[Cooker] Danger: Magazine with 9.2 with problematic kernel
I just have bought a linux magazine (Todo Linux) that comes with the two first Mandrake 9.2 and, of course, with the old kernel. Nothing in the magazine warn about the possible problem with LG cdrom drivers. It could be problematic have lot of people having their LG cdrom-drivers broken. At least a note about the danger should be put. :-( Mandrake should be more carefull with this, shouldn't it? Regards -- Francisco Alcaraz Ariza Murcia, España (Spain)
[Cooker] Power pack shiped today ¿LG problems?
I have received an e-mail saying that my order (power pack 9.2) has been shipped today. My question is: ¿is the problematic kernel comming with the final power pack or not? The solution, in a few days. Regards -- Francisco Alcaraz Ariza Murcia, España (Spain)

Re: [Cooker] And next ?
What about a "metadistro" with a cdrom (in the future a dvdrom) runing Mandrake from the cd-driver? similar to Knoppix but with all the Mandrake goodies. Lot of people has started to use linux after a successfull Knoppix/Gnome-live cd experience. Regards Francisco Alcaraz Murcia (Spain)
[Cooker] Problem: Multiple Detection of ide cd(dvd)-Recorder
I am isolating the problem; is not with the Toshiba DVD-ROM SD-5002, because I have seen that it could run under linux (search made in google), but with having two cd-rw/dvd-rw attached at the same ide (in the case of my friend, on ide1). The problem is occuring with the last kernels (google search again) In a Suse related page: (http://sdb.suse.de/en/sdb/html/max_scsi_luns.html) it is well described: "Symptom: Your IDE CD-recorder for which a SCSI emulation is running is detected 8 times and occupies /dev/scd0 to /dev/scd7. A typical symptom is the command cdrecord -scanbus displaying the same CD-recorder eight times. Solution: Insert max_scsi_luns=1 as a kernel parameter for your boot loader configuration. If you use LILO as your boot loader, insert this parameter in the append line of LILO's configuration file /etc/lilo.conf. If you use GRUB as your boot loader, insert the parameter in the kernel line of GRUB's menu list /boot/grub/menu.lst. After the changes, LILO must be restarted. For GRUB, changes apply immediately. " I think this afternoon I will be able to test the solution (my friend isn't at home now). I will inform you of the results; but if this can occur with 9.2 it will be a good idea to put some comment about this subject at the Mandrake web page, wouldn't be? Re: [Cooker] wish list for 9.2
Well, so the message of Guillaume should be interpreted about de development of draktools and others utilities to be created by the Mandrakesoft team or incorporated to the system. Let me think It will be good for 9.2 to include 1) Documentation about specific taks: lisen to music on mandrake, create cds from mp3 to run in a compact-disk music-driver, playing dvds and so on. The style I like so much is that of http://www.trylinusd.com (for instance, www.trylinuxsd.com/music). Those documents could be incorporated in pdf files (Browing the Web with Mozilla/Konqueror, Enjoying Music, Playing DVDs; Burnig cds Those kind of documents will be usefull for newbies and I am sure will take lot of new linux user to try Mandrake. 2) Incorporate the new drak utilities to Mandrake Control Center (drakedm). 3) An utility like drakprofile for people runing laptops at home and at work. I don't understand why drakprofile dissapeared. To be continued -- Francisco Alcaraz Ariza Murcia, España (Spain)

[Cooker] Mandrake 9.1 installation: the best of the best!!
I have installed 9.1 in two computers (one of them a laptop) and the experience has been the best I have ever had. A) Pentium III 800, 256Mb Ram, Nvidia Geforce4 Ti4200, Avermedia Tv, dvd, cdrw, scanner epson Perfection 1200U (usb), printer epson stylus 760 (usb), printer hp laserjet 4L parallel, creative 128b sound card, cable-modem 128 kb/s, Logitech wireless mouse. Ip masquering to conect the laptop (eth0 and eth1 presents). Results: everythin instaled (even the scanner). Applications runing faster than under 9.0. Fonts fantastic!, OpenOffice looks great with antialising even on the menu text! B) Toshiba Satellite 4090XCDT, 191Mb Ram, Cyber 9525 video card, sound card maestro 2, eth0 pcmcia. Results: everything installed but not the included windomed (detected but, of course, not module). Video card well installed, but screen as one Toshiba p&p and not full screen avalaible (changed by one generic SVGA and full screen now runing ant 1024x728 16bpi). Internet installed, cups remote printers accesible. Great the video driver, for the first time in this laptop I can play Clanbomber without givin a white screen, moreover: I can run xine and watch video cds and avi films without problems (this never happened before!, thanks XFree86 4.3! :-)). Fonts wonderfulls! great appareance under gnome and under kde. More applications run faster than under 9.0. Just acpi I don't know if it is possible activate in this laptop; also I had some problems with supermount after a bad lecture of a cdrw, but after restart I haven't had any problem. Conclusions: How could I wait until today to install 9.1 in the laptop?; I have several classes to give using the laptop and presentations wit OpenOffice and I was afraid about the results, so this afternoon, after finishing my last clase, I started the installation. Greg, Don't you think there are lots of things rare about Mandrake downloadas: 1) No 9.1 avalaibles after a week with the distribution closed. 2) Cooker impossible to create goods isos 3) Now cvs.mandrakesoft.com down. Re: [Cooker] Re: Re: When??
Warkly I am according with Greg, at least a message about what the problems are and the date of isos avalaiblity ought to be done as a deference to the mandrake users. Also if there are problems, preorder offers to members club shouldn't have be done immediately!. I preordered one but now I am wondering if the release will see the light anytime :-( Moreover, I ordered the mandrake guide book on february 28th and still it hasn't arrived to me. It seems the delivery of mandrake products is still working as it was before: awfull. Haven't you changed the delivery department? I think those things are damaging seriously Mandrake, specially the silence, and some potential users could be reluctant to use it. > AFAIK it is in the hand of the marcom dep now and should be OK for next > week. -- Francisco Alcaraz Ariza Departamento de Biología Vegetal Universidad de Murcia E-30100 Murcia España (Spain)

[Cooker] When the isos will be avalaible?
I had a recent cooker as a second system in my hard driver, but the cooker downloaded yesterday gave me lots of problem (the installation were looking for an old kernel file and some more not found packages; probably due that the scripts were still not updated). Now I am runing 9.0, but I need 9.1 to make good looking pf files using LaTeX files (the pdf fonts looks ugly when I compile a file, but under 9.1 there were very good!). At the moment I haven't seen a final 9.1 in any mirror, neither the mirrors starting to download the isos. So, will be the isos avalaibles soon or must I install the old cooker runing I had? (from two mondays ago) Thanks in advance for the comments. -- Francisco Alcaraz Ariza Departamento de Biología Vegetal Universidad de Murcia E-30100 Murcia España (Spain)

Great! I tryed to update cooker yesterday but I had lots of problem and errors in the cds created, probably due to the last update packages. I can't wait to see the isos on the mirrors. [Cooker] 9.1 comming?
I have removed the last bug I had for 9.1 (^_^) I think 9.1 is ready to come. I will be a great distributions, the Mandrake team has worked very well, draktools look pretty well and now seems that all are runing (even my digital camera has been instaled throughout a line in the fstab about usb-storage media). I hope Mandrake could survive to its finnancial problems, there has been a great activity the last month (new releases, a book, .. Anyway, I have the cooker from last mondey with some updates packages, so it is practically the real 9.1, but I am still nervous waiting for it. (^_^) Happy for Mandrake 9.1, :-( sad because it seems that sooner millions of irakies will probably be fighted by the war. [Cooker] Forget war and boicots and things about when 9.1 will be downloadable
Well, After all this discussion about war, USA against France, the names of all the Bushes family, the boicot to France products, I thin is the moment to make the great questions about Mandrake: When will be finallly avalaible the 9.1? Will have the Mandrake Club members any special server to download? When boxes will be avalaibles in Mandrake Store? Those are the reals important things in this list (of course, also bugs correction). -- Francisco Alcaraz Ariza Departamento de Biología Vegetal Universidad de Murcia E-30100 Murcia España (Spain)

Re: [Cooker] Re: War
Of course, Guy!, Certenly the brother of Jorge Bus, gobernator of Florida, said when came to Spain two weeks ago that he was very glad to visit "the Spanish Republic...". This must be a genetic problem of the Bus family, how doesn't remember that G. Bus didn't know the name of the President of Russia in a interview during the electoral campaign? Well, the fact is that in Spanish we say "Presidente del Gobierno" or just "Presidente", so I did a direct translation to English. Probably Minister-President is most accurate in English. Anyway, I would like to say two thing: 1) I don't think that American people that would buy Mandrake won't buy it now, because all the American not Windows user were antipatriotic before. If you are a good American, you must use windows, musn't you? 2) In any case, I hate the war. My father was a soldier in the second Spanish Republic. I had to take an English boat to survive in Algeria. 9 years separated from my mother. I had to fight in the Second World War agains Dutchland in the desert of Algeria. After that we have to leave Algeria because the Independece War of that country. We weren't so happy during our two years in France (we were Spanish in fact). And after that, again in Spain, we weren't so happy because the authorities didn't like a Republican and his family. But we were lucky, in other wars there are lot of people dead and that need to leave of their home and country. Definitively NOT TO THE WAR. > Since when has Spain become a republic again??? :-) > (You mean Minister-President??) > > Guy -- Francisco Alcaraz Ariza Departamento de Biología Vegetal Universidad de Murcia E-30100 Murcia España (Spain)

[Cooker] Today cooker: cable conection, shorewall and ip masquering
I have installed the cooker from this morning to analyse if cable conection, shorewall and ipmasquering are runing from a fresh installation. Is difficult to put the results in any bug, I think is better show how they are related. I hope Florin could read this. Those are the results (eth1 conected to cable modem, eth0 for ip masquering conecting my laptop) 1) Net installation fine, tmdns installed. 2) Installing shorewall crashes net, looking in /etc/shorewall/interfaces appear: net ppp+ detect loc eth0 detect loc eth1 detect I had to erase the line for net ppp+ and change the last one putting: net eth1 detect. After "service shorewall restart" I had bot: shorewall and internet runign :-) 3) Ip masquering: from mandrake control center or from drakgw gives me problems: caching-nameserver not installed. Looking for the problem, it arises for conflicts between bind (needed) for caching-nameserver and tmdns. I unistaled tmdns, and then ip masquering was configurated using mandrake control center. But again not internet. Looking again /etc/shorewall/interfaces there were duplicated entries for eth0 and eth1, I erased those not needed leaving: "net eth1 detect masq eth0 detect" Also I had to close the dhcpd service (it gave me fault in the start of the computer, probably due to not find tmdns). Now I have internet, shorewall and ipmasquering runing. Francisco Alcaraz Murcia (Spain)

Easy to answer, because this happen in rc2 with both, tuxracer 0.6.11mdk (from rc2) and tuxracer 0.6.10mdk (from 9.0) runing under rc2 and doesn't happen with any of both tuxracer releases under 9.0. You can run tuxracer under 9.0 without any problem; the rpms of Nvidia are those of the mandrake powerpack. [Cooker] mozilla 1.3 problems
It seems that after the update to mozilla 1.3 in rc1 ShowkwaveFlass.class is not runing anymore, in /usr/lib/mozilla/mozilla-1.3/plugins/ is a broken link. I have used de FlasPlayer rpm from Mandrake club. Do I need other? Francisco Alcaraz Murcia (Spain)
