Strange sentence...since FF just took over the number one spot we have to
wait to see what happens, and at the end they already decided on the
outcome.

BTW, we already *know* the outcome, it's told everytime, every year at the
pwn to own contest.

If there are a few devices now, I mid next year there will start to be a lot
more. New motherboards are shipping with USB3 now. It can't be far behind.

I'm hoping this christmas I can pick up a blu ray burner from
newegg...finish off my media player by my tv.

The problem most online publications have is total lack of reader

"There are two changes that Google hopes will quell the discontent of media
outlets. The first one is a change to its “First Click Free” program, which
allows users to visit an article for free, but directs them to a sign-up
page if they browse to another page. For example, if you visited a Wall
Street Journal article from Google News, you’d get the full article for
free, but would have to pay for other articles.

The problem is that many people now abuse this feature to get all of their
WSJ articles for free. The new change will limit you to five pages per day
before you must register, regardless of how you get to the website. Media
outlets can opt into this program if they so desire."

So unless you can buy USB3 hard drives like chicklets, they don't exist?

Motherboards abound online..tigerdirect, newegg...fry's electronics. I saw
a buffalo ext. drive adverted last week. You know very well I didn't say to
run out and replace anything. You mistakenly called something that exists,
vaporware, I corrected you.

I checked the local grocery store, they have yet to have any in the candy
machines up front, so yes, to you USB3 is 'vaporware'.

FW: Well to say it's superior is only half right. It's superior in some
ways. If raw speed is what is needed, USB3 or ESATA is superior. I would
go everyday and twice on sunday for an esata drive on my home network over
FW...but there are situations where FW would be best.

For drives that can hot-swap, no USB, real or vaporware can compare with
FireWire for speed and reliability [eSATA depends on controller and
mobo]. That's important for real-time video and animation. FireWire
allows two-way 'traffic' while USB can't send and receive
simultaneously. I stopped using the USB port on my videocam because the
video was unreliable [because of USB, not my camera] while FW is
flawless as long as the battery is working or it's plugged in.

Where flawless raw speed is required, FireWire is better than USB at any
speed--I have FW800, my camera doesn't. Most users don't need that kind
of smooth reliability, even for games. Sometimes cheap, L.C.D. is just fine.

[CGUYS] tomato or ddwrt?

2009-12-02 Thread mike
Anyone use either one? I'm looking for good QoS management.

Another version? I don't have the space to put something on a pc, so
flashing the router is the way I'm going.

I did google it, there are numerous references to FW being phased out all
over, just no confirmation.

Perhaps Apple will go with the cheaper, faster USB 3 spec in it's lower end
macbooks...who knows?

Some software is sold with the stipulation that you won't compare it
to the competition and if you decide you don't like it you are
forbidden to tell others.

And hard to believe, that not an M$ EULA. It really is possible to be
more evil than M$.

I'm sorry for the misguidance about Firewire. I thought I had read
somewhere that they were phasing it out, can't recall where, and then
was looking for an inexpensive Mac notebook for a friend. The new
MacBooks don't have Firewire but there was a $750 refurb that had it. I
think he got one.

Thanks for clearing that up Betty.

Or because they quite simply will not let you have a phone under
contract without such a penalty being included.

Imagine if all products had to be acquired in a similar manner and
with return or cancellation penalties reaching hundreds of dollars if
said items do not meet expectations or live up to advertising claims?

Probably not in a purely legal sense. It has recently been made
illegal to text and drive here in Virginia. There is a whopping $20
fine for doing so if one is ticketed. I really do not know why the
state legislature even created that new law since the old faithful
"failure to pay full time and attention" law has been on the books for
years and years and carries a far heftier fine.

Ah, now I see! By instituting this new law that is quite specific
to texting, those drivers who are failing to pay attention because
they are texting will be able to avoid the higher fines that will be
meted out for those who are, say, reading a newspaper or watching a
movie. Is this new law and attendant slap-on-the-wrist a sop to the
cell phone industry that lobbied so intensely to keep the testing law
from even getting out of committee?
