[Cooker] Mandrake update install fails with encrypted filesystems

2002-11-15 Thread bcl . man
Hi.

Mandrake update install fails with encrypted filesystems when he checks
installed packages.

You need to suppress encrypted filesystems like

 /dev/hda8 /home2 ext3 encryption=AES128,encrypted 0 0

from /etc/fstab before update

[Cooker] Mandrake Update: offer uninstall option

2002-10-30 Thread Stephane Gourichon
Hello,

It often happens that during a Mandrake Update I discover that one
program installed on my system is actually unneeded. Upgrading it is
useless, but if it is a security threat it should not stay there.

It may be a good idea to have in the Mandrake Update UI an option that
means "don't upgrade this package but rather uninstall it".
So there are three states: upgrade/don't upgrade/uninstall

This would be good for security and handy. Especially, small sites
(small enterprises for instance) with slow connection to the net would
sometimes avoid long and useless downloads to upgrade unneeded software.

[Cooker] Mandrake Update, no dial-up

2001-04-13 Thread Kritifile

I've just downloaded the latest cooker Mandrake Update Robot, and
discovered that it can only be used with permanent connections. A lot of
people still are stuck in the dial-up slow lane, so why isn't there a
way for them to use the automatic update? I'd much rather use it than
downloading packages manually. As long as someone with a dial-up makes
sure they're online at the right time, why can't it be allowed? This is
making all POTS and ISDN users second-class citizens, until permanent
broadband is common, and that's still a long way off in many countries.

Brian,

You are not alone. I purposefully went through the different ways that I
thought made sense to upgrade last night and had no luck. I tried:

* rpmdrake: wouldn't let met add a distribution outside of it's known
Cooker Disk 1 and Cooker Disk 2. It would gather info from a directory
(/cooker/Mandrake/RPMS) or from a Cooker mirror and make a .cz file,
however, I couldn't select that distribution in the _check mark_ screen.

* MandrakeUpdate: would bomb (crash) when setting a mirror.

At this time, I'm rsync'ing Cooker on my fileserver and the rpm -Fvh *'ing
the cooker/Mandrake/RPMS directory. I wish there was a more elegant and
intuitive way to do this, but I can't seem to find it.

Hiya guys,
Thanks for the support. I've added some shell script so that MUR Setup
Wizard would appear in DrakConf with nice icons and stuff. Most of my
beta tester have found that it's stable, with one following exception:

* Both my MUR and DindinX's rpmdrake doesn't support SOCKS because of
curl-lib limitation. However, there is something to know (I just sent an
e-mail to him) about the possibility of adding SOCKS5 support to it:
http://curl.haxx.se/mail/archive/0068.html . I will modify the setup
wizard so that users can know about the limitation.

* I've done several testing and so far I can say there's no bug that I
know of.

Here's the sample report -
http://www.cyest.org/drakupdatetxt/2001-02-25.txt

I will upload the final v0.9 to /incoming tomorrow evening or this
Friday.

Thanks,

[Cooker] Mandrake Update vs. RPMdrake

Are we sure that this is the best way to go for new users? After
checking with some of my friends that are less familiar with Linux,
they prefer the Mandrake Update utility over RPM Drake due to ease of
use. I haven't been able to keep up to date on Cooker so I've been
going strictly based on what I've read here. An update utility cannot
require users to have to go in and hack to get the right "media" set
up if the average computer user is going to be happy with it. =) Now
I might have read something wrong or misunderstood and if I did, my
sincerest apologies. Just trying to keep Mandrake at the top of
everyone's list of things to install. Funny thing... I'm so used to
uploading Mandrake to friends that I wasn't quite sure what to think
when the cable company sent me a letter telling me that if I uploaded
M$'s new blue screen creating software codenamed "Whistler" to anyone
else they would cut off my cable modem! lol

my 2.5 cents..

Re: [Cooker] Mandrake Update Robot 0.7 no longer Beta :-) Weird rpm-4 API

2001-02-11 Thread Prana

Hiya Pixel,
Thanks for the patch for compile.

I have fixed most of the error, except a few of them. It seems rpm-4.0
has a weird API that doesn't have any `rpmdbFindPackage' and
`rpmdbGetRecord'. Since some of the code were taken from grpmi and
Kpackage, then they might not be able to compile too against 4.0, am I
right?

Regarding the following error:
> engine.cpp:719: cannot convert `void *(*) (headerToken *, rpmCallbackType_e, long
>unsigned int, long unsigned int, const void *, void *)' to `void *(*) (const void *,
>rpmCallbackType_e, long unsigned int, long unsigned int, const void *, void *)' for
>argument `2' to `rpmRunTransactions (rpmTransactionSet_s *, void *(*) (const void *,
>rpmCallbackType_e, long unsigned int, long unsigned int, const void *, void *), void
>*, rpmProblemSet_s *, rpmProblemSet_s **, int, int)'

If you see, the argument 2 is HeaderToken *h , which can be stated
"Header h", it's so weird. They change it to const void *h . I have
people wanting this for Mandrake 7.2, that's why. So, I compiled it
under 7.2, besides I only have 1 harddrive, that's why I can't install
Cooker right now.

It seems that gcc-2.96 is more strict about not returning a value for
functions that aren't "void". I fixed the " warning: no return statement
in function returning non-void". So, it won't be a problem anymore.

Also, do you know how to statically link curl-lib into
MandrakeUpdateRobot? When I gave g++ the "-static" arguments, it
complains about not finding references to the defined functions :-(

Thanks,
Prana

[Cooker] Mandrake Update

2000-10-09 Thread Vincent Meyer

Hello,

Just a couple of thought. Managed to borrow a cable modem
connection this weekend - so I think I'm FINALLY almost on the same
page as everybody. Loaded all the updates over a fresh Beta 3 with
only a few problems - so not too bad.

Seems that I can ftp the updates to disk, then use the disk
as the sourse for Mandrake Update and get much faster results than
if I get the direcory online. Any ideas why this is?

Also seems like Update freezes frequently on busy servers
and doesn't restart - even when left for prolonged periods of time.
Is the program logging out of the server and then unable to get
back in because max users exceded or some such?

When finishing an update or if an update bombs, Update
goes back to the server to update the list of packages. With a
slow connection and/or a busy server, this either bombs with an
error message, takes forever, or hangs. Can the package list be
cached somehow?

[Cooker] Mandrake Update with 7.2b1

2000-09-05 Thread Randy McCaskill

Are the patches available on Mandrake Update in the 'Development
Updates' area Cooker or the
beta or are they the same for the moment?

As a side note, I have my graphics card working with XFree86 4.0.1, but
I had to turn the "noaccel" option on which is quiet painful. Not as
bad as the vga driver in 320x200 though.

Thanks,
-Randy

if you put an http mirror in your ~/.mandrake-update it should work.

Why not adding a contrib Mandrake Upgrade apps that
can do upgrade directly from helios to cooker? is it possible? The one with
*official upgrade work so nice!
