[Cooker] ntsysv new bug
New version of ntsysv (the one from cooker) doesn't show oki4daemon service in list. On my machine this service is disabled in all runlevels. chkconfig --list and ntsysv from 8.2 show it. I looked into ntsysv source, this change seems to be done intentionally, but I don't understand why.

Yes, little things like in 'man devfsd', the word PERMISSIONS becomes PERIONS and the I is very light (oposite of emphasized). There are two ways to fix it. One is to modify man.config to use less.bin and the other is to modify the /usr/bin/less script to not export the LESSCHARSET environment variable (or change it from "UTF-8", which is what the -4mdk package of less just did). Although the risk of being sued is negligible, the *damage* that would ensue (basically, Mandrake goes under) is extreme enough to make the choice uneconomical. Since the StarWars and Lament screensavers have existed for many years and not been commented on, I think it would be fairly simple and cheap to argue that any copyright (ownership rights of any sort) had not been enforced, so the plaintiffs themselves have created the impression that there was no copyright. The SW screensaver is SW-shaped but does not have SW words in it. It is easy to differentiate between it and StarWars per se. Not so the Matrix one. In Australia, the case is likely a little different from the USA or France. I am explicitly permitted to reverse-engineer, and WB have not produced a Matrix screensaver which will run on my computer. As you can see from my previous post, I;ve started the ball rolling in a gentle, subtle manner so that xmatrix or a close derivative may yet be included in a Mandrake distro with WB's blessing, or at least with an explicit promise of inaction. The page with this email (http://www.warnerbros.com/main/cmp/terms.html) said this: > If you believe that any content appearing on this Site infringes > your copyright rights, we at WB Online want to hear from you. What I'm actually trying to find out is what restrictions exist to writing and/or distributing a free computer screensaver which produces a display reminiscent of the screens shown in the movie `The Matrix', ie the green heiroglyphics with a bright `rain' of more heiroglyphics. If possible, I would like to include a statement to the effect that the screensaver has been written and distributed with the permission of Warner or whoever owns the appropriate artwork, if anyone, with a link to Warner, an official `The Matrix' move website, and details of the restrictions. I hope you can help me out. Cheers; Leon

Any ideas on how to find out > what's crashing it? The first step is to always make sure that you're using the absolute latest reiserfsprogs. 3.x.1b is what's in cooker and that's the latest stable release. There is a 3.x.1c-pre2, but you take your life in your own hands when you use it :-/ Just make sure that you're running the 3.x.1b version of reiserfsprogs with 'rpm -q reiserfsprogs'. Options to reiserfsck: --check consistency checking (default) --fix-fixable fix corruptions which can be fixed w/o --rebuild-tree --rebuild-sb super block checking and rebuilding if needed (require rebuild-tree afterwards) --rebuild-treeforce fsck to rebuild filesystem from scratch (takes a long time) --clean-attributesclean garbage in reserved fields in StatDatas on fs I would suggest that since 'reiserfsck --check' is segfaulting, that you back everything up and try 'reiserfsck --rebuild-tree'. It will probably take several hours, but depends upon factors such as system speed, IO subsystem speed (ie IDE or SCSI or SCSI-UW160). If that doesn't work, try enlisting the help of Hans Reiser. :) Run 'debugreiserfs -p /dev/xxx | gzip -c > xxx.gz' where xxx is the device node for your partition you're having problems with. Send a detailed letter to the reiserfs list, put that file up at an ftp site somewhere, and let Hans download it to see if he can figure out what's going on. At the very least, you'll contribute to the development of a better reiserfsprogs set of utilities. I can't remember if it's an open list or if you have to subscribe first. It doesn't get any spam, so you probably have to subscribe first. Blue skies... Okay, I can see where it would be difficult to put requires for everything under the sun, but how about as a general rule adding them as they become known? For instance, in this case we now know that curl requires rpm 4, and so we will have rpm >=4.x entered into the requires. Yes, no, or did I completely misunderstand what you wrote? -- Brad Felmey

Macros are changing from rpm between various distribution, this was especially the case between a 7.0 to 8.0, between 8.1 and 8.2, there should be not too many changes so you can try without upgrading rpm (but with modifying the spec file). If we have to add such level, this will be done automatically problably and you have to get rpm of distribution requested all the time. This information is not maintained by maintainers most of the time currently but we can add it. François.

Yihaa!!! I finally got snmp to work in php the Mandrake way, damn cool! Those that want to try it can get it here: http://d-srv.com/sw/rpm/Mandrake/ (it's built on ML8.2 for latest apache_1.3.24 from cooker.) -- Regards // Oden Eriksson

If it requires a certain level of rpm to compile, should not then that level of rpm be listed in buildrequires? I ask this because I guess I'm having trouble understanding this process. I've seen rpms that need a certain something that's not in the spec, and the answer was "use cooker". Okay, but if a package requires certain things, then those certain things should be listed in the requires regardless, should they not? [Cooker] MySQL 3.23.50
Hi all For those who noticed it, MySQL 3.23.50 is still a pre-release, meaning that it's just a version to let the users report bugs before the official release. So for those who are interested, you can try this one. If you find bugs, please report it to me as soon as possible, so I will report them to the MySQL team for the official release (which should be out soon). By the way, I compiled this one using gcc-3.1 because compiling it with 2.96 was causing table corruption. If all is ok, when the official release will be out, we will probably update MySQL for older distributions (it's an important bug fix). If you don't want to use more than 1024 bits, don't, just change "Protocol 2,1" to "Protocol 1,2" in "sshd_config" or check the man page for ssh. At present with the current Mandrake package the default is to use protocol v2, RSA2 1024 bits. Increasing the ssh handshake would be devastating for the server performance and cause for a possible dos attack. The whole idea is that it's pointless to have two 1024 bits RSA keys hanging around in /etc/ssh/. The SSH (legacy) protocol v1 uses the "ssh_host_key" which is max 1024 bits. The ssh protocol v2 uses either the "ssh_host_rsa_key" or "ssh_host_dsa_key". Generating the DSA key defaults to 2048 bits. Generating the RSA2 key defaults to 1024 bits. [Cooker] man formatting is buggy for highlights
Hi, all... Since some time ago, many man pages seem broken, there is some missing pieces of text. Finally I think I've got a pettern: mulitple equal letters are collapsed in bold text (like section titles in man pages...). Some examples: werewolf:~> man ksymoops KSYMOOPS(8) KSYMOOPS(8) NAME ksymoops - a utility to decode Linux kernel Oops SYNOP ksymops <=== this is bold & wrong ! werewolf:~> man mlockall MLOCKALL(2) Linux Programmer's Manual MLOCKALL(2) NAME mlockall - disable paging for calling process SYNOP #include int mlockal(int flags); werewolf:~> man yacc YACC(1) YACC(1) NAME Yacc - an LALR(1) parser generator SYNOP yac [ -dlrtv ] [ -b file_prefix ] [ -p symbol_prefix ] filename DESCRIPTION Yac reads the grammar specification in the file filename I tried with "es" and "C" locales, and on several terms (rxvt, xterm, gnome-terminal), even on console. So it is not a terminal problem (I think). Hope this gives some clue... TIA -- J.A.
