I started a php script some time ago (last chrismas ?)to build a
mandrake rpm from a pear package name (quite simple as a package is well
described, with dependencies, test files, ...).

That would generate a lot of packages so they couldn't be tested
manually, so the script would have to automaticallay run the test
programs. This could be done quite easily as pear has a command
run-tests to run the regression tests.

I didn't finish because not many people looked interested.

The point is to decide if this is usefull as pear already has commands
to install/update packages.

I agree too.
Time for testing should be longer, as well as time to fix for developpers !
Don't forget we don't do this as our main activity, but on volontary spare
time. So we need more time to react.
The best way is to begin by deciding when you would like to release the new
version, and then back-planify the BETA and RC deadline, putting for example
1 or 2 months of testing between each...

to get used to, its layers are a nightmare to use compared to
potatoshop
Maybe you're right for people that start with photoshop...
I started image manipulation with paint shop pro, each time I tryied to
use photoshop I lost hours trying to do simple stuff. Then I switched to
Linux and since the first time I ran GIMP I achieved what I wanted quite
easily. I really prefer it's user interface.
For the layers, could you explain the problem ?
There is one major thing missing in GIMP : you keep only the result of
filters and cannot modify parameters of the ones applied before. Except
for that, I have no blame for GIMP.

If not, the bug is in the html code. If yes I guess it considers that
you omitted the and creates a (with black backround as

newline so you get a line of text with no character.

humm Guillaume, is the idea of generating an iso image for booting too fool or
complicated, instead of a disquette image ? I mean diskdrake could generate a
bootable iso image which we can use to create a bootable cdrom. IIRC mindi or
mondo already have that feature.

Why not just:
- add the user option to the supermount entry in the fstab so that
we can manage the device from the desktop icon
- add an eject option to the icon as well?

Sorry if this is the wrong product, but rpmdrake doesn't show anyone admitting

/etc/ppp/ip-up is run by ppp when IP traffic starts flowing on an interface.
Part of what the MDK version is supposed to do is run any scripts in the
/etc/ppp/ip-up.d/ directory. But there appears to be an error in line 28 which
keeps this from happening:

if [ -d /etc/ppp/ip-up.d/ -x /usr/bin/run-parts ]; then
/usr/bin/run-parts /etc/ppp/ip-up.d/
fi

The directory is there, and run-parts is executable, but it's not getting run.
I changed this to

if [ -d /etc/ppp/ip-up.d/ ] && [ -x /usr/bin/run-parts ]; then
/usr/bin/run-parts /etc/ppp/ip-up.d/
fi

and it worked fine. In ip-down, the corresponding statement reads

if [ -d /etc/ppp/ip-down.d/ -a -x /usr/bin/run-parts ]; then
/usr/bin/run-parts /etc/ppp/ip-down.d/
fi

so the problem is probably the missing " -a ".

This is not possible as only root can do it if the 'user' option is not
specified in the fstab.

Let's clarify the test:
1. disconnect the USBSD (usb storage device)
2. remove any entry referencing it in the fstab
3. connect the USBSD
4. NOTHING is dynamically created in the fstab ***
5. run harddrake2
6. look at the fstab :
none /mnt/hd supermount
dev=/dev/sdb1,fs=ext2:vfat,--,kudzu,codepage=850,iocharset=iso8859-15 0 0

this is not correct for 2 reasons:
a. only root can unmount it (so if a desktop icon is associated with this
entry it cannot be used to unmount the USBSD FS)
b. since it is a supermount entry for a removable writable device, writes
should be synchronous, thus the sync option is missing or you can loose data
on disconnect

There is a conflict between hotplug and harddrake somewhere ...
hotplug should create a fstab entry upon connect and remove it upon
disconnect.
harddrake should not interfere with this.

Am I wrong somewhere ?

[Cooker] need clarification on dynamic usb storage device and supermount

2003-09-30 Thread Pascal Cavy
The following scenario is implemented in cooker :

1. connect an usb storage device to usb port

2. dynamic creates an entry in /etc/fstab with supermount option - an icon appears on
kde for the device
none /mnt/removable supermount
dev=/dev/sda1,fs=ext2:vfat,--,codepage=850,iocharset=iso8859-15,kudzu 0 0

3. click on this icon to access the usb storage filesystem

4. How do I disconnect cleanly this device from the desktop now that is
automatically mounted ?
I cannot unmount it from the kde icon since the user option is not in /etc/fstab

That RH announce should be a mistake, I realy think it's better if users can
see Mandrake in some stores, not especialy in super market, but in some
computers-stores.
So, only avalable by net and visa : THIS E-STORE IS NOT FOR ME !!!

Hello Guillaume,

how much time is left for me to test this before 9.2 release ?
how do I create an installation image of the most recent cooker (rc2 still had
issues concerning installation that have been fixed since) ? (wiki pointer or
iso on an ftp site I could use to test the upgrading process)

I don't fully agree. All you have to do is clicking on another window (not mozilla)
in the desktop, then click back to mozilla and input areas are fonctionnal again.

Looks a nice compromise to get sure install work everywhere. I vote for

Most users have >=128MB ram, but I don't see us adding features to the
installer to take advantage of the extra ram.
Remember your minimum requirements. Machines which only just make those
requirements are likely to have an older CD-ROM drive, thus we are
likely to find users who have problems if we use 700MB.
What is the difference between having 700MB CDs, and having 3 650MB CDs
and a fourth 150MB CD? It's the same space on the mirror, and it costs
the user only an extra $0.50 (well, that's what CD-Rs cost here). Buying
a new CD-ROM drive for all the < PII machines would cost significantly
more ...
The oldest CDROM drive I got, a cheap 4X from Mitsumi can read 700MB CD.
I bought it while I still had a 486 DX4 100...

And the package has still the same problems :
- you need a XFree buildtree in %{_topdir}/BUILD/XFree86-4.3/ in order

- when XFree is updated you need to reinstall ati.2 package...

For the second point, which is the one really annoying, someone

I agree : Kroupware should stay in cooker not in 9.2
1. There is no automatic mean to import Notes and calendar to Kroupware folders.
2. Going backward is difficult for the same reasons.
3. On one of the cooker machine, I lost all my addressbook while going to kroupware (
I had a backup fortunatly).

2003-09-04 Thread Pascal Cavy
Well I don't know what is to be done here but when using
printerdrake to configure smb printers I noticed the following :

- fax2cups packages are not automatically installed

- symbolic link  /usr/bin/smbclient -> /etc/alternative/smbclient
is MISSING (maybe others are missing too)

[Cooker] Logging out Gnome

2003-09-02 Thread Pascal Terjan
Hi,
When I click on the logout icon in the panel I used to have a dialog box
asking me if I wanted to reboot, shutdown or logout and I could cancel
at this step.

Now I get logued out immediatly with everything killed if I miss another
icon (lock for example) and click on this one. Is this a bug or a
decided change of behaviour ? If it is a bug, wher should I look (gdm,
my conf (create another panel ?)...)

Any suggestion welcome.

[Cooker] kde kcontrol khtml_fonts applet freeze trying to change font selection for internet navigation

2003-09-01 Thread Pascal Cavy
Using latest cooker (as available from broken mirrors), I am unable to change fonts in
kcontrol for konqueror
(process kdeinit: kcmshell khtml_fonts ).

The panel appears OK
When I open a font combo box, only the first font is rendered and the rest of combo
lines is blank.
At the same time, the panel freeze, and focus is frozen too.
To get a usable kde then :
I have to go to a text console with CTRL-ALT-F1,
kill the kcontrol applet
return to KDE ALT-F8
switch virtual desktop using my internet keyboard special key

cam someone test this strange behaviour please ?

when installing package from main, no pb, but when coming to contrib
you have to say yes each time. This is time consuming

Hi

From urpmi --help :
--verify-rpm - verify rpm signature before installation
(--no-verify-rpm disable it, default is enabled)
I guess --no-verify-rpm is what you want :)

Should be in the list like other options (and in bash_completion),
currently you don't find it if you don't know it exists.
