[Cooker] Install bug, vmlinuz symlink on seperate /boot not updated

2002-10-01 Thread Buchan Milne

On a clean isntall, if you had a seperate /boot, and chose not to format
/boot (which is the default), the sylink to vmlinuz is left as it was
before, so you end up booting the previous kernel with no modules
availble. The initd.img link is set correctly.

Unfortunately, this isn't the kind of bug you see in testing on a spare
partition :-( (no seperate /boot).

I did a hard disk install from a fresh rsync this AM (PDT). Couple points

 package selection.

can you tell me each choice you made before the package selection tree? i
can't reproduce..

 2) A couple packages were in (IMHO) obviously wrong groups:
  enlightenment is in Graphical desktop/Other
Should be Graphical desktop/Enlightenment

thanks, fixing.

etherdrake is the only package in Utilities/System
Should be with System/Configuration/Hardware (with the rest of the
  *drake utilities)

strange:

[gc@obiwan /RPMS] rpm -qpi /RPMS/etherdrake-0.6.2-7mdk.i586.rpm
Name: etherdrake Relocations: /usr
Version : 0.6.2 Vendor: MandrakeSoft
Release : 7mdk Build Date: Tue May 9 13:59:09 2000
Install date: (not installed) Build Host: kenobi.mandrakesoft.com
Group : System/Configuration/Hardware Source RPM: etherdrake-0.6.2-7mdk.src.rpm

 3) Before trying to detect a modem, there was no insmod serial, so no
devices were detected. Going back and insmod serial manually before
modem detect works.

 4) Crypto. If I have set up dial-up networking, it should try to bring up
interface ppp0 to accomplish crypto. I suspect that it assumed (even
though I erased the gateway field) that it could try to use eth0 to get
the packages. eth0 belongs to my local net. Internet is still by ppp
:/

 5) File systems. If I toggle 0x85 partition type for extended it cannot
detect partitions inside that for install tree. (this was at the
beginning)

Install was to a ReiserFS.

In the steps immediately leading up to it, I selected an additional
language (UK English), 100% packages, and deselected databases (this
machine doesn't need them). Then it did that in individual package
selection.

Same on my installation, but on the package selection tree it was
Utilities/System *shrug*

Oh, I almost forgot. Did we deliberately stop tailing logs to /dev/tty12?
That was a nice default.

[Cooker] Install bug

2000-01-26 Thread Sam Walker

I have 128MB on my machine. I entered 128 in the requestor for memory
size during the install. There is no mem=XXX statement in lilo. What
it did was put in my scsi, but no memory settings.
