I can load the module NVdriver (ans it is loaded at boot time) but I can't start X, the NVdriver doesn't seem to initialize. At least, that's what my log file tells me. Or go to www.kernel.org, scroll down and they refer to this site as well, it hosts many list archives including lkml. Back to NVidia. Could these two lines be in /etc/modules.devfs by default? No. They have no business here by default. If nVidia does not care for clean installation of there drivers - it is their problem. Mail nVidia. -andrej

If what I wrote si wrong or does not make sense, please tell me and I'll modify it. http://www.nvnews.net/cgi-bin/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topicf=29t=001044 Ah, he done it finally :-) One correction for posted script: if [ -c /dev/.devfsd ]; then # next lines are from original script + one of me sed '/^alias.*char-major-.*NVdriver/d' $confmod $conftmp echo alias /dev/nvidia* NVdriver $conftmp echo alias char-major-$major NVdriver $conftmp mv $conftmp $confmod the sed line should actually be sed -e '/^alias.*char-major-.*NVdriver/d' \ -e '/^alias.*/dev/nvidia.*NVdriver/d' \ $confmod $conftmp You have to remove both of them, do not you? Alexander, it goes into modules.conf as you suggested :-) This guy (rcc) intended to email nVidia as well. Let's hope next release will include sensible installation script. -andrej
[Cooker] broken Nvidia drivers?
Hi, I can't get to work my TNT2 graphic card with the NVIDIA driver (2313 version) with my cooker box. I've rebuilt them from the SRPM provided on nvidia's download page. They install correctly with urpmi and I can see NVdriver when doing a lsmod. But when I want to launch X with the startx command, it doesn't switch to X and goes back to console. The end of the log message is : (**) NVIDIA(0): Option NvAGP 3 (**) NVIDIA(0): Use of any AGP requested (try AGPGART, then try NVIDIA's AGP) (--) NVIDIA(0): Linear framebuffer at 0xCA00 (--) NVIDIA(0): MMIO registers at 0xCE00 (EE) NVIDIA(0): Failed to initialize the NVdriver kernel module! Fatal server error: no screens found I don't quite understand this message because the only difference in XFreeconfig-4 file is the replacement of th nv driver by nvidia and the 'Load glx' and I run X flawlessly with the standard configuration.
