[Cooker] Font for checking bad block is distorted
Hi, During the install if you select the advanced option in the "chose the partition you want to format" dialog box. The text for selecting the partition that you wish to check is distorted. It seems like the text is written twice with the second write slightly out of position of the first. Also it you switch back to basic mode the dialog box does not shrink back to it's original size. Just a minor item Brent
[Cooker] Lockup with 9.0 Beta 1
I took the ISO of CD 1 of the Mandrake 9.0 Beta 1 series and pressed a copy. Booting from the CD, I get the splash screen. I pressed return to start the install. The dark blue graphics indicator bar fills (and goes beyond the graphics). Then the screen goes black and text from the kernel booting can be seen. Then I get "You are starting the installation with an alternative booting method. Please change your disk and insert the installation disk" I select having done nothing. Next I get "Please choose the installation method." I use the keyboard and select CDROM drive. A quick message flashes by "Waiting for USB to show up." Finally, I'm left at the menu that states : "Please choose the CDROM drive to use for the installation". There are two drives listed hdc (Compaq DVD-ROM SD612-B) hdd (CDD4801 CD-R/RW) At this point however, my USB keyboard is unresponsive. The arrow keys don't move the highlighted option. The Alt keys can't take me to the log file. The Caplock/Numlock keys do not turn on lights on the keybard. If someone has advice for me to try, please let me know. I am currently working on a Compaq Presario model 5012US. This machine has run Linux Mandrake 7.0, 8.0 and 8.2 without difficulty. If additional information would be useful, ask and I will happily provide it. Awaiting Beta 2. Thanks. Jason __ Do You Yahoo!? Yahoo! Health - Feel better, live better http://health.yahoo.com

To test out the Driver =) compiled on my laptop for my desktop I installed Quake III and ran it up at 1024*768 with the texture details running full. Not one single slowdown or jerk during even the most intense action. One side note though, I created a desktop icon with the icon that comes with quakeIII and when the game comes up the icon appears in the upper left hand corner and stays there through out the entire game. It is not large enough to interfere, just an interesting point. The Icon happens to be on the opposite side of my desktop too. Not really important, just thought it was interesting.

[Cooker] First time wizard (KPersonalizer) work around
A few things: 1) installing The first message you see when installing reads something like: "You are starting with an alternitave booting method. Please change the disk and insert the instalation disk" I read this and thought I incorrectly numbered the cd-r's, but I didn't, so you are told to change disks when booting with the correct disk. The instalation disk is also the only disk that gives that warning. Maybe a re-wording would be in order there. 2) creating an account Maybe some other default icons in userdrake (I know that is a pretty minor detail though) 3) Running KDE (also most important) The KDE KPersonalizer "first time wizard" runs every time. It ran every time when I was running the first stable release on MDK 8.2, and it runs every time in 3.0.2 on beta 1. The temporary workaround for this is to go into /home/YOU/.kde3/share/config/kpersonalizerrc and add the following 2 lines [General] FirstLogin=False -Dana

[Cooker] 9.0 Beta 1: Package request - XEphem
Hi, I'm an astronomer and I noticed that in Mandrake one of the best Linux astronomy apps is missing. It's called XEphem and is currently at version 3.5.2. It's home page is here: http://www.clearskyinstitute.com/xephem/ I hope it is not too late for package additions as it would be really great to see this app in your distro. -- Live long and prosper!

And you built against the kernel source that shipped with the beta? Sorry, but: 1)I find this hard to believe, I compiled mine two days ago on cooker (which was probably a day or two behind then) and I have no problems. 2)This isn't a problem with any of the software (regaring your display card) shipped in the beta, since all the software that did seems to work fine according to your comment. Since I made RPMs for 8.2's updated kernel for the Mandrake Club, and built them on my cooker box also, you can grab RPMs for the current cooker kernel here: http://ranger.dnsalias.com/mandrake/cooker/ SRPM is on the Mandrake club. [Cooker] Fwd: [expert] "noauto" Filesytems being mounted at boot
Hi list, I sent this to EXPERT list the other day, but no one was biting! System in question is all cooker! Thanks, -Chuck -- Forwarded Message -- Subject: [expert] "noauto" Filesytems being mounted at boot Date: Wed, 24 Jul 2002 21:07:21 -0400 From: Chuck Shirley <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] This has been bothering me for some time now, but I thought it was something I misconfigued on my system. I have my optical drives (CD-RW and DVD-ROM) like so in my fstab: /dev/scd0 /mnt/cdrom2 iso9660 noauto,ro,user 0 0 /dev/dvd /mnt/dvd iso9660 noaouto,ro,user 0 0 So I don't want them to auto-mount (like at boot time from rc.sysinit) and I want the user to be able to control mount/umount of these devices. But, at boot time, if there is a disc in either drive, it is mounted and I have to be superuser to umount the disc. Also, if there is no disc in any optical drive, rc.sysinit complains about no media. Can someone enlighten me here? -- +-% He's a real UNIX Man $-+-+ \ Sitting in his UNIX LAN \ Charles A. Is there anyway the PyQt and SIP packages can be included so that one can develop Qt apps written in pyton. Redhat and SuSE already include these. Thanks, Chris
[Cooker] 9.0 Beta 1: First Time Wizzard
Hi, When a user logins for the first time First Time Wizzard appears. When in Personal Identity step I can't eneter local chars into it, for example š, đ, ž, ć, č, Š, Đ, Ž, Ć, Č. These chars work just fine in login screen. it also happened twice that I couldn't even type anything into the text fields in that step. -- Live long and prosper!
[Cooker] 9.0 Beta 1: Slovenian documentation
Hi, In addition to English installation I also selected Slovenian. Documentation installed OK. But I noticed two problems so far: 1. Character encoding for Slovenian HOWTOs index file (/usr/share/doc/HOWTO/HTML/sl/index.html) is not set so browsers default to some encoding which is not OK to display our local caracters. You should set the encoding to ISO-8859-2 to display characters correctly. I also suspect encoding isn't set for other non-english documentation index files, so I think it would be a good idea to check it out and set it correctly 2. Link to Slovenian HOWTOs is added to Documentation menu for roor user. but for other users it is not added. -- Live long and prosper!

This makes use of data sources rather difficult... :-) It's not only data source that are impossible to use, it's also Templates. And no settings get saved (or, at least, none of the ones I tried). With -3mdk compiled on 8.2 running on cooker, I can use templates, until I restart. AFAICR, everything works fine on 8.2 running -3mdk. I am assuming Gwenole will update to 1.0.1 as part of the gcc 3.2 rebuilding of contribs? IMHO, OO.o is one of those crucial apps that will make or break Mandrake 9.0 for use on a corporate deskop (I hope not to have to build OO.o RPMs for us to use again ...). >It appears to be a cooker-only problem as it all works great on MD 8.2. >In fact, my work-around has been to configure the data sources on one of >my 8.2 systems and then copy the DataAccess.xml file to my cooker >systems.
