[css-d] serious site issues-cont'd
Group, I have implemented David's suggestions on the three column layout page issue and the base font issue. I'm still struggling with the wide column issue. http://www.webgirlwebdesigns.com/testing/StPaulsv1/index.html What I am noticing in IE 8 and FF 3.0 is on the wide column, there seems to be a gap between the top wide content div and the center content div. Also if I don't insert hard breaks, the text runs out of the box. In IE 8 also on some of the three column pages, everything shifts to the left and doesn't center. Re: [css-d] serious site issues-cont'd
David, I have looked on the pages and template and can find no such byte mark. I looked in DW and can't find the setting for this. I'm on CS4. Thank you, Lisa On this specific page: http://www.webgirlwebdesigns.com/testing/StPaulsv1/christianformation.html A Byte-order mark [1] precedes the doctype; consequently, IE is in quirksmode and throws your stuff left. [1] http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Byte-order_mark Dreamweaver, or whatever editor you are using, may be inserting it. Dreamweaver can be be stooped from doing this by changing something (I do not know what) in the preferences. Or, you can delete the BOM, and save the document in Notepad +++ . [css-d] series of site issues
I'm at the point of tearing my hair out. I have a site that I've got a series of issues on. First of all the font doesn't seem to stay universal from the main content with 3 boxes to the wide content. The three boxes in the main content don't seem to want to align. I have tried min-height and I have the height set to auto to flow in text. On the wide content pages, the center background image doesn't want to show up and it seems to separate from the top bg gif. Any assistance on this would be appreciated. http://www.webgirlwebdesigns.com/testing/StPaulsv1/index.html Lisa Wilcox __ css-discuss [cs...@lists.css-discuss.org] http://www.css-discuss.org/mailman/listinfo/css-d List wiki/FAQ -- http://css-discuss.incutio.com/ List policies -- http://css-discuss.org/policies.html Supported by evolt.org -- http://www.evolt.org/help_support_evolt/
[css-d] css positonal issues on site
I have a website that I'm trying to finish up and am having text and positional issues with it. http://www.webgirlwebdesigns.com/testing/Krumm/index.html The menu seems to spread out on some pages and the text spacing is screwy depending on the browser. I have validated it in DW and no errors. [css-d] css-d@lists.css-discuss.org
Yikes! Dreadfully slow even on my T1 line. I would suggest having a sit down meeting with the designer and the church contact person and explain the merits of a fast loading web page and how it will help them from an accessibility and search engine standpoint. If potential church members get on this and it takes forever to load, they will leave vs waiting for it to load. If you really want to sing this home have them try to get on your test link on dial up! My suggestion is to slice the image into div layers just as Adam had suggested and try to move forward from there but the designer has to be more realistic about the type of images they are producing for the web. snip I started to code the site and got this far: http://dev.eddysound.com/dev/rrc/ It has an extremely slow load time due to the rather large circular image. Basically, can anyone give me advice as to how they would go about laying this page out in valid CSS and XHTML? /snip __ css-discuss [EMAIL PROTECTED] http://www.css-discuss.org/mailman/listinfo/css-d List wiki/FAQ -- http://css-discuss.incutio.com/ List policies -- http://css-discuss.org/policies.html Supported by evolt.org -- http://www.evolt.org/help_support_evolt/
[css-d] adobe web site
Is it just me or is adobe.com's home page menu getting lost behind their header flash? I'm on Vista home premium running FF 2.0 and when I view adobe.com (home page) the menu drops down behind the flash and you can't access their menus. It's driving me crazy! The company that touts being the industry standard can't even seem to handle their own site menu! I have tried to contact someone with no luck. I'm writing here with the hope that Eric or someone here has a contact with someone at adobe that will actually listen! [css-d] Fill the page, but keep your border
Stephen, Kudos to you on this. I personally found this very useful on a project of mine. Cheers, Lisa Wilcox For a long time I have been trying to find a way to create a page which fills the viewport but leaves a border around the content. For example, a div which is 100%-4em wide and high, with a 2em border. Unfortunately the css box model doesn't make this easy. I have found a way to do this with css which I believe is novel: http://www.sfnelson.org/css-demo.html In essence, I use a hidden floating div with height: 100% and margin: -4em. This marks the bottom of the div. Then, I create the content div, and place another hidden div inside it which has float: none. This stretches the content box below the floating div. I hope this is useful to someone. Re: [css-d] Simple Dreamweaver/CSS question
Do you have that css file linked in your html page? In the head of your code, you should have a link to your stylesheet in the following manner: link rel=stylesheet media=all type=text/css href=link to your style.css here / Hope this helps. I've learned to generate CSS files and do simple code mods, and attach the style sheet files to new html files. However, when I preview my newly-minted CSS-attached html files in Safari 3.0 (the latest, under Leopard) or in Firefox 2.0, none of the formatting is visible. The rendered page has the wrong background color, and it looks like a dumb html page with none of the CSS text formatting. I've verified that my CSS file is in the proper directory (same as html file). What could be the issue? I have a web site www.familyfirstdocs.com. In IE6 with WinXP, the scrolling seems to be disabled on the dropdown menus. In IE 7 and on Firefox it seems fine.
