Re: [Cooker] Mandrake 7.2beta3 w/2.2.17 and 3ware 6800
Thank you. It wasn't clear, and I appreciate your answer. So what all besides the vmlinuz-2.2.17-21mdk, assuming I can get it out of the rpm, do I need to copy to this floppy? maybe it isn't clear enough: The custom kernel must contain every driver needed for the installation, not just modules. It must also be less than 700KB to fit on the floppy. Re: [Cooker] Mandrake 7.2beta3 w/2.2.17 and 3ware 6800
I do have one more question though. Is there somekind of limitation, that keeps some modules un-available during install? I could understand a size limitation for a floppy install, but what about the CD install? Jim Fritz wrote: Thank you. It wasn't clear, and I appreciate your answer. Re: [Cooker] Mandrake 7.2beta3 w/2.2.17 and 3ware 6800
I am not sure how to go about this, I have found that the kernel-2.2.17-21mdk.i586.rpm from 7.2beta3 does include the module. But I am not sure why it isn't available during the install; but it isn't as far as I can find. So what all besides the vmlinuz-2.2.17-21mdk, assuming I can get it out of the rpm, do I need to copy to this floppy? Is it possible that the 3w-, some how got left out of the list of modules compiled in. If so how could I go about getting this recified, or possibly creating my own ISO that includes this module? Any help would be appreciated as I am expecting 15 servers next month which will be using 3ware's IDE RAID cards. Solution: Use your own custom kernel together with the floppy image blank.img. The custom kernel must contain every driver needed for the installation, not just modules. It must also be less than 700KB to fit on the floppy. Just create a boot floppy using blank.img by using dd if=blank.img of=/dev/fd0 if /dev/fd0 is your floppy device. Next run mcopy vmlinuz a: on the Linux command line where vmlinuz is the file name of your custom kernel. be carefull to include support for initrd! -- Thanks, Jim Fritz, President FH SoftHouse, Inc. 603 East 16th StreetHolland, MI 49423 Phone: (616) 395-9556 Fax: (616) 395-9557

Or maybe there are already some instructions on using blank.img, that I have not been able to find. I don't mind RTFM, if I can find it.
