But lets leave this history stuff for now. > 4) On wiki: http://wiki.openmoko.org/wiki/Distributions > In the Names of Distibutions you don't use number of version And what is the question? Because i do not know if you think it is good or bad? Anyway, I'll try to explain according to my knowledge. First of all there is no section called "Names of Distributions" on this wiki page, so please be precise. I guess you are talking about "Overview" section? If you are talking about "Hardware/Works" boxes in "Overview" section, than I have to admit I didn't know that these templates are used anywhere else besides "Community Updates". Now since I know that, it changes my point of view. Those "Hardware/Works" boxes can't be used to keep history anymore. But they fit nicely to reduce amount of work for wiki editors (like us). What I do not like, is their naming schemes. Now their names suggests that these boxes shows, what software can run under some distro. Additionally you need to keep naming scheme consistent with other templates (do not use spaces). IMHO it need to be changed to reflect their purpose. Example: Template:Works on Android -> Template:AndroidSupportedHardware Template:Works_on_Debian -> Template:DebianSupportedHardware Template:Works on Gentoo -> Template:GentooSupportedHardware ... Do you mind if I ask you to rename these templates according to these examples? In order to help you within this work, I will add these templates to http://wiki.openmoko.org/wiki/Templates page, as they are not listed there. Oops, I forgot to add Template:DistributonBox also, mea culpa. Does everyone agree for this solution? > 5) News can use Distributions box and under him write changes > now is change in DistributonBox and it make this template useful only > for news page I assume you want to make separate Template:DistributonBox for each distro? [CU,Templates] DistributionBox template latest changes
Hi all, Recently wiki editor Kukide, changed DistributionBos template. It was on wiki also, thus i assume i can quote his email to me: > Hi, I change your templates > http://wiki.openmoko.org/wiki/Template:DistributionBox and rewrite on > all back-links. > I make some new templates for this page: > http://wiki.openmoko.org/wiki/Distributions In the future if some > distribution start work on new hardware, it will be easy change in > template for this distribution and it will change on all places in > wiki. :) > > And I thing in the future distributions will work on more hardware and > it will be helpful split information about "other" device. This is a > possible on this page: http://wiki.openmoko.org/wiki/Template:Works > > I hope it will be useful. > > Kukide Today i started to add some entries to Community Updates. One of them was SHR-Testing branch. I have 2 considerations about this: 1) It appeared, that after Kukide's modifications you have to add new sub-template for each new distribution, describing hardware it works on. In my opinion it is a flaw. Kukide kindly made template for SHR and few other distros, but didn't make new one for SHR-Testing. This scenario will repeat for future distributions and generates additional work for wiki editors. 2) It also appeared, that using sub-templates we loose all history of what distro's versions were working on what hardware. Example: if you modify template for lets say QtMoko v123, by adding new hardware (lets consider that QtMoko V123 works on PS3) it will appear in all previous Community Updates, that all previous versions of QtMoko starting from V1, V2,... also are working on PS3... which is not true. This is a flaw also IMHO. Conclusions: I think we should revert these changes and use old DistributionBox template. Of course keeping in mind freedom in all aspects I am asking all of you, what is your opinion (especially you Kukide) before reverting those changes. -- Patryk "LeadMan" Benderz Linux Registered User #377521 () ascii ribbon campaign - against html e-mail /\ www.asciiribbon.org - against proprietary attachments Email secured by Check Point ___ Openmoko community mailing list community@lists.openmoko.org http://lists.openmoko.org/mailman/listinfo/community

Re: Om2009
I use OM2009T5, with OWrt state files and few SHR libraries. Why OM2009? Simply because it is much more stable than SHR-U. Now someone will start yelling "...but it is called unstable...". Fine, but SHR means "STABLE hybrid release" in first place. So i ask, where is this stability? I hate to say this, but in circumstances you are having new full time job, it might be worth to abandon OM2009. What to do on SHR? Definitely take care of _real_ testing branch which would be more stable. Ubuntu with ~30 000 packages doesn't inspire me to try even a This is untrue my friend, first of all it would be not 30 000 but 27 000. But that is not true either because ~25100 of these packages are backported from Debian. Thus the remeining ~1900 packages belong to Ubuntu. Regardless of the above, we should not compare Ubuntu/Debian repositories with opkg.org, simply because opkg is not repository. > music player without comments from others and a screenshot. > > METHODS > [...cut] Everything in METHODS and below can be obtained with already existing wiki. I'll try to excuse myself a little: Generally you are right and i intend to change my behaviour, but as Rui wrote in another post in this thread, using another email account is not convenient for me, simply because this is not my corporate email :). I have to use it as corporate email temporarily because our mail service was moved to exchange2007. I use Evolution, which does not support RPC over HTTP yet. So i need to use one account for now. And i simply do not remember to change my signature manually each time i send post here. I was trying to setup different signatures, depending on destination addressee, but AFAIK Evolution can change sign. depending on sender address only. If you can provide some hints on how to do it i would be grateful. P.S. I am really happy that i can use Linux on my box, and several servers in this corporate environment dominated by evil microsoft. P.P.S.My normal signature looks like below. As you see it conforms to signature's rules used on news groups(separator "-- ", 4 lines max, etc...). Until i solve this out, just assume that all my previous and future emails sent to ML have this signature ;) -- Kind Regards, Patryk "LeadMan" Benderz Linux Registered User #377521 () ascii ribbon campaign - against html e-mail /\ www.asciiribbon.org - against proprietary attachments Email secured by Check Point ___ Openmoko community mailing list community@lists.openmoko.org http://lists.openmoko.org/mailman/listinfo/community

Re: [CU] voting required - VOTING RESULTS
Voting results are at end of this post, but first few explanation words about assumptions i mad while counting votes. For those who have voted more than once, I have counted votes from latest post. It was easy to count votes of those who voted clearly and made sure i counted their votes correctly, like Warren Baird. Many thanks to those of you guys! But some of you voted early, and didn't redefined your votes at and of voting, so verify my assumptions, and redefine your votes LAST time if you think i have misinterpreted your posts. 1.Alex Teiche wrote: "I like V1, but there has to be some sort of clear defining line that defines the border between two of them(line, etc). It would also be really great if it had either V3 or V4's table, as that is really nice." So i assumed it has to have white background, some lines dividing tables, and "working hardware" table on right side of template. Templates 7a and 7c fits this description, but you didn't defined which "working hardware" table you like more. Since most of people voted for 7c than for 7a, i assumed you would do so also, thus i counted your vote as: 7c. 2.Mathieu Rochette wrote: "I prefer the first template too. but is it possible to have the third column (hardware/works) for that one ?" Again like above: white background, no word about frame (like/dislike) so i took under consideration versions with frames and without. Now about "working hardware" table. This mail was dated on 25th of July. Wiki history shows that at this moment W/H tables was only on the right side of the template so i assumed you wanted W/H table on the right side. Thus templates 7a,7b,7c,7d fits here. Again, since most of people voted for 7c than for 7a, i assumed you would do so also, thus i counted your vote as: 7c. 3.Jon 'maddog' Hall. Your latest email, dated 2009-07-29 says: "Either 8a or 8b" After scratching top of my head for a while and wondering if you wanted to divide your vote between those two, or wanted me to decide which do you like more, I decided I should be consequent and count your vote as in two points above (similarily as most voted), so i counted your vote as: #8a. 4.Shashank Bharadwaj: you didn't voted explicitly, but you added new version #9 to templates, so i assumed you wanted to vote for this version, so your vote goes to #9. 5.Fabian Schölzel wrote: "May i propose some different layout? Wouldnt it be better, if the 2-columns have the text left and the screenshot/infobox on the right?" Your mail fits perfectly to #9 template made by Shashank Bharadwaj, thus your vote goes to #9. Conclusions: For future (if any) votings i propose to clarify explicit rules before voting, cause it took me over one hour to count votes, consider all non-clear votes cases and write this email :) Example voting plan might look like this: Day[1]:Define proposed templates and make a post on ML. Day[2-7] :Gather remarks, comments and incorporate it to new templates. Day[8-10] :Start voting period, gather votes. Day[11] :Stop voting period. Count votes and announce voting results. Day[12-14]:Implement final changes. VOTING RESULTS: Name Vote Alex Teiche 7c Andrew Stephen 8a Dave Ball8a David Ford 1 David Reyes Samblas Martinez 7c Denis Galvão 7c Fabian Schölzel 9 jeremy jozwik2 Jon 'maddog' Hall8a Juan Alberto Aranda Alvarez 8a Marko Knöbl 1 Mathieu Rochette 7c Nicola Mfb 7d Patryk Benderz 7c Rafael Campos7c Shashank Bharadwaj 9 Warren Baird 8a First three places: 1. 7c with 6 votes 2. 8a with 5 votes 3. 1 and 9 with2 votes So the winner is #7c. Since today is the release date for CU, i am finishing template to be able to use it with today's release of CU. If any complaints, we will change template later to proper one. -- Kind Regards Patryk Benderz IT Specialist Linux Registered User #377521 +48 22 538 6292 ERSTE Securities Polska S.A. ul. > May i propose some different layout? Wouldnt it be better, if the 2-columns Of course! You even may go to [1] and add another layout of your design. It is really quite easy with wiki. Voting is still open, so go ahead! Remember to use {{{Editing}}} tag if you plan longer edition.
