Right, I've created the ISOs, updated all the packages from the update site. Have also updated Mozilla to version 1.5, included Thunderbird and Firebird and updated k3b to 0.10. I'll bittorrent the isos tomorrow and wil release them tomorrow. Manu

Unfortunately I do not work for Mandrake and have no associations with them at all. I am just creating those CDs for myself and myself only. I will be releasing to you guys through here because some people have shown interest. I'll let u all know what has been updated but cannot guarantee that they will work (they work on my laptop, which is a start). Right, won't release anything today, I'm going to wait for the kernel that solves teh LG drives problem. Would it be possible to re-package the ISO with the updates included and/or point me towards instructions to tell me how to make the new ISO (with included updates) myself?? Re: [Cooker] New ISO with updates
Righto, the isos are created and I'm just about to test them. If I cannot find any problems, I'll bittorrent them on Monday under the name of Manudrake-9.2.1 (I'm fairly sure i cannot use the name Mandrake and 9.2.1 is better than 9.2SP1 (in my opinion)). Also, since I'm a bit strapped for cash this month, I'm planning to sell these on CDs in the UK for people with slower connections (kinda like cheapbytes) - probably for £5 for 4 CDs including shipping (will get back on Monday). Anyone interested??? Cheers, Manu

I am quite newbie with the whole signing the packages thingy. How do I check all the packages signature and (if failed) how do i resign the packages with a given signature??? Cheers, Manu P.S: Good feedback. I agree with getting new distro CDs every so often and i am willing to do it (fast net connection helps) every so often (so expect Manudrake 9.2.2 etc...). i just need a bit of help setting it all up (e.g. signing packages)... which packages to ad etc... P.P.S: I am thinking of adding PLF's dvd packages, what do you think?? What would be nice is that every so often, a snapshot of the distro with the latest bug fixes be released; for use when you are installing new and you don't want to bother with a fourth download cd or you don't have an internet connection handy. In my opinion this is a real market gap and it's something I'd be willing to pay for. Right now 9.1 has a huge amount of updates that would better be integrated into a new set of installation cd's, instead of a tag-along cd as I'm doing it now. The only suggestion I have is that before you master them you do all your Gpg checks on the packages and make sure all the rpm's pass. LX

Features that would be interesting in a laptop installation class though are: -enable powernow and speedstep module by default -enable cpufreqd by default and make it easy to configure it -make sure pcmcia and usb are loaded BEFORE network - too many times have i needed to restart my network because of that (so easy to fix as well) Cheers, Emmanuel On Tue, 2003-08-05 at 11:09, Buchan Milne wrote: -BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE- Hash: SHA1 Adam Williamson wrote: On Mon, 2003-08-04 at 22:32, MEISCH,CORY (HP-Vancouver,ex1) wrote: I know it's kind of late in the game and it's been discussed before but I was wondering if we could have a Laptop Installation class. For now, all it would have to be is: a kernel with ACPI enable and things like SCSI and other stuff not found in laptops turned off. Then for software, just enable ACPI by default and install/configure the suspend scripts. Currently, as an (ignorant) user, I have to make sure to enable ACPI during install, and remember to install the other scripts post install... SCSI turned off? I'm not entirely sure how it works, but would that cause any inconvenience for, for example, a USB2 CDRW drive? And USB flash drivers, usb-storage camers, PCMCIA-SCSI cards (we have one, though it currently only gets used under Windows, but still ...) And don't DrakX and drakboot install the necessary packages if you use them to enable ACPI? I haven't had to mess with any things. Really, I don't see that you can differentiate between laptops and any other machines (besides possibly the hard disk patch ...), since a number of laptops now ship with 1GB ram, and many users do development work with many server components installed ... It would be nice though to have DrakX detect laptops, and install relevant packages (such as tpctl, tpb etc etc), but a lot of the packages are in contrib anyway. Features I *would* like to see are things like the ability for diskdrake to create a suspend-to-disk partition on laptops with a compatible BIOS. Re: [Cooker] MdkKDM (was: free choice?)
KDm is very good but looks-wise GDM kicks ass. Here is what could be a compromise: -Keep the central window of KDM with the user display and all the buttons -Integrate KDM in the background (quite easy, use the same colour for the widget as the background colout) -Add a bar at the bottom of the screen (a la GDM) -Add a cool background.
