatically when you move the phone. This new version will cost 450 dollars, and is available from October.
