Re: [Cooker] About ADSL Support (?)
Hi dams , I've tested with france alcatel for the orkit modem that works as pptp . it doesn't work , when using the howto that I've sent earlier on the list sometimes it works (on certain configuration) aand sometimes note how could I help you get it works . Note I've no ADSL modem I test all this on friends computers . So you could add the entry Israel Uhm...since this is an International conference I thought I should chime in here. I've installed two Alcatel modems here in Quebec and a standard pppoe install makes them work. I don't think you can make this determination by modem brand name. This doesn't negate anything you've said about Alcatel modems in Israel of course. You're right, it was bad to determine the protocole to use with the land and the modem type. The problem is : how can a newbie answer to the question "use pppoe or pptp?" If you have suggestion... But I agree that it's bad to ask the land and the modem type.

I thing so , how to configure it since : my friend installed Mandrake telling it to use PPPoE and it doesn't tell him to enter the hostname of the VPN (10.0.0.138 RELAY_PPP1) and for the moment they haven't fix dns (automatique) ... and it doesn't works so for the moment .

I know now the method is pptp I doesn't know how to install it simply (but someone tell me to download a targz) I wanna know the simple way ;-) I'm not sure how applicable this is to your situation but when installing DSL under v7.2 you're asked whether you're in "France" or "other countries". This seems too consistent with what others here have suggested to be coincidence. Wish I could tell you something about what the France option is installation but I've never had need to select it.
