Yeah that would do it, i'll add a 'Requires: XFree86 >= 3.3.5'

loadup fbcon, start an mp3, exec 'find / -mount'. You won't be waiting

nope, probably when it's final.

Try renameing the glx.so, if it doesn't lock untill you try and run gears.

Ok I will do that and send the output one sec.. one thing is I noticed it said it was
a module for 3.3.3 not 3.3.5. I am using a older cooker though so that could be my
fault.

Yes agpgart uses "DMA=AGP" while mem hack is "DMA=memaddress"

as soon as I update the system I will try again.. oh. btw is there agpgart part for
the new 2.2.14 kernel??

I saw parts of that one the glx list, what bios settings and all that
stuff, maybe somebody else out there can finger it out.

Nope, the kernel patch is all that needs done by the enduser. I guess we
could get Jeff to audit it and Chmouel to include it if he ok's it.

I'll go you one better, throw in an isa sb64 and the only thing thats
gonna happen is the video DMA request untill it's done.

I get about 300 fps using the dma hack but I can not use the glx-mga driver that
came with cooker, it simply dose not work. I had to download mesa 3.2 , cvs glx
and compile and install myself. I can NOT get agpgart or newagp to work with my

Is there agpgart in cooker? if so I did not see it lol

Unfortinitly haveing a K6-2 (acording to the glx list) I can not run anything
like quake3 and access the system. DMA through the pci causes severe CPU spiking
to the point access to the modem seeses to function.

So untill someone get's aga working corectly I am screwed. lol;)

I've got a millenium 2. I beleive the latest cards don't run very well
on
an alpha (read the horror stories in the axp-list over at redhat). Be
sure
to stick the card into the primary PCI bus, otherwise even a M2 won't
work.

Yeah, seems they've rawhide installed on the main partition.
Give me an hour and we'll see what happens, I'll try a chroot install
first, if that doesn't workout i'll try not to burn it completely to the

Can you even use a Matrox or TNT, on an alpha?

Re: [Cooker] (cooker) Still a few errors

1999-12-05 Thread Stefan van der Eijk

Well, if I may say (I'm probably more of a bother than helping here...),

Mesa doesn't compile correctly on my alpha. I think the problem is that
the alpha kernel tree (asm dir) doesn't have mtrr.h

This is what it looks like:

gcc -mieee -Wall -Wno-uninitialized -O3 -fexpensive-optimizations
-fomit-frame-pointer -finline-functions -funroll-loops -DNDEBUG
-DMGA_LOG_ENABLED -DGLX_LOG -DHW_ACCEL -DDYNAMIC_MODULE -DXFreeXDGA
-DMESA_PATCH -DGLXEXT -DXDEBUG -DMESA31 -DBUILD_COLOR_TABLE_EXT=1
-DGLX_MODULE -I../.. -I../../serverglx -I../../../include
-I/usr/src/RPM/BUILD/Mesa-3.2dev/include

-I../../../xc-headers/programs/Xserver/include
-I../../../xc-headers/include/fonts -I../../../xc-headers/include
-I/usr/src/RPM/BUILD/Mesa-3.2dev/src -I/usr/X11R6/include -D_XSERVER64

OK. If we could have an arechitecture selection in the .spec file for
compiling the
glx stuff, then I think it would work. On the alpha (and other weird
platforms) we
don't compile the non-supported stuff...

Could this be a start: ??

cd glx-%{glx_ver}
if arch alpha alphaev56
./autogen.sh --with-chipset=both --with-mesa=../ --enable-extra
--enable-agp --prefix=/usr/X11R6 --sysconfdir=/etc
--target=%{_target_cpu}-mandrake-linux-gnu
endif

if arch i386 i486 i568 i686
./autogen.sh --with-chipset=both --with-mesa=../ --enable-extra
--enable-mtrr --enable-agp --prefix=/usr/X11R6 --sysconfdir=/etc
--target=%{_target_cpu}-mandrake-linux-gnu
endif

now is a really really good time for mesa complaints, below is a list of
all i know that need relinked (at the very least)

I also need feedback on software, glx-tnt, and glide functionality.
The glx-mga module cranks 450-500fps out of gears with the "agpgart"
module.

Don't forget todo this, I did it sucked big time (make sure initscripts
is installed while your there, mine weren't)

Pixel, the X test trys to use the font server..

shift-tab halts the timer.

This an old problem i introduced in the installer while makeing the
install.log look pretty (not all the info pages got installed in %post's)
Apparently pixel was sick of the hack-around he did for it originaly and
he's tackleing the real problem :)

no initscripts, and /boot/vmlinuz symlink, answers above :)

Right,

I had the same problems (added to the new Mesa compatibility...)

At the end of the install, you have to go to the F2 console and create a
symbolic link to vmlinuz.

It should then finish the install (with an error message for an unavailable
X font). BUT... it won't boot because it doesn't find the inittab and there
is no prompt and no delay.

At boot time, press the right shift key, which gives you the login prompt.
Then type 'linux init=/etc/inittab', and it should boot.

run lilo correctly and it should go.
