If you type a ¤ in the subject, do you see a ¤ in the window title, or is it a square-like or underscore(_)-like character? It does not show anything in the title bar, just spaces for each ¤ in the subject. I run Evolution in KDE, don't know if that makes a difference. Frederik

[Cooker] update to cooker from 8.1 issues
I tried to upgrade an 8.1 to cooker through net install and ran into issues where it would not recognize the swap file on hda2. I would get an error message that swapon failed at hda2 (or something like that) and could not proceed further. = SI Reasoning [EMAIL PROTECTED] They that can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety deserve neither liberty nor safety. No useful error message on console 3 ? In last resort, you could try using the rescue: % mknod /dev/hda2 % swapon /dev/hda2 It may give better error message...

So sprach »Neuromancer« am 2001-12-29 um 12:15:29 -0500 : I assume that in order to use this, I need iso-8859-15 (or UTF-8, of course). Does this charset lack anything that 8859-1 has? Uhm, it has some subtle differences. The most notably one is, that -15 has the ¤. And some other things changed - but nothing I have ever used. In general, it is iso-8859-1 + ¤ Alexander Skwar -- How to quote: http://learn.to/quote (german) http://quote.6x.to (english) Homepage: http://www.iso-top.de | Jabber: [EMAIL PROTECTED] iso-top.de - Die günstige Art an Linux Distributionen zu kommen Uptime: 13 days 7 hours 54 minutes

I went back into 8.1 and reformatted the swap partition and then remounted. [Cooker] non of the files that where uploaded in last few days made it toprimary servers..
This seems to be an ongoing problem that does not seem to wanna stay fixed. Several files from sunsite vs sunet.se are out of sync, mostly in the contribs. I am hoping this gets fixed soon. Jorg

Re: [Cooker] update to cooker from 8.1 issues
Well, I figured out why this was a problem in the first place. I have been using lvm and had moved the swap partition to a lvm directory. Evidently the net install floppy does not recognize lvm. Now all of my lvm drives are gone (which were /usr /var and /home ... not good) It also means that all of the upgrades went into the non lvm / directory instead of where they should have gone... This is pretty knarled up. Is there a way to recover the lvm groups and partitions? Is there a way to have the updates moved into these directories and everything synced? I hope to recover at least the home directory as there are files there I would like to recover... this is a home system so no backup tape :-{ --- SI Reasoning [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: I went back into 8.1 and reformatted the swap partition and then remounted. [Cooker] trying to upgrade from mandrake 8.1 to cooker destroyed lvm
I have had lvm running on a mandrake 8.1 system. When I upgraded it to cooker (pre 8.2) it did not read my lvm properly (I had /usr, /var and /home pv's in the mandrake vg. Now it still has the lvmconf file mandrake.conf but nothing in /etc/lvmtab.d and /etc/lvmtab is a 1 kb file. Since this is a home system, I have no backups...but it still has info I would like to keep. Is there a way to rebuild this? I am pretty new to lvm. I am running lvm-0.9-3mdk. I have lvm running on a fresh install of cooker on my laptop so I know this version works. I still have /dev/hda3 showing as a lvm partion (8e) mandrake had set them up originally as /dev/mandrake/1 /dev/mandrake/2 /dev/mandrake/3 /etc/fstab /dev/hda1 / reiserfs notail 1 1 none /dev/pts devpts mode=0620 0 0 none /dev/shm tmpfs defaults 0 0 /dev/mandrake/1 /home reiserfs defaults 1 2 /dev/hdg /mnt/cdrom auto user,iocharset=iso8859-1,exec,codepage=850,ro,noauto 0$ /dev/fd0 /mnt/floppy auto user,iocharset=iso8859-1,sync,exec,codepage=850,noaut$none /proc proc defaults 0 0 none /tmp tmpfs defaults 0 0 /dev/mandrake/2 /usr reiserfs defaults 1 2 /dev/mandrake/3 /var reiserfs defaults 1 2 /dev/hda2 swap swap defaults 0 0 /dev/hda5 swap swap defaults 0 0 I had to setup /dev/hda2 as swap to enable the cooker upgrade since it did not recognize /dev/hda5 during the install. It still does not recognize /dev/hda5 = SI Reasoning [EMAIL PROTECTED] They that can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety deserve neither liberty nor safety.
