[Cooker] Can I disable unneeded services?
What services might I disable (with drakxservices) to free up some resources (RAM). I figure there are at least some services running that I don't need that I can kill. Get Your Private, Free E-mail from MSN Hotmail at http://www.hotmail.com
Re: [Cooker] Kudzu!
Can I disable Kudzu (with drakxsevices) if I have my hardware configured the way I want and still have everything work after a boot? Is Kudzu needed at each boot to recognize and configure certain hardware devices or is it just mainly for detecting changed/new hardware? I disabled kudzu, and everything still works nice :). Think you just need it to automatically detect changes in hardware configuration. Pepper

Then you can still run it as root whenever you like.

Ok, I'll only reply to the last line. Since I thought the pcmcia support was included in the kernel rpm itself, I assumed it would obsolete the pcmcia-cs-2.2 (AFA I remember, I never saw any pcmcia-cs-2.4). Now, I dont have the machine here, but I think I did an 'rpm -ql kernel | grep cardmgr' and it came back empty. =-= kk1 From: Robert L martin [EMAIL PROTECTED] Reply-To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: Re: [Cooker] First try w/ 2.4.0 Date: Mon, 26 Jun 2000 23:47:00 -0400 text1.html Get Your Private, Free E-mail from MSN Hotmail at http://www.hotmail.com

Well, even if it slows the boot a bit, I let it running since it is born, and today I have been rewarded: It detected my Dell monitor ;-)) Thanks kudzu! Now, I find it very interesting for my laptop where the hardware config changes all the time, but if you have a desktop with a frozen configuration, you certainely can remove it from the boot process. Now, before we say the script is wrong, lets look at what is happening. I have added the uucp user to the lp grooup. If I su - uucp, then go to the /var/spool/fax dir, and execute bin/faxrcvd "recvq/fax00016.tif" "ttyS1" "0122" "" (which is what log/c0122 shows as the command that was run) the fax in question prints fine. [Cooker] Mandrake Updates
Hi, I used Mandrake Update on two machines tonight since it offers several packages to update. The packages I chose to update were: kdesu, kernel, qt, reiserfs-utils and xlockmore. A very long error list of KDE apps appeared and complained of needing libqt.so.1. Also received the error "package reiserfs-utils-3.5.9-4mdk (which is newer than reiserfs-utils-2.2.16_3.5.9) is already installed. After Mandrake Update finished (error messages were the same on two machines), the one machine that got the kernel upgrade won't boot.
