What qt2 version are you running??? I had the same problem when I was
running libqt2-2.2.3-7mdk.i586.rpm... So I simply downgraded to
qt2-2.2.1-3mdk.

Cheers!

Hi,
Once again:
Is this the point that XF86 3.3.6 will be go away because most
X-Stuff (like KDE) don't works proper anymore ?
If no, please give me a hint how to get the KDE works like expected.
I still have no proper working XFConfig for XFree 4.0.* for the TP 770X
( I also discussed this problem on the TP mailing list but without result
until now).

Thx, Udo

I have a Gateway Solo laptop with the Trident Cyber 9397 chip - not DVD
version.

It would not work with xfree401. Complained about a clock rate in the
Gigahertz range. I got Mandrake 7.2 to work with the original xfree400. I
did this by installing 7.x Expert mode and selecting 4.0.1 This of course
failed to run, but then I used the Xinstall.sh from xfree400 to install
xfree400 over the broken 401. Answer "yes" only to those questions
necessary to actually install xfree400, and "no" to **everything** else,
otherwise you'll screw up the fonts amongst other things. Run xconfigurator
and all is well.

As to xfree402 I don't know. I'm trying to install it on a RedHat 7.0
system and it wants ld.so, but even when I give it ld.so it still asks for
it - aren't computers dumb :-).

Since XFree400 works splendidly with the Cyber 9397 I'm loathe to possibly
break this installation until I prove 402.

Hi,
ok, is this the big move to disable XF86 3.3.6 ?
If not then all apps should work also with the old version of X.
My Thinkpad is a
TP 770X which has no "NeoMagic", it has "Trident Microsystems Cyber
9397DVD"

In the past I tryed several times to get XFree86 working but always
without acceptable success. This means some times I got it to run but
only with very bad quality and very unstable. This is the current state!

Is there anyone out there who can give me a real working XF86Config
to get XFree86 4.0.2 working or at least a link to a nice web-page ?

Thanks in advance
Udo

The version of KDE which you are trying to run is demanding XFree86
4.0.2, which provides the RENDER extension. As is recall, the ThinkPads
like using the NeoMagic video chipset, which is supported by XFree86 v4
(driver manpage: http://www.xfree86.org/4.0.2/neomagic.4.html). Try your
luck: install 4.0.2 and if the video driver is unhappy, try disabling
various hardware accelerations to make it go.

Re: [Cooker] Xfree-problems

I use the the XFree 3.3.6 because my system is a Thinkpad
and I don't got the XFree 4.0 working like expected.
Anyway, until now all works well,
so I think somethink must be changed or there is a new bug.

rpm -qa |grep XFree

XFree86-100dpi-fonts-4.0.2-1mdk
XFree86-SVGA-3.3.6-19mdk
XFree86-ISO8859-2-75dpi-fonts-1.0-14mdk
XFree86-server-4.0.2-1mdk
XFree86-4.0.2-1mdk
XFree86-75dpi-fonts-4.0.2-1mdk
XFree86-libs-4.0.2-1mdk
XFree86-server-common-3.3.6-19mdk
XFree86-xfs-4.0.2-1mdk
XFree86-glide-module-4.0.2-1mdk

By the way this prob is not only when starting KDE,
it happens on all window-managers.

I'd say that either kde is compiled to use some features
which are missing from the X server you are using,
or that your X config isn't correct...

Maybe check the server against the hardware?
