Re: [Coworking] Aurora / Richmond Hill Ontario Coworking

2010-09-05 Thread rachel young
Hi neighbour!

Glad to hear there might be a space up that way.

I'd be happy to come up and chat with you, and when you're ready to open I
have some Thornhill/Richmond Hill/Markham folks I can send your way that
would rather not do the commute down to our downtown Toronto space.

Hi All,

My name is Neil Raj, and im with AdCommunal.com, a performance based
ad network located in Richmond Hill, Ontario, Canada. We are
currently looking at moving into a bigger office, and the idea of
using part of our office space as a coworking space came up, mostly
because a lot of our clients are independent one man operations.

While we want to focus on our core business, and the fact that we know
nothing about running a coworking space, the idea behind this would be
more for camaraderie and collaboration. Has anyone had a similar
experience and if so, have you been successful?

Thoughts?

Best, Neil

[Coworking] Numbers published

2010-09-05 Thread Alexander Lang
Hi list,

sorry to spam you again with another blog post, but once again I think
this might be interesting. I have blogged our development of
coworkers, revenue and attendance: http://co-up.de/2010/09/05/annual-report.html

I'm hoping others will do that, too. I'm not aware of any spaces who
have published their numbers - if there are any please let me know.

Cheers,
Alex

IndyHall just released their numbers and were published at GigaOm.
Search the group for that thread, as Alex provided the raw numbers.

Re: [Coworking] Numbers published

2010-09-05 Thread Alex Hillman
Alex,

Awesome job, and nice infographics!

We shared some historical numbers on our blog as well as on GigaOm Pro last
month. My plan is to, by the end of this year, have a digest of our 2010
stats as well!

http://www.indyhall.org/blog/2010/08/06/indy-hall-by-the-numbers/

We've got some students working from Indy Hall this fall that I'm hoping I
can put some other research projects on, including some industry
representation, income growth, spending patterns, and some other interesting
statistics we can pull from our membership.

I highly encourage others to share any numbers that they are willing or able
to. Individual spaces' reports (including ours) are not nearly as useful as
when we can begin to aggregate data and look for patterns.

As part of our coworking research, we've developed a draft list of US
coworking facilities.  The list (Excel file) can be found at:
 http://db.tt/jNpKyiV

As of the end of August, we had found 224 office-based coworking
facilities in the US.  We also found 28 shared hacker/maker spaces
  that met our coworking criteria.

We included a facility if: (1) the facility self-identifies as
providing coworking space or equivalent; (2) it offers a range of
membership options (daily, weekly, monthly, etc.) consistent with
traditional coworking spaces (does not need to provide all); (3) it
offers some form of community space and/or activities (this is
subjective based on our assessment); (4) coworking appears to be a
important part of the facility offering (subjective);  (5) the
facility is active; (6) the facility caters, at least in part, to
those using the space for work-related purposes.

As I mentioned in a prior post, this task proved harder - and more
subjective - than we expected.  Although this estimate meets our
research needs, the list is likely not complete and there may be
disagreements with facilities we included or excluded.

We would welcome any and all feedback and in particular we are looking
for facilities we may have missed.  My email is
  sk...@emergentresearch.com or just post here.

The list is not copyrighted.  Please keep in mind it is a draft.

  Thanks for all the help.
