Re: Re: [Cooker] File size limit exceeded?

another way around it is to setup your user as sudo with
visudo and sudo into
su this way it seems to work. I think this is either a
problem with user
 quotas or security

I just did a fresh install from my "updated at the moment"
cooker mirror, and had the same error message after I
booted the new install. The system also does not allow me to
login as root if I exit from the user login. Being unable to
login as root, or to use su, it makes it kind of difficult
to setup sudo. I had chosen LOW security with my expert
install.

Re: [Cooker] DIALD with KPPP

2000-12-31 Thread James Bradley

Demand dialing is now built into pppd, so diald isn't as
necessary as it was in the past. I've been told that there
is some additional control that can be had with diald, but
I've found pppd with demand dialing to be sufficient. A set
of articles that will get it setup is available at
http://www.mandrakeuser.org, and the page specifically
about demand dialing at

Re: Re: Antwort: Re: [Cooker] Mandrake 7.2 with Mixed SCSI / IDE also: Monitor Problems

2000-11-02 Thread James Bradley

I always write lilo to the install partition, and use boot
manager as the boot loader. This allows me to switch a
drive, reinstall boot manager if it is the first primary
drive, point to the second drive partition that I want
booted, and reboot.

Well it doesn't work until I unplug the IDE drive
and then re-run lilo. If I
then plug the IDE drive back in, and re-run lilo, I
just get the 'Li' and not
  the
Lo again. I have rtfm'ed, to no avail.

the solution to fix this is:

 map-drive=0x80
 to=0x81
 map-drive=0x81
 to=0x80

 drakx should do it though...

Detailed instructions that work (I use them myself many
times) are
 available on www.linux-mandrake.com/en/fupdates.php3.

The MandrakeUsers pages also have a good set of instructions
on kernel upgrading.

strange, didn't the cardmgr find the right module?

If I use the "network.img" disk to boot my laptop, I am
asked if the PCMCIA adapter is needed, and then am given a
list of network adapters that don't work (it appears to be a
list of ISA/PCI adapters). If I use the "pcmcia.img" disk, I
can install everything over the network without any
problems. The cardmgr does find the correct card with one,
but not with the other. (I haven't tried a reinstall in the
past 2 weeks, as my hub died, so my comments are based on an
install from ~2 weeks ago.)

[Cooker] mirror missing images directory

1999-12-24 Thread James Bradley

I was going to burn a CD this morning, after updating my
mirror, but find that the /oxygen/images directory is
missing from the mirror. I didn't look at other mirror
sites, but this might be a big problem. I was at the
rpmfind.net mirror site.
