Now, you may do so by changing order of `/etc/urpmi/urpmi.cfg'. Cool! I thought it looked to go in order, at one point, but didn't quite know WHAT order, or where to look to change it. Now I do. It doesn't LOOK like it's doing this now, but maybe it does.. If several sources are available for an item, according to the latest hdlst.cz, and one fails, try the others. But this is gonna be hard for rpmdrake since the installer/downloader is grpmi, which doesn't know anything about dependencies (it only installs/downloads). IOW, it would do the same thing that urpmi already does to figure out which of several versions is the newest, but if the hdlist.cz file was outdated, it would automatically try the next logical release stepping instead This wouldn't be safe since a new release may have different dependencies. [Cooker] Xbox version - installer problem
Hi! I am working on an adaption of 9.1 RC2 for the Xbox. I am currently working on the installation system. I am using an Xbox-patched version of the 2.4.21-0.11mdkBOOT kernel and I'm trying to get the installation X server running. I did this before in Mandrake 9.0 and it worked quite well. The Xbox bootloader sets up a 640x480x32bpp (BGRX) screen (VESA framebuffer driver), and after patching install_gtk.pm to write an X configuration file with a screen depth of 32 instead of 16, the installation X server (XFree/FB 3.3.6) detected and used the screen for the installation procedure. Now on 9.1 RC2 everything is the same. The same X server binary is identical, install_gtk.pm creates the same X server config file - again I patched it to 32 bits. But this time, the X server keeps complaining: ---snip--- (**) FBDev: Using default frame buffer video mode Fatal server error: fbdevScreenInit: unable to set screen params (Invalid argument) ---snip--- In 9.0 it printed some information about the screen, like 4096 KB RAM, 32 bpp and everything, this time I get no such statistics, just this error. I compared the kernel .config with the 2.4.19-16mdkBOOT one of 9.0, and the framebuffer configuration seems to be identical. Any ideas? Michael

On Sat 15 Mar 2003 07:05, Olivier Thauvin posted as excerpted below: Try urpmi.setup :) Actually, just loaded it the other day, based on references I saw on the list. Pretty neat proggy! It does seem to have an issue with updating multiple sources, however, with little or no indication of how the update going leaving the user wondering if it has locked up or what... Update sources also seems not to work to dependably -- I update sources, then go to a console and do it, and still have stuff updated at the console, meaning urpmi.setup didn't do it, altho it didn't produce any error messages either. .. Which reminds me. Since that's not an official package yet, AFAIK, where do bug reports go? Re: [Cooker] Xbox version - installer problem
Michael Steil [EMAIL PROTECTED] writes: Hi! Any ideas? How are you testing the installation ? Network, CD ? The installation is present in 2 for on the system, as live files in /Mandrake/mdkinst, and as ramdisk image in Mandrake/base/mdkinst_stage2.bz2 In NFS, harddrive, and when system has less than 64 MB of ram, the live files are used, otherwize the ramdisk choosen. Note: I'm using cooker SRPMs rebuilt for 9.0, but that shouldn't affect the validity of the report.

The problem is that orinoco_cs is supposed to obsolete the wavelan and wvlan drivers :\. I don't know where you can get a copy of the wvlan source to compile, either...what a pain. Have you tested with 128bit encryption? If you could do that, and verify that it works, we could possibly mail the orinoco author, since that'd make two of us who couldn't get 64bit encryption to work. He's pretty responsive - seemed nice when I mailed him with PCMCIA IDs. So that might be the only other option...what a pain :(. Anyway, I'm fairly sure this isn't a Mandrake bug, but may as well leave it here as it's a convenient place to discuss :) --- You are receiving this mail because: --- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is. --- Reminder: --- assigned_to: [EMAIL PROTECTED] status: UNCONFIRMED creation_date: description: Am running 9.1RC2 on a Compaq M700 with a Compaq WL110 (Orinoco) wireless card. Re: [Cooker] k3b and KDE desktop icons
I ran into this (or in my case, a *very* similar problem) last night also. I did not want the icon for hdd showing up, but also wanted to keep my /dev/hdd listing (in my case not a supermount) and the desktop icon I had added on my own (hdd is a cdrom in my case). I also was getting the floppy icon I did not want. Here's what worked for me as a fix. using /usr/share/mdk/kde/root-interface/kdesktoprc as an example, I added a [Devices] section to my ~/.kde/share/config/kdesktoprc containing: exclude=kdedevice/hdd_mounted,kdedevice/hdd_unmounted, kdedevice/floppy_mounted,kdedevice/floppy_unmounted (the above has a carriage return NOT in the original ASCII) Hope this helps. [Cooker] [Bug 3324] [XFree86] laptop acpi/XFree interaction
http://qa.mandrakesoft.com/show_bug.cgi?id=3324 --- Additional Comments From [EMAIL PROTECTED] 2003-03-15 18:03 --- I have a quite similar problem with my Dell C610 since 3 cooker version of XFree (but with new kernel too, may be the two are conflicting ?). Everything is OK on console, I can switch CRT/LCD/Both with the Dell Function Key (Fn) + F7 When I launch X, Fn + F7 make a little schmurtz on screen, but nothing really happens. The problem is that the CRT screen is keeping the resolution of console, I mean the desktop is bigger than the showed on screen. This was happening even before, but I was switching off/on CRT display to have all the desktop on screen... Also, if LCD was off, at the X start, it goes gray ;) like On but no image. I try to load the i8k module as I see in kernel config that it's for Dell laptop (and special keys), but everything was working before, without i8k module. Same problem with i8k module loaded. Also, about ACPI, it is not working well (no battery charge), even after disabled apci, and put in kernel the battery, fan and so on in kernel. The acpi-kernel and Xfree problem have appear quite at same period. --- You are receiving this mail because: --- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is. --- Reminder: --- assigned_to: [EMAIL PROTECTED] status: NEW creation_date: description: Configuration: Toshiba 5205-S703 laptop, NVIDIA GeoForce 4 Go card I am not sure if this is a kernel, XFree or what problem. This error has already been in LM 9.0 and still exists in 9.1 RC1 and cooker version. I guess the error results from the fact, that chkconfig --list returns mysql as the last element and the perlscript that uses this list for drakxservices must handle the last entry(mysql) somehow wrong. The script is pretty long and I'm not familiar with it, so I don't think I would be able to findout the error within a reasonable time. Please check this. Linux-phased, MandrakeSoft Supportteam

At bootloader configuration, selected 'Advanced' and selected the box to make a bootdisk. Chose to install grub to hdg8, the / partition. Was not asked what is the disk containing my primary bootloader. After reboot, as in rc2, there did not appear to be a bootloader on hdg8 and there was no menu.lst. Configuring in drakboot created a menu and installed the bootloader to hdg8. Seemingly, the selection to create a bootdisk in Advanced is the factor common to both failures to install the bootloader at install. Perhaps related, a screen is displayed subsequent to the installer's bootloader configuration section wherein creation of the bootdisk is declined by default and I must reselect to create the bootdisk. Report.bug is attached. --- You are receiving this mail because: --- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is. --- Reminder: --- assigned_to: [EMAIL PROTECTED] status: UNCONFIRMED creation_date: description: This is for an hd install, md5sum of isos, hd.img, and hd.img floppy verified. This is really nice. But the rpm is alerady installed at that point. If the rpm had to run programs after installation - e.g. a server, or generate fils - this was done using the old config file. Example - if /etc/fonts/fonts.conf changes in an update, the font cache will be rebuilt using the old /etc/fonts/fonts..conf before the user is prompted, and after selecting .rpmnew the font cache and the conf file are out of sync, possibly causing slow startup or incorrect behaviour for some programs. There are other examples of course, e.g. if apache.conf is changed. I'm wondering if it'd be possible to integrate rpm gurpmi a little further, and have the rpm post-install stuff done *after* the user has decided? Or if this even makes sense? Just a thought, I've marked it minor.
