Definitely same here. Kernel 2421-2 dies with panic during boot, shortly after scanning the IDE devices, and the partial stack trace I get on my screen has some inode functions in it, which makes me believe it's either a problem in the ext2 layer or other lower level ide layers. All previous versions of the kernel worked just fine, so it must be a change done here which causes it to fail (maybe omitting the stack frame pointer wasn't a good idea, perhaps some processes depend on it). Is there a way I could collect the stack trace after I hard-boot my computer when it panics (it happened to me on my Linux laptop)? So I could send you guys some more clues into this. It's not fixed Tested on a laptop with Intel BX/ZX chipset with 512MB of RAM, and on my nForce2 system with 1GB of RAM... It hangs on Andrea's VM... at the same point as before: delta_nr_cache_pages... Booting standard kernel allows the use of Alt-SysRq after the crash... Enterprise kernel hangs solid ... only thing that works is Reset button :-( As for reference the kernel2.4-marcelo-2.4.21-2mdk works on both systems... Thomas

Anyway, if you have a currently-working non-default-named (ie linux/linux-nonfb/linux-smp etc etc) image, installing a new kernel won't mess with it, so you should be able to boot your current kernel without problems.
