Well, I don't think that will help since the rescue kernel boots with
2.4.21-0.11mdkBOOT. The installed kernel is 2.4.21-0.11mdk. It will
complain "can't open /lib/modules/2.4.21-0.11mdkBOOT/modules.dep for
writing". That's obvious since I only have /lib/modules/2.4.21-0.11mdk.

Something is corrupted somewhere but still dunno what :( I also did try
re-install w/ reiserfs (instead of ext3). It will continue to boot using
grub with -o notail option but then it will hangs at "The BackSpace
sends key: ^?".

The weird thing though if I install on vmware, it works fine. Thanks
for the tip aw.

Boot the install cd in rescue mode, ask to have devices mounted, then a
prompt, and try:

# chroot /mnt
# depmod -a

And see what errors you get?

[Cooker] RC2 hangs at Finding module dependencies...

2003-03-07 Thread Larry Nguyen
Hi all,

I'm experiencing an odd issue w/ RC2 on this machine. It's a
PIII-900MHz, Tekram SCSI card with Yamaha CD-RW using Sym53c8x family.
The machine has 3 IDE hard drives. I tried to isntall both /dev/hda3 and
/dev/hdc7. Same problem.

The installation went fine until rebooting it will hang at Finding
module dependencies...Trying switching to diff consoles by using
Ctrl-Alt-F* but got no luck.

I did a search on cooker list and found one almost similar but the issue
was with LVM. I'm not using LVM.

I've been waiting to see if someone has similar issue but haven't seen
any post with the same problem. Probably it's just my machine but dunno
how to get it to boot.

Any tips?

TIA.
