I'm interested in seeing how this group responds next time anyone from
Liquidspace or loosecubes or turnstone chimes in. Certainly you all don't
believe that their involvement here isn't to promote their product or

Hey all not trying to go to war with our dangerously awesome
Alexjust saying what is good for some ought to be good for everyone.
Definitions of spam are not necessary. Pitching a product to sell to
coworking space founders in this forum is just that...whether sneaky or
blatant. Asking for forgivness rather then permission is not responsible.
This isn't the first time. I remember when your webinar was $350 WOW!
Your invitation to the MasterClass is already out. Hope you have a blow
out event! The poor guy asking about space design who got his head bitten
off simply shed the light on the double standard in this forum. Kat

2012-09-16 Thread TCS
Both your previous email, Alex (eating a bit of humble pie) and this one are
testaments to your gift of giving. I can attest to the gleaning we've done
from the community over the last 2 years and yes, even pestered Alex one on
one. We all owe Alex and those others who have blazed a red hot trail for us
to follow, yet have not left us in the dust. Thanks Alex and other coworking
mentor/leaders for continuing to reach back and pull us up the mountain. It's
the same heart and mind that I have, even in our first year, been able to share
ideas, strategies, etc with up and coming spaces. One is opening next month in
Stratford, Ont. They have been able to see the Ontario coworking spaces come
around them with support and wisdom. The "business" of coworking can sometimes
get the spotlight, but what's truly amazing about this group is the dedication
to the values. It's really a reflection of how we should live our lives.
Doing life together. Now that's something worth getting up for!

Re: [Coworking] Re: Single Question on Coworking Space Design

2012-09-16 Thread Alex Hillman
Kat,

I'm not leaving this group behind as a contributor or a leader, I'll always be
here to help in every way that I can. That's my #1 priority.

The course is a supplement for people who want more. Trust me that there's no
hidden agenda here, it's that simple.

Like many others on this list, I absolutely love helping people, and will give
until my face falls off in a public forum that benefits more than just the one
person who's asking.

What's changed over the years of giving advice is that a lot of people have
started seeking one-on-one advice. As often as possible, I've given that away
for free as well. But a few things have happened:
Not everybody is at the same level coming in. Some people need a LOT more
guidance beyond "advice", into the realm of consulting.
Many people ignore free advice.
I repeat myself a lot. A LOT.

The reason for the price of the course is because it's a TON of hours of hands
on work with the individuals who enroll, and there are now hundreds of hours
that have gone into building a teaching tool. Even ignoring the time that it
took to build the course, the total hands on time from me over the four weeks
is being sold at a fraction of my consulting rate.

All of that said, I'm not leaving anybody behind now that I've built this
course, or suggesting that you can't kick ass without taking it. MANY people
were already kicking ass well before the beginning of September.

But many aren't, and if they want the extra help on a fast-track, I can provide
an option that's sustainable and productive for them AND for me. Win win. If
someone takes the class and feels like they didn't get their money's worth,
I've screwed up somewhere else.

Everyone still has to choose the option for themselves, there's no way that I
will try to force people to buy something they don't need.

The most likely outcome of me having this course is that I'll have MORE advice
that I can openly share on this list because I now have a great framework for
creating new, better answers to questions and problems about coworking &
community building.

BOTTOM LINE:
This list is for SHARING OPENLY and learning from each other, that's always
been my personal priority, and that's not going away.

I made a mistake by sending direct sales emails to a list where I should have
known better, and thanks to some friendly reminders, I won't be doing that any
more and I'm genuinely sorry for my mis-step.

None of the good stuff is going away, it's only getting better.

This kind of "you don't get to" conversation doesn't serve any of us. We
look to you for leadership ALEX and we have given you that role and yet
your $1,200 plus class seems untouchable to some of us needing real support

We do allow coworking vendors on this forum (liquidspace, turnstone, etc) as
their involvement and engagement is valuable to our discussion. Jerome, even

You must be new to this forum so I will clarify. This email platform is not for
sales solicitations. Your twitter handle description explicitly is seeking
clients, "We assist in planning and designing CoWorking and Collaborative

Your posting does push your question and sales agenda to every recipient here.
Perhaps if your twitter feed had more than one post we could at least give you
