[Cooker] [Bug 1425] [kdenetwork] K Remote Desktop - Browsing not available. SLP support not installed correctly.

The error message box now does not show up until you open the dialogue and click the browse button. So, you can open it without the error message, clicking browse brings on the error. --- You are receiving this mail because: --- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is. --- Reminder: --- assigned_to: [EMAIL PROTECTED] status: UNCONFIRMED creation_date: description: When opening KDE's - Remote Desktop Connection program, there is a warning box that pops up informing that browsing is not available "Browsing the network is not possible. You probably did not install SLP support correctly." Since this is one of the installed components of KDE it would be nice to have this feature work out of the box. I've downloaded and installed openslp from cooker, thinking that installing that, and starting the service might fix it (and allow browsing of open VNC servers on the LAN.) But, since that didn't, I'm thinking kdenetwork may need to be compiled with slp support switched on?

If you need to > patch your theme to read another toolkit settings, this mean something > is broken elsewhere.. You are fixing the consequences of the bug, not > the bug itself.. I suppose the "bug itself" is that KDE/Qt and GNOME/GTK use different color files, and thus each toolkit should be patched to fix this. However, even then, since a GTK theme like Galaxy has hard coded colors, at least part of the "bug" is indeed in Galaxy's court to fix. However, we must also consider this: what is the purpose of a "distribution"? Is it simply to pile a bunch of apps onto a CD? No, its to fill in the areas that aren't handled by other software and to turn a bunch of Linux and GNU packages into something useful. As I said before, using "menu" to keep KDE/GNOME/whatever else menus sync'ed isn't necessarily fixing the bug, but "fixing the consequences of the bug." However, lets face it: it is the smart way to do things until upstream fixes the "bug" completely. It works well. Likewise, a GTK theme that works with .qtrc (which you may feel free to rename, or you can create a cron job that creates a seperate .gtkcolor file if you don't want to be associated with Qt ;-)) is a good way to solve the problem of keeping colors in sync. If we apply the "don't fix the consequence" solution to menus, we would still have GNOME menus with one set of applications and KDE with another. Surely we don't want that. So why do we want the color equivilent of that? -Tim - -- - Timothy R. https://qa.mandrakesoft.com/show_bug.cgi?id=2096 Product: mozilla Component: mozilla Summary: Accented vowels cannot be typed in Mozilla in HTML forms. Version: 1.3-0.beta.2mdk Platform: PC OS/Version: All Status: UNCONFIRMED Severity: normal Priority: P2 AssignedTo: [EMAIL PROTECTED] ReportedBy: [EMAIL PROTECTED] My locale is set to "en_US". I have a US keyboard, but I sometimes write in Spanish, so I have mapped a few keys to type accents and other spanish characters. I can type accented vowels in all applications (OpenOffice, gedit, xterm, etc...) but I cannot in Mozilla. Since I upgraded to Mozilla 1.3alpha (and now with beta), accented vowels cannot be typed in HTML forms. I can copy text with accents into a form, and it gets copied correctly, with the accents. But I when I type accented vowels into an HTML form in Mozilla, only the vowels shows up, not the accent. I have set up Mozilla to use different fonts in the HTML forms, and still, accents do not show up with neither of them. The same behaviour can be seen in the current Galeon (galeon-1.3.2-1mdk), but all other applications do not have this problem (Konqueror, OpenOffice, gedit, xterm, etc: They all accept typed accented characters). --- You are receiving this mail because: --- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.

Doing so would make first impression of the screen much more modern than the tiny icons displayed with the current setting (I know people can easily change the size, but if most people set it to normal, then why not default it to that?). By making this change, I think people will quit complaining about how dated the default KDE looks (the icons look pretty plain when the KDE Panel is set to tiny). This is not a critical issue, but since Mandrake is spending a lot of time on the user interface, it would be a plus to have KDE look as nice as possible.

I use a hot-key combination to change from one desktop to another. My WindowMaker is configured with Auto input focus mode (focus follows mouse), without automatic focus of new windows, and with "Opaque move" turned on. "open dialogs in same workspace as owners" is also turned on. I believe this bug is in some way related to bug 2087, but it is not a duplicate. The problem is with manual-switching from one desktop to a desktop where Mozilla is. If the mouse happened to be in a position such that when we go to the desktop where Mozilla is, the mouse lands on top of Mozilla, then Mozilla does not get the keyboard focus. But, if in the first desktop we put the mouse in a position that will be outside of the Mozilla window in the next desktop, then switch into the Mozilla desktop, and then move the mouse on top of Mozilla, then Mozilla does get the focus. This behaviour did not occur with my previous system (it had a previous version of XFree86, WindowMaker and Mozilla). I am submitting this bug as a WindowMaker bug, because I think it is a problem with WindowMaker. When the install starts, the "Initial Tests" progress bar hangs about 1/3 of the way through for about 20-30 minutes with CPU pinned at 100% on a 2.4GHz P4. I waited it out, and it eventually finished successfully, but any consumer-grade user is going to think that it's either hung or gone into a loop. Whatever's being done with these fonts, I think you need a popup display in front of the drakfont four-bar progress display which displays the fontname being processed and a progress bar specific to that font and whatever is being done to it in that particular phase (Initial Tests, etc.). At least that will display some activity to indicate to the user that *something* productive is going on. I understand that you are calling another package under the covers, so if you can't do a progress bar, then at least an activity indicator combined with a popup saying that this may take a VERY long time would be appropriate. Since the activity is so CPU-bound, it should be possible to come up with a prediction based on the number of fonts, and at least display the amount of time (based on bogoflops or whatever) that you expect it to take.

[Cooker] [Bug 1356] [drakxtools] drakfont needs better progress indicators
https://qa.mandrakesoft.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1356 --- Additional Comments From [EMAIL PROTECTED] 2003-02-22 01:25 --- This still fails in the Feb 21 cooker. I experimented some more. Individual fonts or groups of fonts (5-10) install quickly and with no problem. To test whether this has to do with specifying a directory, I copied about 10 fonts to a directory on the hard drive and tried to install the directory. That worked fine. There appears to be a performance (CPU) problem where the CPU necessary to "unselect fonts installed" goes up exponentially with the number of fonts in the selected directory (or, more probably, the number of fonts, period). This did work back in 9.0. --- You are receiving this mail because: --- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is. --- Reminder: --- assigned_to: [EMAIL PROTECTED] status: UNCONFIRMED creation_date: description: I have collected all of my Windows fonts onto a CD (about 300 fonts, 80-90 MB) and use the CD to install these fonts on my Mandrake systems. [Cooker] [Bug 2089] [Installation] New: Several notes/problems on the installation
https://qa.mandrakesoft.com/show_bug.cgi?id=2089 Product: Installation Component: Installation Summary: Several notes/problems on the installation Version: 1.790 Platform: PC OS/Version: All Status: UNCONFIRMED Severity: normal Priority: P2 AssignedTo: [EMAIL PROTECTED] ReportedBy: [EMAIL PROTECTED] These are the notes I've written down, I feel they're more appropriate to write as a single report rather than a series of problems. 1. The monitor refresh rate used by the installation program is awful - it's probably 60 Hz. It's hurting my eyes! 2. When checking the partitions, it complains that the partition table is too inconsistent (seems to me it got messed up by the Beta). I chose the option to ignore the problem, but too many fake partitions appeared. 3. Before and after the partition problem message, there was a long (~10-20sec.) time of high disk activity without anything being written on the screen. Frightening. 4. First attempt at installation, after package "libsane1", it went kinda bluescreen. The X was frosen, the installation program could be seen by "top" to be running, but there was nothing to do. An error message was saying something about "disk out of space". Running df did not show anything. I killed the installation program, and it rebooted. Next time it succeeded through all the packages. 5. The "detailed list" box of the installation screen is too empty. It would be very nice to add there a scroller-enabled list of all the packages already installed (or even maybe show those that are to be installed). That's not necessary, but would provide a good entertainment and in the same time allow me to learn something new about the system during the install. 6. The "change CD" dialog box is too small, such that it appears with a scrollbar. This is just a sign of untydiness that better not appear during the install. Making it a few pixels better will help. 7. When "installing bootloader", it doesn't let me select anything! Probably it is because it was an upgrade, but if I remember correctly, a fresh install of the beta did not ask me any questions either. 8. the "installing bootloader" got stuck. It generated several lilo options with the "unsafe" line in them, and lilo gave an error. I fixed it by manually editing /etc/lilo.conf and running lilo. This did not help the GUI, but as it was the last relevant step of the installation, I just rebooted the machine and it started OK. There was no way to opt out of the bootloader installation, or, e.g. ask for the bootloader to be installed to a floppy. Finally, the system seems OK and running, but I feel that a non-expert would have no chances at all to get it going (I know it's an RC, I specifically report these problems so that the final product will be easier on a novice). Thanks, Alex --- You are receiving this mail because: --- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.
[Cooker] [Bug 2087] [WindowMaker] Switching desktops in WindowMaker makes Mozilla flicker and crash
https://qa.mandrakesoft.com/show_bug.cgi?id=2087 --- Additional Comments From [EMAIL PROTECTED] 2003-02-22 01:23 --- Me again... I just tried to change the settings in WindowMaker so that the focus does not follow the mouse, but instead you have to click on a window to give it the focus. With this change, the problem I describe above does not occur. It seems as if when switching into the desktop where Mozilla is, WindowMaker cannot decide which of the two Mozilla windows to give the focus to, even though the mouse is clearly on top of one or the other, but not both. --- You are receiving this mail because: --- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is. --- Reminder: --- assigned_to: [EMAIL PROTECTED] status: UNCONFIRMED creation_date: description: In WindowMaker I have several desktops. I use a hot-key combination to change from one desktop to another. My WindowMaker is configured with Auto input focus mode (focus follows mouse), without automatic focus of new windows, and with "Opaque move" turned on. "open dialogs in same workspace as owners" is also turned on. In one of the desktops I have Mozilla. I can switch to and from that desktop without problems when there is only one mozilla window open. However, if there are two or more (a second Mozilla window, or a pop-up), then there is a problem when switching from another desktop to the desktop where Mozilla is. There is no problem switching from Mozillas desktop to another desktop. Moreover, the problem is only when switching manually with the hot-key. If switching by clicking on the desktop switcher of WindowMaker, the problem does not appear. The problem is the following: The mozilla windows flicker when I switch into this desktop. In order to reproduce this problem, the mouse must be located in a certain area of the screen before switching to Mozilla desktop. To reproduce: 1. Start a X session with WindowMaker (I do it from GDM, init 5) 2. Configure WindowMaker to have two desktops: A and B 3. In (A), open Mozilla. Use the hot-key to change to (B). 4. Now go back to (A). Mozilla does not flicker. 5. Now open a second Mozilla window. Use the hot-key to go to (B). 6. Use the hot-key to go back to (A). The title bar of the Mozilla windows flickers, and most of the times the mozilla window does not get redrawn until a while later. Before doing step (6), you will be in desktop (B). At this point, make sure that the mouse is in the area where the second Mozilla window is in the other desktop. In other words... once you switch into (A), the mouse ought to land on top of the second window. Otherwise the problem does not appear. On occasions, Mozilla will even crash after flickering for a short while. I have not found the same behaviour with other applications that have two windows open at once. I have not found this behaviour of Mozilla when I try the same experiment under KDE. Only on WindowMaker.

The DHCP server knows things that I want it to tell me: gateway and local DNS servers, for instance. However, that doesn't mean I want it to erase things that I want to keep around, especially if it doesn't have any better suggestions (e.g. search, which is simply erased if the DHCP server didn't specify anything). -- Jack Coates Monkeynoodle: A Scientific Venture...

If no search domain has been specified by the DHCP server, then search $ALWAYS_SEARCH_DNS will also be appended. Is having resolv.conf not replaced when you make a DHCP connection what you want? Are you aware of the possibility of adding the line: PEERDNS=no to /etc/sysconfig/network ? This is because it's really annoying to sign onto a new LAN and have X apps unable to find themselves because your search line has been overwritten by a braindead DHCP server. At this point, I also looked in OpenOffice.org, and I could not find the wadalab fonts, but both kochi-gothic and kochi-mincho were in the font listings there. This looks like an incorrect font setup to me! I am using acpi on my IBM 600X, which seems to work ok, except that I do not see any benefit over APM (bseides the fact that I can view temperatures and charge in mWh). Am I supposed to see my machine suspend automatically (it does not)? All my normal devices (PCMCIA NIC, winmodem, USB port etc) work, but I was hoping for a bit more ... Maybe I should go back to apm, then at least I can use apmiser to throttle the CPU (which I am not sure acpi does at present). [Cooker] [Bug 427] [drakxtools] Drakfont freezes the whole partition
https://qa.mandrakesoft.com/show_bug.cgi?id=427 --- Additional Comments From [EMAIL PROTECTED] 2003-02-21 23:42 --- This bug is still present in RC1. I have a Windows XP NTFS partition, and drakfont hangs almost immediately after starting the second stage: "Copy fonts on your system". In case this helps, the bug first appeared in 9.0RC2 (see MandrakeExpert #31662) - 9.0RC1 worked OK (at least for me). My workaround is to copy the Windows fonts onto my FAT32 partition, then unmount the NTFS partition before running drakfont. cp seems to be able to copy the files without a problem I vaguely recall someone posted a message on MandrakeForum saying they had got it to work by recompiling the kernel for their processor (an Athlon), but can't vouch for this. I have a 3COM 3C905 NIC in PCI slot, no onboard NIC. I see no settings in my bios for PIC/APIC. I also tried the edit to ifcfg-eth0 and that didn't work. System works fin with Win2k and Mandrake 9.0. It detected my card (3Com 3C905B) and I selected to use DHCP to configure IP address. But after I restarted the computer I got an error that eth0 was unable to start. It suggested to check cable. I have Windows XP pro on the same machine and it is also set to use DHCP and to automatically negotitate mode and speed. My network card is connected to LevelOne FBR-1403TX router and in Windows XP Pro the NIC is correctly set to full duplex mode and 100 mbit speed. All works fine in Windows. So I think there is nothing wrong with cabling or something. It looks like Mandrake Connection wizzard doesn't set the network card up correctly. I also tried to configure the network after the installation from Mandrake Control Center and eth0 still can't start up. I searched all around to find the place where I could manualy set duplex mode and line speed or enable auto negotiation but I was unable to find this.

A fine workaround, though in either case (Evo or Kmail) the workflow is unacceptable: 1) decide to reply. 2) click reply. 3) write message. 4) click send. 5) realize that it didn't go to the list. 6) investigate why in "Sent". 7) start a new reply using To-List workaround. 8) copy and paste from Sent into a new mail message. Steps 5 through 8 of course very rarely get done, in which case the answer doesn't get archived, the conversation thread is not public, and the usefulness of the mailing list is decreased. -- Jack Coates Monkeynoodle: A Scientific Venture...

[Cooker] [Bug 1637] [OpenOffice.org] OpenOffice doesn't start.
https://qa.mandrakesoft.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1637 --- Additional Comments From [EMAIL PROTECTED] 2003-02-21 22:30 --- I just started having this problem as well. It worked a couple days ago. It must be printer related. Using spadmin from the local user, I changed the default printer from the configured one to "Generic printer". OO.o then started normally. The problem may be that the wadalab-gothic and watanabe-mincho fonts are wrong, they can be used trough X11 font server, but not trough Xft2 that fails to handle them. drakfont uses pango (as all other gtk2 programs) which will fallback to other fotns in orderto be able to display all characters. The choosen font will always have the priority, but missing chars will be taken from other fonts. Qt (used by KDE) on the other hand won't try that, and missing chars will be shown as empty squares. Maybe we should remove the wadalab-gothic and watanabe-mincho fonts? When I browse through the font list in the font-setup module in kcontrol, I cannot find any of the Japanese fonts: kochi-gothic kochi-mincho wadalab-gothic wadalab-mincho I cannot find them in the drakfont listing either. I tried this with and without AA on, both in a Japanese KDE environment as well as an English KDE environment. I then copied /usr/share/fonts/ttf/japanese/kochi-gothic.ttf to /tmp and used drakfont to install it, and then it appeared in the drakfont listings as well as the KDE font-module. At this point, I also looked in OpenOffice.org, and I could not find the wadalab fonts, but both kochi-gothic and kochi-mincho were in the font listings there. This looks like an incorrect font setup to me! Note: To be precise: When one uses localedrake to setup a Japanese account, wadalab is set up as the default fixed font in KDE [can't remember which one of the two, gothic or mincho]. However, wadalab doesn't appear in the listing of the selectable fonts.
