Hmm, well, that's not exepected if you neither have OOo -8mdk nor
fonts-ttf-japanese from today. ;-) So, that's probably because you have by
chance Kochi Gothic fonts already installed.

Bonobofying OpenOffice would actually be a step in that direction, since you
wouldn't want to have to download 100-odd megabytes of program before you could
start using that fabulous new ASP-based Office service.

Your darn straight they've going to promote it. They want to sell the
servers that it'll run off. Sorry no sliders or screenshots. He couldn't
even tell me when that stuff was going to be included in OpenOffice.

I was there at the confernece too. All I saw was that Sun had a demo of
Star Office and were promoting that they GPL'd Star Office under the
OpenOffice.org site.

If there was anything more than that I missed it.

Or it could mean that the Bonobo bits done for the demo were a gross hack, the
ugliness of which was temporarily hidden under a powerful CPU and bucketsful of
RAM, and 6 months may well be October 2000... (-:

Mandrake, go for "KOffice included" !
It is absolutely usable for general office apps (like prepare a fax, print it
out and ask secretary to send it :-)

| > would be a great advantage for Mandrake IMHO.
|
| It is not possible to include it in 7.2, since we are in deep frozen

Also not clear for me: what type of browser it is suggested to use as
standard part of OpenOffice? Mozilla? Netscape 6?
Then we again around 6 months from now.

Who knows, may be in 6 months Microsoft will be ready with own Linux... Or at
least with IE?

Better not to plan future now, "Let it be!" for KDE2/Koffice!

StarOffice != OpenOffice

All code of StarOffice could not be licensed under (L)GPL because Sun
was not owner of some components (Unix Printing, Non-Office filters,
Spell checker...)

We'll have to wait until Gnome-print is integrated to provide printing
under Linux
