I actually don't have a DVD ROM. The Mandrake install won't boot from my primary CD ROM. [Cooker] Problem installing 9.0 rc1
Hello all, I downloaded the latest ISO, and the CD burned with no problems. However once I start in the graphical install I receive the following error: Could not uncompress second stage ramdisk. This is probably a hardware error while reading the data. (This may be caused by a hardware failure or a linux kernel bug) I have no clue what went wrong. I haven't had this problem with any other distros so I'm quite lost. Any help/advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Trevor.

I am trying to install cooker from the network.img install that I downloaded tonight (Jan 30/01) and it fails after getting the second stage at a perl problem. Attached is a photo from vmware that shows the problem. I get the same error installing it on a test machine. Thanks Mike network.gif
[Cooker] problem installing X
I have for the last two days (I update my mirror daily) tried to install cooker using hd.img. I get stuck in the X install stage. It says it can't find the 'XFree86-XFree86-server' rpm. It doesn't matter if I choose 3.3.6 or 4.0.1 (should be 4.0.2 in the dialog btw). I guess the problem is in the file mdkinst/usr/bin/perl-install/install_steps_interactive.pm line 964: $o->pkg_install("XFree86-$server", @l); Johan

[Cooker] problem installing onto /dev/hdb
I installed Mandrake 7.2beta rc onto a system with 3 disks: /dev/hda /dev/hdb /dev/sda I installed onto /dev/hdb1. That is, during the install, I used diskdrak, specifying this mount point: /dev/hdb1 mounted on / (Before I did this, diskdrak showed that the mountpoint for /dev/hda1 was /. But I already had an OS installed on /dev/hda1, and didn't want to clobber /dev/hda1, so I changed this so that /dev/hda1 would be mounted on something else, i.e. /hda1.) The install went OK. But after the install, when I rebooted the system, the LILO prompt stopped at "LI." I had to boot into /dev/hdb1 by using the boot floppy I made. To fix the problem, I had to change /etc/lilo.conf, and add these 2 lines: disk=/dev/hdb bios=0x80 Shouldn't the install have done this for me?

I know it's just an ide at a weird address, ide2=0x180,0x386. I really hope that works in 7.2. -- Regards, Ellick Chan [EMAIL PROTECTED] Sep 1

I really don't understand how any employer in this day and age can force you to use a weak security tool like Outlook. You might want to remind your employer about the recent "I LOVE YOU" virus that spread itself because of Outlook's security inadequacies! I'm curious - how do you use Outlook in Mandrake anyway? Are you running VMware? WINE? GenEric

I'm not Pixel, but I may be able to answer the first question. I'm using Outlook 98 at work myself. I've found that Outlook 98's Organize feature works quite well for this fairly-high-traffic list. I have it configured to automatically move all e-mails that contain "To: [EMAIL PROTECTED]" into a Personal Folder, so that it doesn't clog up my limited Exchange server mail space. I can then browse the Personal Folder and sort by either the Subject field (works great for ongoing conversations) or by Received date (which is how I normally view it when I'm not overloaded with back e-mails). [Cooker] Problem installing
Hi Pixel I have been reading cooker list for a while, i am still a novice but i really like mandrake. I have some questions that i think you can easily answer: 1º What's the best way to read this list, i am using Outlook, it's a MUST where i work, i message arenot linked, i have tried the Mail-Archive page, but i prefer to download all of the messages at once. 2º I have been triyng, not achiving to install MDK 7.1 on a Pentium III 10G 128M the usual stuff, but i allways get error reading package, or segmentation fault error wich are quite anoying. Suprinsingly it install better with less memory (Linux mem=32M), but then i can't use the second CD. I think you guys really do one excllent work, and i am planning to get involved soon as i get to know linux better. Thank's Jorge Costa

I think its because the shared lib .so was moved to -devel-*.rpm but the symbolic link which handles the version number was not. Hmm, why are the .so files in -devel anyway. [Cooker] problem installing gtkhtml
This problem doesnt happen when doing the command a second time with --force. If the .so file has been moved to the -devel package then the call to ldconfig should have moved as well. [root@gamut b]# rpm -Uvh gtkhtml-* gtkhtml ## /sbin/ldconfig: warning: can't open /usr/lib/libgtkhtml.so (No such file or directory), skipping gtkhtml-devel ## -- - Antony Suter ([EMAIL PROTECTED]) "Examiner" openpgp:71ADFC87 - "And how do you store the nuclear equivalent of the universal solvent?"

[Cooker] Problem Installing 20000511
Did a fresh hard drive install of 2511 and had a problem. After everything was installed and it was booting the newly installed Linux, I received an error message stating that "error loading shared library libjpeg.so.62, cannot open shared object". I could not start X as it came up with a libXmu message which is probably associated with the libjpeg message. I then reinstalled previous beta 7.1 and did an update using a hd install of 2511 and all went well. Nev
