Re: [Cooker] anybody else get the nis working?
Ya, I got NIS working with Mandrake 7.0. It sure was a bitch though because they wrote the makefile wrong. You get that "Domain not bound" error when you do not have your NIS database built. You have to type /usr/lib/yp/ypinit -m You then follow the instructions and it will attempt to build your database. Unless yours is different then mine, it gave me two 'Command not found' errors while trying to build the group part. Its because there are two extra @ symbols in the makefile that shouldn't be there. After you remove them it will build correctly. Then I had the problem where the clients knew the server was there and that the password and group data bases existed but it wouldn't let anyone login. After playing with it a bit I found that you have to set merge the shadow with the password to 'true' in the makefile as well. Not sure about the groups tho. You might have to do those too. See the NIS howto for more information. I had to read it like 5 times before I finally understood what it was saying.
[Cooker] fyi: hd.img still doesn't work
using a creative labs geforce (and ls120, which i already verfied that this was the problem by installing a standard 3 1/2" drive) displays the blue screen with a flashing cursor and text. does not show any of the possible hdd drives to install from (or mount points). also using a western digital 7200rpm drive ~20gbs. (already have linux-mdk 7.0 beta (cooker) installed on itworks w/o problems apperantly). whenever a i press a key of the keyboard to cont to next menu, quits with error (the usual "exiting errors"...think they're x11 errors...see prior posts). reason for using hd.img? [Cooker] Upgrade woes
Hi everyone, I've been slowly migrating to a MandrakeCooker-based system for the past few months now (from 6.1) and have had no trouble up until this past week. I decided to update my compiler libraries, and it seems that this has made my computer quite unstable. I've gotten rid of pgcc and installed gcc instead, from the cooker release. I've also installed egcs, hoping this would fix a few problems I've been having, but it hasn't helped. (I also updated binutils and pmake, but I don't think these have any impact on the problems I'm having.) Since I upgraded, programs that I attempt to compile which use glut have started failing to compile properly. When attempting to compile gltron, for instance, I get a long list of errors, all stemming back to the gl-related header files and some ansi-complicancy error. Does anyone have any idea how I could repair this problem? Have I missed something that I should upgrade? A short snippet of the error messages follows. (It seems that the compiler doesn't like the functions which have GL_API in front of their prototypes..??) gcc -c -pedantic -Wall -O2 switchCallbacks.c In file included from /usr/include/GL/glut.h:10, from gltron.h:51, from switchCallbacks.c:1: /usr/include/GL/gl.h:144: syntax error before `OSMesaContext' /usr/include/GL/gl.h:144: parse error before `format' /usr/include/GL/gl.h:145: ANSI C forbids data definition with no type or storage class /usr/include/GL/gl.h:155: syntax error before `void' /usr/include/GL/gl.h:155: ANSI C forbids data definition with no type or storage class /usr/include/GL/gl.h:186: parse error before `GLboolean' /usr/include/GL/gl.h:187: parse error before `GLenum' /usr/include/GL/gl.h:188: ANSI C forbids data definition with no type or storage class /usr/include/GL/gl.h:196: syntax error before `OSMesaContext' /usr/include/GL/gl.h:196: ANSI C forbids data definition with no type or storage class /usr/include/GL/gl.h:213: syntax error before `void' /usr/include/GL/gl.h:213: parse error before `pname' If there's somewhere else I should go to ask about these sorts of things, please tell me so I can avoid spamming everyone with my problems. But this could break other > packages >that depends on it. > - Fix vim so it can read standalone ctags files? I am not sure who broke what. This used to work so either: 1) the standalone ctags package replaced the vim packaged ctags recently 2) vim recently changed it's notion of how tags should be sorted 3) ctags recently changed the way it sorts I think the problem is that 1, 2 or 3 has to be determined before you can figure out which way to best fix it. > AFAIU the documentation, vim ctags is 'exuberant ctags', so it is > normal that > it produce a different tags. The problem with the standalone ctags is in the way it sorts uppercase and lowercase, not the format of the individual tag lines. The vim ctags sorts all of uppercase tags first then the lowercase tags, the standalone ctags sorts the upper and lowercase tags in with each other. If you have both ctags programs and you use it on some source with uppercase identifiers and then compare the two "tags" files it should be obvious what the problem is. > Could you please try and tell me what's wrong/what to do?
