[Coworking] Re: Tax Question
Standard stuff: http://www.irs.gov/publications/pM 535/ch08.html#d0e5315 This was very handy in my previous startup as we were able to break even claiming $5k in startup, thus no income tax. The take-home on this is that if you (anyone reading this) hanker to start a business, a very good first task is to get your accounting in order and run your business as a business before you hang out your shingle. I do apologize for not being clear earlier or looking up my source before posting. If you start a business, you may deduct up to $5000 of startup costs in the year that you launch it. That $5000 is reduced by anything over $50,000. Whatever isn't deductible in that year can be amortized over 15 years beginning the month you launched your business. Startup costs can include advertising costs, training wages and consultant fees. Sorry guys. Depreciation applies to certain physical assets, and the schedule varies depending on the asset. By all means find a CPA to discuss the issues specific to your state. [Coworking] Re: Introduction
I have to say - I posted this and then went on vacation -- half expecting to get a few replies here there. I come back - and MAN there's a treasure trove of great stuff here. This is really a great board -- and I appreciate all the great guidance. I've started collecting info during our process -- and will be sure to post it out for others to learn from as well (whatever form it takes). I'm going to look into starting the PBWiki for our local area -- and at least try to document as I go the process. Again -- thank you, thank you! -kb On Mar 26, 9:33 am, Kelly Brown [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: Hello, My name is kelly brown. I recently did an interview with Susan Evans @ Office Nomads for my blog / podcast (www.small-business-guru.com-- if you're interested in listening). She's got some great insight that i found very helpful. Anyway -- I'm now very excited about opening a space locally in North East Ohio. As I research this more and more - I'm interested in finding out as much as i can about the demographics of the co-working contingent. NEO is not NY it's not Seattle -- so while I and a couple of friends would love to open one up -- i'm not sure what the baseline is for average salary, square feet allocated / charged per month, how may people rent monthly vs. daily, how big of a city population would support a 30 person+ sized facility. All that stuff -- i've got tons and tons of questions and plan to scour the forums. I'd LOVE speak or exchange emails with anyone who's opened their own facility and get the 'low down.' Ohhh - I also read i should post personal info about myself so here it is: I've been writing about entrepreneurial issues for a little over a year now for my blog (Small Business Guru). i just kind of stumbled on Susan through Biznik as I do regular interviews with successful business owners. i love talking and learning about business. My background is as a CPA -- i'm currently an executive (COO / Marketing Director) w/a small publishing firm in Canton Ohio. I've been married for 6 years to wonderfully hot chick named Heidi. Despite my girly name - I'm a dude. We have a daughter (well her daughter - my step daughter) and two dogs -- Bubba Chip. I'd love to get a co-working facility going locally provided i can get enough critical mass to support it. -kb --~--~-~--~~~---~--~~ You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups Coworking group. [Coworking] ciao from italy - cowo milano
hi, after a few weeks of lurking, we finally got together our little coworking project in milano, italy. first of all, my thanks to this community for the inspiring views and insightful comments. I was about to write to introduce myself sooner, but then I understood I'd better listen for some time. at this point, we've opened our doors and started our blog (http:// coworkingmilano.wordpress.com if anybody feels like dropping by). we also treated ourselves with a smiling logo. the office is an open space rather comfortable (140 sqm), where we actually work as a three-person team on the advertising communication field (monkey business, that's us). we offer weekly/monthly deals on 5 desks with mac workstations, couches, coffee, meeting area etc. the neighborhhod is pleasent, situated on the east border of the city, in an area of refurbished lofts and art galleries called Lambrate. while we look at other coworking experiences around the world for insipiration and hints, we are about to test whether this working solution appeals to fellow italians. as far as we know, there's only one other coworking operating in our country, in rome (@7th floor). good news is that the italian art directors club, the national advertising creative association, just mentioned today our initiative in the club's blog: http://blog.adci.it/cercate-ufficio-perche-non-provare-il-co-working in our blog we are tryiong to link all the coworking around the world, so I'll be happy to include whoever's initiative, just drp an email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] that's all for now, I'll try to give updates on what happens in our cowo. ciao! max --~--~-~--~~~---~--~~ You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups Coworking group. [Coworking] Re: New Work City
Looks fantastic! Love the teaser. On the sponsorship you might look into companies who need remote space for their workers. They might be up for a dedicated space. We have a similar partnership program with companies for back up office space. -felicity chapman CubesCrayons blog: www.svmoms.com, www.youronramp.com local: www.cubesandcrayons.com Bay Area Coworking Meetup On Apr 2, 10:15 pm, Tony Bacigalupo [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: We're still sort of figuring that out, but basically it's a way for people/companies that want to support our community to do so in a way other than desk memberships. Sponsoring a desk essentially ensures that, by making the appropriate contribution, the cost of at least one desk is covered for the year. This decreases the load on the space, makes it easier for us to stay open and keeps costs under control. We're still nailing down what they'd get in exchange, but it would be some fairly simple recognition online and somewhere in the space. Beyond that, not sure. Still fleshing it out.
