[css-d] CSS Sheet and Links List Do-able?

2007-09-23 Thread Meg Fuller
Greetings, I Am looking for a way to take and have a links list on a css that I
can just change the css and have our 50 + pages changed instead of changing
each one. I am the coordinator for several GenWeb pages. I think I saw the code
somewhere before but am not sure where. Is this doable and where could I find
info on how to do?

  Thanks in advance.

[css-d] I/E Problem

2007-09-23 Thread grovesdavid
Hello,

I've a problem with I.E. 6 here:

http://www.linkhomes2000.co.uk/index.php

If you look at the small form (under the main one) in left bar, you will see
the first select field is dropping down. I've tried everything I can think
of, including cleared cache, but no joy.

The only CSS involved here is: http://www.linkhomes2000.co.uk/css/forms.css

And it's forms3, the last one in the sheet. Offer this as there are more
than one sheet loaded, and it's a little untidy at present.

Kind Regards

DG)

You can change the _visual appearance_ of the links list using CSS. You
just need to learn the basics of CSS for that; the details depend on how
you wish to style the appearance.

You cannot change the links list itself, by adding, removing, or changing
the links using CSS. Style sheets are not for content management.

Hello,

You can't do this with CSS or HTML (If I understand you correctly) You will
need to use php:
?php include('file-path/file-name'); ?, must be an ASP one as well, but
don't know ASP.

IE6 doesn't respect any declared dimensions. If the content takes up too
much space, IE6 will expand its container.

The content is mainly too large in that part of the page because of IE6'
white-space bug is affecting the links in lists construction.
This can be cured by adding a 'hasLayout' trigger to the links...

#left_corner a, #right_corner a {height: 1%;}

...which will improve things.

It ends flush with the base line of the second line of text on my mac
  (safari, firefox and opera)

Not anywhere near such a line-up in any of my browsers. Font size can't
be relied upon for accurate spacing of anything on a web page, and my
browsers respect a 'minimum font size' larger than what you have declared.

The use of absolute positioning and fixed dimensions for main parts of
your pages, makes dis-alignment and overlapping inevitable if/when they
are subjected to any degree of font resizing in any browser.

Checked in Mozilla, Firefox, Opera, IE/win etc.

All I can see is traces of an optical illusion, caused mainly by contrast.
The image on that page is also resized in browsers, which often
strengthen such effects since browsers are generally not good at
resizing images.

A validity check of HTML and CSS is called for.

A font resizing test in browsers reveals lack of clearing on #content.
Content get hooked up on nav-links at resizing - pushing the columns
around.
Happens at first load in Moz/Fx at my end, because I override all too
small text on all sites with a 'minimum font size' in my browsers.

I'll also mention the rather bad practice of using spacers like
pnbsp;/p. Spacing can, and should, be controlled in CSS by
using margins and/or paddings, or other means of offset.

#nav is floated left, used to be you needed a clearing element after
#content. Some useless thing like a br / or hr / with a class of
clear with a property of clear: both.

Those days are over, apply overflow:auto; to #main-text.

If I'm not mistaken, this guy came up with it first http://pmob.co.uk/

I'm still too groggy too test this, but if I remember correctly, the
trick to getting ie6 to jive with the overflow: auto trick is to give
that same element a width. Try a width on #main-text and let us know if
that works. Or wait until someone who's had their coffee shows up!

[css-d] Static site to fluid site

Can anyone give me some hints to get the left border to mimic what's

For pages with flexible width you need 2 wrappers. One for each
background down the sides.
Support for multiple background images isn't widespread enough yet.

Note: I've only worked on the first page, so none of the links on my
  revised page work.

I have no idea what you mean by watery marks, but the native size of the
image is 557 X 371 pixels. You have squeezed it down to 200 X 200 pixels, a
very bad practice. Re-size the image in an image-editing app (I use
PhotoPaint). And, you can't alter the aspect ratio as you have without
distorting the image.

If you are determined to be a web designer I think a thorough understanding
of bitmap images is essential.

The 'overflow: 'only works on block elements with declared dimensions,
and 'overflow: wrap' is an unknown value.

Is there a good way to make this wrap when it goes past the width, if

Not really - unless some browsers support something like 'wrap-option:
emergency' suggested in CSS3 module: text.

In your case I would simply hide the overflow on the entire block...

.comment-content {overflow: hidden;}

...as that won't disturb anything regarding the link or otherwise, AFAICS.

One way I read your question you could simply change the master css

the style sheet in the first place instead of including it in the
