Btw, have you tried any of these yourself? I don't see why people working on the software which many many many people use should spend time working on software which may not be of any use. You will find people much more willing to package software if you can give hints on how good it is, how easy it is to package, what it depends on etc. Of course, then you are half way to making an RPM anyway, so why not make an SRPM and have it put in contrib. No criticism, just an obervation on how best you can get what you want, as I am quite sure you don't want a distro with many non-working or beta-quality games and utilities, but no stable desktop or configuration tools. Re: [Cooker] TV-out config tool
yes, it write an Xfree config file for tv-out support. In fact, there are two parts : - a tv-out configure tool (card (ATI, Nividia, Matrox G400?, Voodoo3 ?), format (PAL, NTSC)). - a tv-out switch tool (select if a TV will be connected next time the PC will be (re)started). All are writen in Perl with Mdk's library interactive and can be included in MCC. The switch tool could be used in text mode too. Atitvout don't work directly with xfree and some features don't work on my ATI Rage 128 and perhaps Radeon and it need to start in text mode for switching. I have writen a switching tool that use atitvout but the new version is very easier to use and is more stable ! I prefer the new one ! Re: [Cooker] re : multimedia keyboards
The dev team is reactive and the next version will be compatible with the background. It's easy to use and look nice. When it will work well, why don't integrate it in the MCC with language choice ? Release schedule or no release schedule, this is a showstopper. It's not like a buggy version of minesweeper - we're talking about oopsing the kernel with something as widely used (and depended upon in enterprise environments) as Samba mounts. How can you *possibly* expect business to take you seriously when you release something like this? It only appears when the smb exported name are encoded in 16 bits, if I understood correctly. There was plenty of time between the reports and final for this to be fixed and tested. Not one single Mdk developer ever even replied to the reports. There was plenty of time for you, maybe, but in case you did not notice, I did not feel like lazy last days. Whomever made this decision should have to wear a dunce cap. Stupidity personified. Re: [Cooker] Mandrake way of life
What are the knows big problems in 8.2 final ? Thanks From: Warly [EMAIL PROTECTED] Reply-To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: [Cooker] Mandrake way of life Date: Sun, 17 Mar 2002 10:12:46 +0100 Mandrake Linux is based on a fixed date releasing due to market constraints (distributor/supplier schedules). As a consequence the release date was scheduled 3 months ago. On this date we have a very little margin of 2 or 3 days, but not more. So the datum is: release date is March the 15th. Now we need to do it in this timeframe (and we are the 17th), and we have no other choice. In a few days 8.2 updates will be released, and them you will have the real stable and polished distro you want. Debian has no real realease date, as a consequence doing a stable release is just a piece of cake, anybody can do it. Maybe our model is not good. Thinking of a better model, I am not sure what I could choose. No deadline means no hurry, and if the last moments didn't exist, nothing good would be done. Moreover if we wait too much, new versions of nearly all the tools in the distro will be released, and their respective authors will not care anymore fixing bugs in the old version we would have included. I do think that our model is not so bad, and that we are reaching a good compromise between cutting edge and stability, but /this/ compromise _is needed_. -- Warly = _ Rejoignez le plus grand service de messagerie au monde avec MSN Hotmail. http://www.hotmail.com/fr
