All I was saying is netatalk is included. I really don't have the time to create additional documentation, that should be what the netatalk authors do. It's not installed by default, we don't install any servers by default afaik. I built the package and tested it here, /etc/atalk/atalkd.conf is the default, with no interface defined, and it doesn't segfault when run. It accepts guest logins and password logins. I did not get a chance to test printing. Re: netatalk
Is there some source of mandrake documentation that we have all missed? What page of the documentation is this command given? I guess we have all been out of contact with that page. Thanks for opening our eyes? Is there anything else about implementing netatalk, are is this everything? I have searched the Mandrake site for this kind of information on netatalk and I guess I just wasn't smart enough to find it. Most netatalk info (on the net in general) is dated and difficult to understand for most of us. RE: netatalk
Sorry, actually what I meant was that it be part of the standard auto install distribution for newbies. I believe that linux will be helped to become more mainstream as the installs and the tools become easier to use. > -Original Message- > From: Ben Reser <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>@SUN > Sent: Friday, February 15, 2002 01:57 > To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] > Subject: Re: netatalk > > > On Fri, Feb 15, 2002 at 01:08:27AM -, AllanL wrote: > > Could the 8.2 also include netatalk > > If you'd take the time to look it's already there in cooker-ppc. > http://mirror/linux/mandrake/Mandrake-devel/cooker/ppc/Mandrake/RPMS/ > > -- > Ben Reser <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> > http://ben.reser.org > > What difference does it make to the dead, the orphans, and the homeless, > whether the mad destruction is wrought under the name of totalitarianism > or the holy name of liberty and democracy? - Ghandi > <>
RE: netatalk
Sorry, what I meant was that it would be available with the distribution so a newbie could have it working out of the box, and while I am at it, maybe we could fix the setup file (not near my machine now but I think it was a atalk file) so that it defaulted to ethernet 1, rather than segment faulting. > -Original Message- > From: Stew Benedict <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>@SUN > Sent: Friday, February 15, 2002 02:30 > To: '[EMAIL PROTECTED]' > Subject: Re: netatalk > > > > Where you been man? ;^) > > [stew@powerbook-cooker stew]$ rpm -qip /RPMS/netatalk-1.5.1.1-1mdk.ppc.rpm > Name: netatalk Relocations: /usr > Version : 1.5.1.1 Vendor: MandrakeSoft > Release : 1mdk Build Date: Sun 20 Jan 2002 > 10:44:05 AM EST > > > > Stew Benedict > > -- > MandrakeSoft OH/TN, USA http://people.mandrakesoft.com/~sbenedict/ > PPC FAQ: http://www.linux-mandrake.com/en/demos/PPC/FAQ/ > > <>

Typically DOS formatted Zips are on sda4, MacOS, I don't know, but the 1st partiton is usually the map, with a few more for drivers. Try this sync sync(just in case) /sbin/pdisk -l /dev/sda and look for the data partition (the big HFS one) > Any idea where to go next (zip won't work on my desktop either) > > Finally, the rpm blues are getting me down, nearly every package I am > interested in fails due to broken dependencies. I'm speaking from a VFAT and IDE background here, but try mounting /dev/sda4 instead and see if it works. Disk partition #4 is where Iomega puts the VFAT file system by default on VFAT-formatted discs...try other numbers if that doesn't work. If it's an empty disc, you can always reformat it to your liking. I tend to keep ext2 filesystems on mine. --ryan.
