According to the newspaper, college admissions officers believe students who go through the process of admitting their homosexuality in high school develop self-confidence, leadership abilities, cultural awareness, and other characteristics that colleges want. The Boston Globe quoted Judith Brown, director of the Lesbian Gay Bisexual Transgender Center at Tufts University near Boston: "Schools are inviting these students because they question the norms ... They make people question their own assumptions, and that's a key to learning and growing as people." (AP) - Walk-in suicide bombers like those who have attacked public places in Israel will hit the United States eventually, FBI Director Robert Mueller said Monday. "I think we will see that in the future, I think it's inevitable," Mueller said in response to a question during a speech to the National Association of District Attorneys meeting in suburban Alexandria, Va. Mueller said the degree of fanaticism an informant must exhibit to get into the inner circle of a terrorist group makes it difficult for law enforcement agencies to penetrate such organizations and prevent such attacks. "I wish I could be more optimistic," he said. Mueller's prediction follows Vice President Dick Cheney's warning Sunday that because no specific information is available, the United States is finding it difficult to respond to the latest intelligence hints that al-Qaida may be planning another attack. Mueller said law enforcement has been somewhat successful in combating acts of terrorism in Northern Ireland by developing sources who could provide information about terrorist plans and by using electronic surveillance. But he said the difficulty of getting informants inside terrorist groups targeting the United States makes it much harder to obtain advance information. Cheney said Sunday he sees "a real possibility" that walk-in suicide bombers may hit the United States if those who have attacked Israel succeed in changing the situation in the Middle East. "Terrorism is an evil, pernicious thing, and it is one of the biggest challenges we've ever faced as a nation," Cheney said. At the prosecutors meeting, Mueller said the FBI now believes that "an al-Qaida bomb maker" constructed the shoe bomb that Richard Reid had when he was apprehended aboard a flight from Paris to the United States in December. Mueller made the comment in describing how the FBI is increasing its recruitment of scientific experts to help in terrorism investigations and is "centralizing analytical capability" to coordinate evidence gathering. Mueller also said the arrest of Abu Zubaydah, a top al-Qaida operative, during raids in Pakistan in March was the result of a joint FBI-CIA operation. He cited the raids as an example of how the traditional wall between the FBI and the CIA is coming down as the two agencies battle terrorism. When Lovers Become Strangers. Why the Saudis Cheated on America. May 10, 2002 By: Jamie Glazov SOMETIMES lovers become strangers. The U.S.-Saudi love affair is a case in point. Its over. It has actually been over for quite some time now; its just that the Americans didnt know it yet. It took September 11 for the Americans to smell the coffee. Thats because the Saudis were heavily implicated in the terrible terrorist attacks that occurred on that tragic day. But yes, there was a loving relationship - for more than a half century. The partnership was of mutual benefit to both parties and it reached its zenith when the two countries confronted Saddam Hussein in Kuwait in 1990-1991. You could say that the 1980s were the "golden years" of the American-Saudi romance. Thats when the two lovers were on the same side in the Cold War. Both countries funded the rebels in Afghanistan against the Soviet invaders. Both worked to contain the fanaticism of the Iranian revolution in 1979 - which explains why they supported Iraq launching its war against Iran in 1980. The Saudis also helped fund the American-backed Contra rebels against the Sandinista government in Nicaragua. And there were also economic ties. Most importantly, the Saudis faithfully kept their oil prices and supplies at levels that suited the American market. But then, with the crumbling of the Soviet Empire, something new began to happen. With the Evil Empire gone, Saudi Arabia realized it didnt really love, or need to love, America as it once did. So it started a secret and duplicitous love affair. It began an affair with the forces that sought to destroy America, as well as the Western world overall. Thats what the Saudis always wanted to do - its just that they had to put that particular objective on the backburner during the Cold War. Just recently, we have learned that the Saudis, along with Saddam Hussein, have been giving "blood money" to the families of Palestinian suicide bombers and to each Palestinian who is wounded while trying to kill Jews. The Israelis have also just recently unearthed evidence that confirms what American intelligence already knew: that the Saudis have been bankrolling Islamic terrorism against the West for years. They have donated large sums of money and arms to bin Laden, al Qaeda and the Taliban. Three major organizations that have laundered money for bin Laden and other terrorists, for instance, received millions of dollars from the Saudis. Just recently, it has been discovered that Saudi Arabia is funding the Hamas terrorist group to enable it to produce a short-range missile called the "Qassam." The Saudi money flow to all of these groups is still to be cut off. Keep in mind that bin Laden, his terrorist network, and the Taliban all acquired their psychotic philosophy from the Wahhabi ideology, a form of Islamic fascism that rules in Saudi Arabia. The Saudis export their religious hatred. They send aid, for instance, to foreign Islamic religious schools that teach Wahhabi ideology and other forms of fundamentalist political Islam. It is no coincidence, therefore, that 15 of the 19 hijackers on 9/11 came from Saudi Arabia. The rulers, after all, oversaw the recruitment of approximately 25,000 Saudis to wage holy war against Israel, America and the West. The Saudis, in other words, bear a heavy responsibility for September 11. No wonder the House of Saud has been so stubbornly uncooperative with the United States in investigating the terrorist attacks, in supporting the U.S. war in Afghanistan, and in stopping their funding of jihad groups. As a matter of fact, U.S. intelligence sources have confirmed that, at this very moment, Saudi Arabia is spending millions of dollars to help al Qaeda and Taliban fighters escape American justice. All of this makes perfect sense of course: why should the Saudis help in a war that is targeted against themselves? The Saudis, you see, hate America. And they hate the West. It doesnt really take a rocket-scientist to figure out why the Saudis have launched this new war in the post-Cold War era. The end of the Cold War terminated the clash of political ideologies and yielded the clash of civilizations -- Western vs. Islamic. Lets get one thing straight: The Saudi and Arab hatred of America and the West has nothing to do with Washingtons support of Israel. It has everything to do with envy and resentment. The Arab world simply feels an excruciating sense of humiliation because of its pathetic impotence in the face of Western success. Thus, in a desperate attempt to avoid confronting the reality that its civilization is a basket case, the Arab world entertains a delusional belief in some kind of lost glory - which has been stolen by the Westerners in general and by the evil Jews in particular. As the delegations to the summit remain deadlocked on abortion, international nongovernmental organizations (NGOs) that support the U.S. delegation's anti-abortion stance circulated copies of pages from a UNICEF-funded book given to delegates from Latin America that promotes sexual activity and abortion among teens in their countries. "Reproductive health includes the following components: Counseling on sexuality, pregnancy, methods of contraception, abortion, infertility, infections and diseases," says the Spanish-language book, whose title translates to "Theoretic Elements for Working with Mothers and Pregnant Teens." An accompanying workshop book produced by the U.N. Children's Fund (UNICEF) tells Latin American mothers and teens: "Situations in which you can obtain sexual pleasure: 1. Masturbation. 2. Sexual relations with a partner whether heterosexual, homosexual, or bisexual. 3. A sexual response that is directed toward inanimate objects, animals, minors, non-consenting persons." The book, which was distributed by the Mexican government with U.N. funding, suggests lesbian sex as an acceptable alternative for girls. "Sexual relations with a partner: Here we should insist there is no ideal or perfect relations between two or several people," the book says. "The one that gives us the most satisfaction and that which is adopted to our way of being and the style of life we have chosen. This is why we encounter many differences among women. UNICEF spokesman Alfred Ironside acknowledged U.N. funding for the book, but said it was produced by the Mexican government in 1999 and pulled from circulation "when the content was more carefully reviewed." "It was pulled out of circulation when the content was more carefully reviewed." In a candidate profile completed by Libertarian candidate Rick Stanley for the Rocky Mountain News's Web site, he offered this judgment of Allard's first term in office: "I believe he should be indicted for treason," Stanley wrote of the Republican incumbent. "Hung, when found guilty." Isn't capital punishment a shade . . . severe? "Actually, I do" mean that literally, Stanley said Friday. "All of these people (in Congress) are traitors." Pressed for specifics, Stanley said: "Wayne Allard voted for the Patriot Act. That violates the Constitution seven or eight different ways. You could take almost any legislation over the last 100 years and say the same thing." Gray Davis suspended the agency's chief amid a widening investigation of the state's multimillion-dollar computer contract with Oracle Corp. As those developments were unfolding in the Capitol, Davis' director of e-government, Arun Baheti, quit. His resignation came one day after he acknowledged to Davis aides that he had personally accepted a $25,000 Oracle check for the governor's reelection committee, which reported receiving the money two weeks after the state signed the $95-million computer software deal. Late Thursday, Davis issued a statement saying that he would give "immediate and careful attention" to an offer Oracle has said it made in the past to rescind the entire deal. Oracle said earlier in the day that its offer to undo the contract still stood. That contract has become the object of scrutiny and criticism. A state audit concluded that the deal, designed to save money, could cost the government $41 million more than if there had been no agreement. "Was there shredding related to the Oracle contract? We have no idea. That's what we want to find out." While department officials said any shredding was routine, Atty. Gen. Bill Lockyer said in a statement: "Any destruction of documents, e-mail and other materials that may be associated with the Oracle contract could pose the potential for obstruction of justice." (AP) A federal judge on Friday ordered the removal of the Ten Commandments at two municipal buildings, ruling that their display violates the constitutional separation of church and state. U.S. District Judge Allan Edgar ordered the removal of the Ten Commandments at the Hamilton County Courthouse and City Courts Building. The commandments are on engraved plaques shaped like a stone tablet. However, Edgar said the Ten Commandments display can remain at Hamilton County's Juvenile Court Building because the plaintiffs, the Tennessee chapter of the American Civil Liberties Union, did not have the right to challenge the posting there. Edgar said none of the plaintiffs do business at the Juvenile Court so have not ``endured unwelcome contact'' with the display there. The ACLU and several Hamilton County residents had sued, claiming the displays violate religious freedom and are ``divisive to religious diversity.'' The Ten Commandments were posted in December after a September vote by Hamilton County commissioners. Commission Chairman Bill Hullander has testified that the idea of posting them occurred to him a few days after the Sept. 11 attacks. Edgar said the nation's founders' ``made a conscious decision'' to separate religion and government, which ``has served us well.'' ``Experience tells us that there is perhaps nothing more divisive than the interjection of religion into our government. Where Islam Fits in Prophecy Today October 1, 1990 From now on, until the Second Advent of Christ, the word "Islam" (or what some people call "Muhammadanism") will be very much in the vocabulary of all important political and religious peoples in the world. Almost a fifth of the world's population Is presently Islamic in belief and it is the fastest growing religion in the world today. What is of utmost importance to prophetic interpreters is the fact that the vast majority of peoples surrounding Israel and the Holy Land are Muslims (adherents of Islam) and they will figure prominently in all prophetic events which are destined to occur in the end-time generation before Christ's Second Advent. In this Prophetic Report, it will be shown just how significant some of the basic aspirations of the Muslims really are and how they look on Jerusalem and the holy places in the Middle East. We also need to comprehend how most Christians and Jews revere many of the same holy places and what will finally develop among the three religious groups regarding their attitudes towards those holy places. There is hardly a subject more important to study and to understand in today's world. There are three faiths that are profoundly interested in events that take place in what is called the "Holy Land" in the Middle East. This not only includes the Land of Canaan and the city of Jerusalem, but the term to many people of the region reaches out to embrace a much larger area. As I recently explained in a lecture which was sent to those on our mailing list who requested it, the land that was promised to the descendants of Abraham was located between the river Euphrates and the river Nile in Egypt (or an eastern branch of the Nile called the Pelusiac arm that used to flow into the Mediterranean near the present day Suez canal). This promise by God to Abraham and his progeny is found in Genesis 15:18. What is important to realize is the fact that there were no boundaries given in this promise to Abraham in the direction of the desert areas to the southeast of the Land of Canaan. It effectively meant that the whole of the Arabian peninsula (with all its oil wealth) was also the Abrahamic promise. The northern boundary of this promised land was at what the Bible calls "the entrance to Hamath" (Numbers 34:8) which "entrance" was anciently understood to mean where the Orontes River (opposite Antioch) flows into the Mediterranean Sea. It was upstream on the Orontes River where the city of Hamath was situated. Thus, the northern boundary was at an understood line drawn from the mouth of the Orontes to the area of the bulge of the Euphrates as it juts out toward the Mediterranean Sea about 350 miles north of Jerusalem. The perimeters of this promised land to Abraham and his descendants encompass a vast amount of territory. It was not intended to be given only to the twelve tribes of Israel. Their part of this promised land was only the Land of Canaan and the lands east of Jordan north of the Arnon River and up to and including Mount Hemon. The lands to the south and east were to be given to other descendants of Abraham. These were notably the peoples who descended from Ishmael and his twelve sons and the descendants of the six sons of Keturah who were also from Abraham. See Genesis 25:1-18 where this is explained. And also to the southeast adjacent to Israel was the land of the Edomites, and to the east of Jordan on the highlands portion of the King's Highway was the land of the Moabites and Ammonites. All of these peoples were equally descendants of Abraham, though they were mixed with other races in their vicinities. What is important for us to understand in regard to prophetic interpretation is the fact that almost all these lands outside the Land of Canaan and the Philistine/Phoenician territory on the Mediterranean coast are now in the hands of peoples who claim Islam as their faith. And, within these boundaries of the promised land to Abraham are the two holiest cities within Islam --Mecca and Medina in Saudi Arabia. The third holiest area to Muslims is Jerusalem. Now look at Jerusalem itself. It is reckoned as a "holy city" by the three major faiths which look to Abraham as their spiritual and/or physical father. There is Judaism which reckons the area of the Dome of the Rock on Mount Moriah as the place where the altar of burnt offering stood in Solomon's temple and also in the temple that existed in Christ's time. Somewhere to the east of that spot and near the summit of the Mount of Olives is where the Red Heifer was killed and burnt to ashes and this spot (wherever it is) is of supreme importance to Jews if a new temple is to be built and to function properly. One potential trouble spot is the US withdrawal from the Republic of Texas. The Bush Ranch is located in Crawdad, Texas, and the president loves it very much. "We both came to agreement on the vision for the future of our two nations," Bush said. "On some points," Bush added, "we have reached agreement, like returning California and Arizona to Mexico, while on others, like what to do with the Crawdad Ranch, we have not yet reached agreement. But President Bush, while hailing the Mexican plan as positive, said that a complete return to pre-1848 borders would "destroy the United States." Jerry Falwell © 2002 WorldNetDaily.com It is time for the Catholic Church to get serious about protecting children. The fact is, any cleric Catholic or Protestant who molests a child to satisfy his own dark urges should be immediately dismissed and severely punished. Period. However, church leaders have gone blind to their responsibilities. Revelations that top U.S. clergy protected pedophiles and failed to prevent them from interacting with credulous children is simply unforgivable. It is criminal! This is not the time for compromise, settlement or bargain. It is time for the church to attend to ridding itself of pedophiles and painstakingly ensuring that virtuous and honorable men are recruited to replace them. President Bush has stated that any nation that harbors terrorists is guilty of terrorism. Similarly, any church leader who provides safe haven for a pedophile priest, pastor or rabbi is just as guilty. It is unthinkable that men who have yielded their lives to ministry would descend to such depths that they would sexually abuse little children. It is just as unthinkable that a church leader would protect these men. Twenty years ago, a child was brought into the nursery at my Thomas Road Baptist Church. When a nursery worker was changing the child's diaper, she discovered several bruises all over the child's body. She reported this finding to our senior children's pastor who called the parents in to discuss the situation. The parents said the child had simply "fallen down." We did not report this situation to the authorities. But we should have. A couple of weeks later, the same child was hospitalized after a severe beating. Our children's pastor was arrested because the law requires the church or anyone else, for that matter to report what was earlier discovered. Later, a court dismissed the charges against our pastor but gave a stern warning to our church that we have no right to determine the genuineness of these situations. I discovered that my staff and I are under obligation to do what is right, even if it means angering the family involved. Today, all of our church workers are aware of their responsibilities in these situations. And responsibility is the issue within the Catholic Church. Tragically, the Church has bishops and cardinals who are aware of homosexuality and pedophilia and are advising that only mild censure take place with the guilty. It is even more astonishing that they would place guilty priests back in ministry where they have access to little boys. I can imagine my horror if I learned that my children or grandchildren had been placed in harm's way in such a reckless manner. Thankfully, the pope said this week that he would no longer tolerate pedophile priests. But he must ensure that his subordinates solemnly carry out his message and ensure that the denomination rids itself of these predators. I'm not just targeting Catholic priests. My call for justice and penalty includes Baptist preachers and ministers of any other denomination who may be guilty of child sexual abuse. Any man who would abuse a child should be immediately subjected to harsh criminal indictment. I also believe the media is acting hypocritically in reporting on the controversy within the Catholic Church. The mainstream media has been typically critical of the leaders of the Boy Scouts of America for attempting to prevent similar situations from becoming pervasive in their organization by banning homosexual Scout leaders. Because the Scouts took this common-sense approach to safeguarding their young members, they have been labeled as purveyors of hate. Nothing could be further from the truth. It is obvious that we live in a distorted world where such men hope to prey on innocent children. Preventive measures no matter how politically incorrect must be taken. The same media that is clobbering the Catholic Church for harboring these guilty priests is the same one that has unleashed the brutal assault against the Scouts. The Scouts actually look pretty wise right now. Furthermore, the U.S. Supreme Court acted unwisely by recently legalizing virtual pornography of children. This terrible decision struck down the Child Pornography Prevention Act which attempted to close a loophole for pedophiles by banning the creation, distribution and possession of what is known as "virtual child pornography" sexually-explicit images of children through computer-generated programs. Writing in the latest Atlantic, Rauch waxes Polonian as he blames conservatives for undermining marriage: Those who worry about the example gays would set by marrying should be much more worried about the example gays are already setting by not marrying . . . At a time when marriage needs all the support and participation it can get, homosexuals are pleading to move beyond cohabitation. We want the licenses, the vows, the rings, the honeymoons, the anniversaries, the benefits, and, yes, the responsibilities and the routines. And who is telling us just to shack up instead? Self-styled friends of matrimony. Ironic, isnt it? The very words he uses--ironic and sad. How ironic that people who are revolted by homosexuality are so short sighted not to apply the sacred term marriage to practices that they regard as obscene. Robert Frost once described the liberal as someone unwilling to take his own side in an argument. Some of this reluctance to defend their own point of view stems from the liberals insistence upon appropriating other peoples positions. Liberals are always telling conservatives what a real conservative should believe, but Rauch has gone all the way, instructing social conservatives, who are for the most part practicing Christians and Jews that to be true to their values they must endorse homosexual marriage and set aside the traditional Christian (and conservative) view of homosexuality as an unnatural vice. Because, you see, to be really conservative, you have to be--what else?--liberal. The same goes for being really Christian or really old-fashioned. And if you think this makes sense, you are really dumb. The policies promoted by stupid liberals destroyed marriage, and now another set of stupid liberals want to take the next step. Let them. If that sounds far-fetched, consider this: Some of the largest mosques and Islamic centers in America are funded by the royal government of Saudi Arabia, which gets most of its revenues from oil exports. And America is its biggest customer. "You certainly can say that U.S. oil purchases end up funding U.S. mosques," said Daniel Pipes, a former State and Defense department official who now heads the Middle East Forum in Philadelphia. So what? More and more, Saudi is embracing a radical and acutely violent strain of Islam called "Wahabbism," one that is spreading rapidly from its borders. Most of the Saudi people adhere to this increasingly anti-American sect. Saudi was home to 15 of the 19 Sept. 11 hijackers, as well as their leader, Osama bin Laden. And it has been a reluctant ally in America's war on terror. Of the more than 1,200 mosques in America, more than 80 percent have been built within the last 20 years thanks in large part to Saudi money, according to Reza F. Safa, author of "Inside Islam." "Saudi Arabia alone has spent $87 billion since 1973 to spread Islam throughout the United States and the Western hemisphere," Safa said. For example, King Fahd of Saudi pledged as much as $8 million to build a new mosque at the site of the Masjid Bilal Islamic Center, the large black mosque in South Central Los Angeles. Last year, Saudi's Islamic Development Bank committed an additional $295,000 for the construction of the Bilal Islamic Primary and Secondary School. Bilal is just one of many black mosques funded by Saudi. Most of them, including Bilal, are associated with Imam W. Deen Mohammed, head of the Chicago-based Muslim American Society, or MAS, which has been credited with helping convert more than a million U.S. blacks to Islam. A spokesman for the group said "hundreds of American mosques are associated with" MAS, explaining that each major city has "one main mosque and two or three smaller centers in the suburbs." The Chicago area, for example, has a MAS mosque and three related centers, he says. Black converts make up the fastest-growing segment of the Muslim population in America. An estimated 60 to 90 percent of all U.S. converts to Islam are black, Safa says. "Eighty percent of these converts were raised in the church," he added. Christianity Today predicts that if the conversion rates continue, Islam could become the dominant religion in black urban areas by 2020. Nation of Islam Mohammed originally took over the Nation of Islam after the death of his father, Elijah Muhammad, who founded the group. A rift with Louis Farrakhan, then a rising Nation of Islam star, led him to found MAS, which is considered less radical than Farrakhan's Nation of Islam today. But Pipes notes that Mohammed has recently been steering MAS toward fundamentalism to cater to the growing number of immigrants attending his mosques. His for-profit Collective Purchasing Conference, also based in Chicago, sells members orthodox Muslim clothing and "halal" meats butchered according to the Koran, the sacred book of Muslims. Mohammed's father, Elijah, "hated" the U.S. and celebrated when Japan attacked Pearl Harbor, Pipes said. He was arrested and served three years in jail for draft evasion. Though he expressed "shock" at the Sept. 11 terrorism, W. Deen Mohammed didn't categorically condemn the attacks in a statement to MAS members. That Saudi Arabia is stoking the black Muslim movement in America does not comfort Islam-watchers, given growing resentment of Saudis toward the U.S. which, as it happens, dovetails with black attitudes, recent polls show. Sixty-four percent of Saudis have an "unfavorable" view of the U.S., according to a Gallup poll taken December and January, after the terrorist attacks. That compares with 57 percent of black Muslims who think America is an "immoral society," according to a Zogby International poll taken November and December. Black attitudes Like the Saudis, the vast majority of black Muslims oppose U.S. foreign policy in the Middle East. Fully 70 percent, in fact, blame the Sept. 11 attacks on that policy, the Zogby poll says. Echoing Saudis, most black Muslims say America should stop aiding Israel and support a Palestinian state. The gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender politicos organized another "hijacking" of public education on April 10, 2002, and their plans call for more to come. By using an oxymoronic ploy called a "Day of Silence," GLSEN (Gay, Lesbian and Straight Educational Network), orchestrated a silent protest encouraging middle-school and high-school students to protest the prejudice and discrimination of gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender students. That's right, no talking for nine hours, which included the school day. GLSEN, an adult-run advocacy group led predominantly by gay and lesbian current and former educators, used the recently created GSA Clubs (Gay-Straight Alliances) on campuses to coordinate the event. GLSEN provided posters, flyers, signs and the all-important "speaking cards" that students were to offer their teachers during the school hours. These cards explained the silence and challenged the reader to "think about the voices that are silenced today. ... What are you going to do to end the silence?" This attack upon the educational day stimulated much-needed outrage from parents, citizens and taxpayers. Many parents and students have been motivated to turn toward the legal system, yet others are demanding a day for the messages of pro-life, abstinence and creation science. No matter the immediate response, the question on the "speaking cards" should ring loudly for the future battles to come: "What are you going to do to end the silence?" The ridiculous aspect of this recent demonstration is, if there ever were a social agenda that does not need a day of silent protest, it's the homosexual agenda. Yet, on a day where "the agenda" was willing to be silent, an appropriate question for the rest of us to consider was asked: "What are you going to do about the silencing of equal speech?" What are you going to do about the silencing of "free speech" and open debate? What are you going to do about truth that has been silenced by political pressure? Will you organize to simply attack or will you have the determination and the knowledge to respond with intellectual debate and open forum? Many still believe in today's youth. Teen-agers want to be told the truth. They long for the absolutes that define life's morality and liberty. Nobody sets out to learn from "truths that have been lied about and lies that have been truthed about." Students can handle the truth, and maybe it's time we organized to give them just that the absolute truth and debate on an equal playing field. This Day of Silence needs to be taken as an open invitation for more creative means in this fight. Student groups are organizing "Teens for Life Clubs," "Virtue/Abstinence Clubs," "Creation and Evolution Clubs," as well as "Free Speech Clubs" to demand a place in the educational/cultural debate. Some local schools are seeing the creation of "Parents Rights Groups" that meet once a week. They monitor social and political activities inside of the schoolhouse. They build confidential relationships with traditional and conservative faculty members, offering them the support they need. These "Parents Rights Groups" also act as a steering committee, asking for regular school board meeting agenda placement to discuss their findings and announce their method of response. False agendas need "truth serum" and an antidote of free speech in the forum of open debate. Students on the "inside" are looking for help from the "outside." The left agendas stop at nothing to see that their message is propagated. The right seems to be asleep in the light of the truth! Yeah, it's easier to call an attorney and bring a lawsuit against the school board, the school administration and even the state board of education and in some instances this is appropriate and needed. But this doesn't weed out the deep-seated lies that have been planted. Why can't the right receive the same creative energy that supports the left? If it's a battle for the mind and the soul, the engagement from all fronts is needed in this war. Since Sept. 11, we all know what to do if the airliner we are traveling on is hijacked. The message used to be compliance but not any longer. If the hijacking of a plane can turn it into a smart bomb, think of what the hijacking of education can do when left unchallenged. Shanley a medical leave 12 years ago and allowed him to move here, they saw it as a chance for him to heal various physical ailments, primarily allergies, in the desert air, and to do a little pastoral work if and when he was well enough. At his insistence, Father Shanley's Boston superiors arranged for regular checks to be sent to him for living expenses and medical bills, and sent laudatory letters of recommendation to their counterparts at the Diocese of San Bernardino, carefully avoiding mention of a swirl of accusations that he had molested more than two dozen young boys in Massachusetts going back to 1967. What his superiors appeared not to know, however, was that the address to which they were sending Father Shanley's checks for most of his time here was the Cabana Club Resort, one of the many hotels that cater to the town's gays. Father Shanley became an owner of the hotel, along with the Rev. John J. White, another Boston priest who was also on sick leave and receiving money from the Boston Archdiocese. Father White was the sole owner of a second hotel, the nearby Whispering Palms. Neither remains in business, although the scene they were part of is thriving, with 40 such hotels and bed-and-breakfasts, mostly in the Warm Sands enclave. These clothing-optional places, protected from prying eyes by walls and towering bougainvillea, do year-round business for gay men from around the world. Interviews with some of his acquaintances in Palm Springs paint a picture of a man who immersed himself in the local gay scene soon after his arrival in 1990, although most people who remember him said he was quieter and less outgoing than Father White. On occasion, he helped out at St. Anne Church in San Bernardino, celebrating a weekend Mass or leading youth retreats. "My biggest surprise was that Paul was a priest at all," said John Kendrick, 47, co-owner of Inn Exile, a hotel that he expanded after buying the Whispering Palms, next door, from Father White in 1994. "I didn't know you could be a part-time priest." The disclosures about Father Shanley, 70, who vanished from his San Diego apartment building almost three weeks ago, have added heat to the controversy surrounding Cardinal Bernard F. Law of Boston, depicted in documents released on Monday as being consistently supportive of priests like Father Shanley and John J. Geoghan. Both were shuttled from parish to parish, even as evidence of abuses gathered against them, without regard to whether they had further contacts with children. Father Geoghan was later defrocked and convicted of indecent assault. Father Shanley has not been charged with a crime, although the Boston Archdiocese has settled at least three lawsuits against him. Officials at the San Bernardino Diocese who were supposedly watching over Father Shanley during his sojourn in Palm Springs said last week they had known nothing of his activities in Warm Sands. Kevin Rice, 46, who has lived in Palm Springs for 14 years, got to know Fathers White and Shanley after he sold them space in Frontier News magazine for advertisements promoting the two hotels. "I knew Jack was a priest and thought he wasn't practicing," Mr. Rice said. "Jack introduced Shanley as someone he knew from his days in the seminary." Mr. Rice said that Father White "seemed to be a little off the wall" but that Father Shanley was a "very nice guy, personable." Father Shanley was "more of the business person," Mr. Rice said. "He had his head on straighter. There's no question about it, he's a very charismatic man." Having once stayed at the Whispering Palms, Mr. Rice described the resort as "one of the friskier places." Nude sunbathing was encouraged, and sex by the pool was permitted, he said. The two priests sold the Cabana Club Resort for $185,000 in 1997, three years after Father White had disposed of the Whispering Palms for $389,000. It is not clear how much they profited from the sales of the hotels, or at which point they stopped receiving money from the Boston Archdiocese. Father Shanley seemed unable to understand that he had hurt anyone in his years as an active Roman Catholic priest, and painted himself as a victim. "I have done nothing wrong," he wrote in a letter dated March 14, 1991, to Father John B. MacCormack, then a senior aide to Cardinal Law and now bishop in Manchester, N.H. In fact, two years ago the tax collecting agency began handing out reparations payments to the tune of millions, based on claims filed by taxpayers who cited a nonexistent slavery tax credit. The scam, touted by con-artists who tell unsuspecting marks they can help collect the slavery money for a fee, has resulted in $2.7 billion in claims, of which $30 million has been approved by the IRS. The racket is so widespread that a dozen current and former IRS employees have even applied for the slavery cash. An IRS computer program designed to catch the bogus slavery claims misses a full four percent, said the Washington Post, which revealed the scam's success on Saturday - just two days before the IRS's filing deadline. Most of the taxpayer funded slavery payments were for $43,209, the figure cited by Essence Magazine in 1993 as the estimated current value of "40 acres and a mule" - compensation promised to some freed slaves after the Civil War. But deputy IRS inspector general Pamela Gardiner admitted that in some cases, where couples filing jointly both claimed reparations refunds, checks for $80,000 were cut. Gardiner told the Post that the mistaken payments have encouraged others who might otherwise be skeptical of the slavery tax credit to file their own claims. According to gay activist Denny Lee, "When people understand that being gay or lesbian is an integral characteristic, they are more open-minded about equality for gay Americans." Problem is, there's no evidence that homosexuality is an "integral characteristic." It's something to keep in mind on the eve of the latest "gay holiday." Radical gays are fond of quoting studies that purport to prove that gays are born, not made. For example, ten years ago, Simon LeVay of the Salk Institute announced that he had found a significant difference in the brain structure of homosexual and heterosexual men, but subsequent research by others failed to duplicate LeVay's findings. The same goes for the research of Dean Hamer, who claimed to have found a "gay gene." Hamerwho is gaywas subsequently investigated by the Office of Research Integrity of the U.S. Public Health Service. Then there's a 1993 study on twins and sexual orientation by Boston University psychiatrist Richard Pillard. Pillard claimed he'd found evidence that homosexuality is a family trait. But Dr. Paul Ewald, an Amherst College biologist, told the Boston University Daily Free Press that Pillard's research made no such genetic connection. Dr. Ruth Hubbard of the Council for Responsible Genetics says the gay hype over genetics "is due to the fact that there is money to be made through biotechnology." And she adds: "There's no such thing as a gay gene. It is a waste of time and money" to look for one. So why are researchers looking for one? If gays can prove that homosexuality is genetic, there would be, they believe, no excuse for making moral distinctions between homosexual and heterosexual behavior. But wait a minute: Suppose there was a genetic connection. Would that justify gay "marriage"? It's been established in one study a genetic connection in criminal behavior. Does that excuse crime? Of course not. Or how about a gene for heterosexual behavior? Does that mean rape would be condoned? No! Nor does it mean homosexual behavior is inevitable and acceptable. We are more than the sum of our genes. On April 10, gay groups will celebrate the "Day of Silence Project." They're encouraging students around the country to take a nine-hour vow of silence to protest what they consider inappropriate discrimination against homosexuals. We can expect the press to trot out all the same, tired claims about gay genes, and, therefore, we should just accept as perfectly normal this behavior and give them full rights to adopt children and to marry. On that particular day of silence, why don't we do what many other Christians are doing and use it to speak out. Tell them about couples like John and Anne Paulk, now on the staff of Focus on the Family. John and Anne both came out of the homosexual lifestyle, married, and raised a Christian family. We can also tell people about the phony research about so-called gay genesand about the truth about how God heals homosexuals through groups like Exodus and Regeneration. ARMY STUDY SUGGESTS U.S. FORCE OF 20,000 By Rowan Scarborough [The Washington Times - 5 April 2002]: The Bush administration says there are no active plans to put American peacekeepers between Palestinians and Israelis, but at least one internal military study says 20,000 well-armed troops would be needed. The Army's School of Advanced Military Studies (SAMS), an elite training ground and think tank at Fort Leavenworth, Kan., produced the study last year. The 68-page paper tells how the major operation would be run the first year, with peacekeepers stationed in Gaza, Hebron, Jerusalem and Nablus. One major goal would be to "neutralize leadership of Palestine dissenting factions [and] prevent inter-Palestinian violence." The military is known to update secret contingency plans in the event international peacekeepers are part of a comprehensive Middle East peace plan. The SAMS study, a copy of which was obtained by The Washington Times, provides a glimpse of what those plans might entail. Defense Secretary Donald H. Rumsfeld repeatedly has said the administration has no plans to put American troops between the warring factions. But since the escalation of violence, more voices in the debate are beginning to suggest that some type of American-led peace enforcement team is needed. Sen. Arlen Specter, Pennsylvania Republican, quoted U.S. special envoy Gen. Anthony Zinni as saying there is a plan, if needed, to put a limited number of American peacekeepers in the Israeli-occupied territories.

Rose has written a frightening account of the corruption of the Roman Catholic seminary system in the United States. In "Goodbye! Good Men: How Catholic Seminaries Turned Away Two Generations of Vocations from the Priesthood" (Acquinas Publishing), Rose exposes the abuses that have driven honorable men faithful to the tenets of Roman Catholicism out of the seminaries and given preferential treatment to homosexuals and others wedded to unorthodox doctrines. In his book, written before the latest abuse scandals erupted, Rose insists that the alleged shortage of priests is "artificial and contrived," the result of policies adopted by scores of dioceses for many years - policies that turned the seminary system on its head - and have now driven a stake through the heart of the Catholic Church in America. In her foreword to the book, Alice Von Hilderbrand, Ph.D., writes: "This book holds the key to the phenomenon which, to many, is also an enigma: Why are so many seminaries empty? Michael S. Rose has the courage - a courage many Church leaders lack - of giving us the fearful but uncontestable answer: because vice has penetrated into many of them, and those who do not condone vice are excluded. True vocations are 'disqualified.'" Anyone, Catholic or non-Catholic, who wants to understand the causes of the current scandals in the church couldn't find a better explanation than that contained within the pages of "Goodbye! Good Men." In this first of a three-part series, NewsMax.com looks at some of the roadblocks placed in front of "good men" seeking to enter the Roman Catholic priesthood. Roadblocks to the Priesthood To anyone's eyes, Rich Birch would have appeared to be the perfect candidate for the priesthood. With a reputation as a conservative teacher of religion at one of his diocese's parochial schools in Covington, Ky., he encountered reluctance on the part of the diocese's vocations director even to allow him to begin the application process - a reluctance Birch believes was the result of his reputation as an orthodox teacher of the Catholic faith. Birch was sent to the Behavioral Science Center in Cincinnati for a psychological evaluation, a precondition required before his application could be considered. At the center he was evaluated in a brief meeting by one Dr. Joseph Wicker. Two months later he was informed that Wicker has written that although Birch "is an intelligent person who scored high on the mental ability tests, he is deficient in emotional and personality areas that would not make him a suitable candidate for ordained ministry." Wicker went on to say Birch was "a man of deep anger, somewhat socially maladjusted and is sexually immature." Birch, he added, "cannot deal with his inner feelings. I suspect he is only using the ordained ministry to keep from dealing with his inner feelings." The conclusion: "He is not sincere in seeking the ordained ministry and I cannot recommend him." He ended by saying if Birch would undergo about a year of "therapy" he might "consider him at some future time." Despite having glowing recommendations from those who knew him well, including his own pastor, he was turned down by the admissions committee because of Wicker's negative report. Wicker stymied Birch's vocation. His negative profile followed Birch when he went to another seminary and applied for admission. Once again Wicker's evaluation was used as the basis of a turndown. Something Wicker This Way Comes So who is Dr. Wicker, this man with the power to turn a deeply devout, intelligent candidate for the priesthood? According to the Wanderer, a nationally distributed lay Catholic newspaper, Wicker was rejecting more candidates for the priesthood than he was approving. But that's just the beginning. An article by reporter Gregory Flannery, an ex-seminarian himself, revealed: "Men who wish to become Catholic priests in the Archdiocese of Cincinnati are first assessed by the Worshipful Master of Mt. Washington Masonic Lodge 642." In the May 8, 1991 issue of Mt. Washington Press, a weekly newspaper, Flannery reported that Wicker was a fallen-away Catholic and noted that participation in Masonic sects is condemned by the Catholic Church. Wicker also admitted to being a member of another sect condemned by the church, the Rosicrucians. When area Catholics complained about the idea of a Masonic master passing on candidates for the priesthood, Archbishop Daniel E. Pilarczyk defended him. In 1988 Birch submitted to a second evaluation by Dr. Frank Miller of Catholic Social Services in Cincinnati. Miller tested Birch over a five-week period. This time, Birch passed muster. In Goodbye! Good Men: How Catholic Seminaries Turned Away Two Generations of Vocations From the Priesthood," author Michael S. Rose quotes a former Mundelein seminarian, Joseph Kellenyi, as saying: "The issue was never one of my suitability for ordination Rather it was that the gay clique had been given veto power over who got ordained." 'Gay Profession' In his book, "The Changing Face of the Priesthood," the rector of St. Mary's Seminary in Cleveland, Father Donald B. Cozzens, warned that the priesthood was becoming a "gay profession." And in the seminaries it wasn't merely a preponderance of gay students, but also "a disproportionate number of homosexually oriented persons," including faculty, he wrote. That kind of atmosphere, Rose notes, "deters the heterosexual man from continuing to study and prepare for the priesthood." Rose wonders how can "any healthy heterosexual seminarian expect to be properly formed and prepared for the priesthood when constantly subject to that which is so clearly contrary to Church teaching and discipline?" 'Threatening Atmosphere' He asks: "How many heterosexual seminarians, whether orthodox or not, have decided to leave the seminary and abandon their vocations because of the 'gay subculture' they were forced to endure, because they had been propositioned, harassed or even molested? We're not talking here about the presence of a few homosexually-oriented men who conduct themselves with perfect chastity. Rather there exists an intense and often threatening atmosphere." Indeed, so horrific is the situation that "certain seminaries have earned nicknames such as Notre Flame (for Notre Dame Seminary in New Orleans) and Theological Closet (for Theological College at Catholic University of America in Washington, D.C.); St. Mary's Seminary in Baltimore has earned the nickname 'The Pink Palace.'" Visiting the Gay Bars At some of the seminaries, faculty and students would don their gay apparel and head for gay bars. In March 2000 the liberal Greeley, often called the church's resident pornographer for his racy novels, testified that seminary professors "Tell their students that they're gay and take some of them to gay bars, and gay students sleep with each other." Greeley is not alone in exposing the homosexual behavior rampant in many of the nation's seminaries: According to Father Andrew Walker, the situation at the Baltimore seminary was so bad that the vice rector delivered a lecture "in front of at least 150 people when he stated, "Yes, we accept openly gay seminarians; that's our policy." According to Father John Trigilio, while visiting the Baltimore seminary he observed: "There was no discretion at all. The few times I was there, some of the seminarians would literally dress like gays from [Greenwich] Village. They would even go so far as to wear pink silk; it was like going to see La Cage Aux Folles." "In my day at St. Mary's," recalled Father John Despard (a pseudonym) "down the hall there would be two guys in the shower and everybody knew it." Rose cites numerous instances of gay domination at many of the nation's seminaries. One priest described the situation at Chicago's Mundelein seminary in the 1970s. Many of the younger students would be placed into situations where they compromised their sexual integrity," said Father Wayne H. Wurst during a radio broadcast. "This would be used against them by older students for favors. And those older students actually had faculty members who would request from time to time a friend who would come and visit them because they were lonely. And these students would supply fresh meat. "So there were madams, pimps and prostates all in a major seminary system that from outside, if you to walk through, would look very holy." Heterosexuals Driven Out Heterosexual students at a number of seminaries were persecuted by the gay subculture. Reporting homosexual behavior by classmates could get them expelled, as could resisting homosexual advances. Rose cites scores of cases of heterosexuals driven out of seminaries because they refused to accept the gay culture. What is "[g]reater than the Nazi Holocaust, the Soviet gulag, the Armenian genocide, the Cambodian killing fields, the nightmare in Rwanda[?] Or the slave trade in Africa itself"? (The sum-up comes from David Horowitz.) Why, America's crimes against blacks, of course. According to Randall Robinson in The Debt, "The enslavement of blacks in America lasted 246 years. It was followed by a century of legal racial segregation and discrimination. The two periods, taken together, constitute the longest running crime against humanity in the world over the last 500 years." Beneath the "united we stand" wartime flag-waving, you'll find some of the same old racial tinderboxes ready to burst. A new lawsuit aims to make sure there's an explosion and that as many as possible will have to pay for it. Linda Chavez has said that the "reparations debate has the potential of replacing affirmation action as the most volatile race issue in America." And it's that worldview of offenses against blacks as constituting the worst crime against humanity that feeds the lawsuit just brought in federal court against Aetna, FleetBoston, and CSX companies that, according to the suit, have profited from slave labor. The complaint was filed by plaintiff Deadria Farmer-Paellmann on behalf of all blacks who are descended from slaves a group which, according to USA Today, would include most of the nation's 36.4 million blacks. Prominent figures including Randall Robinson, Johnnie Cochran, Harvard's Charles Ogletree, and Cornel West who help make up the Reparations Coordinating Committee promise many more suits of its kind. David Horowitz got a crash course in the rabid irrationality this debate evokes when he placed, or at least tried to place, an ad in a series of college newspapers last spring. The advertisement was titled, "Ten Reasons Why Reparations for Slavery Is a Bad Idea and Racist too." Forty-three percent of the papers rejected the ad immediately, many conceding that it was simply a matter of content. On the 28 campuses where the ad did run, protests were held, papers were stolen (a favorite tactic in silencing conservative ideas on campus), and calls for were made for editors' resignations. (Horowitz recounts the controversy in his recent book Uncivil Wars.) Horowitz notes that until late 2000, when the Chicago city council voted 46 to 1 in favor of reparations for slavery, he "had always regarded the reparations movement as an obscure fringe cause." Months later, Horowitz noticed that the reparations idea was catching on like wildfire, with conferences on the topic popping up at colleges from sea to shining sea. And polls suggest it's not just on campus that reparations are popular. One USA Today poll shows whites and blacks to be sharply divided on the issue. Nine out of 10 whites polled said the government should not make cash payments to slave descendants, while 6 percent said it should. Among blacks, 55 percent said the government should pay reparations. Although the poll indicates that slightly more whites favor having corporations apologize and set up scholarship funds for the descendents of slaves, the sharp racial divide remains. More than 350,000 Americans died in the Civil War fighting in the northern army. "Was this not a form of atonement?" Horowitz asks in Uncivil Wars. Statutes of limitations and the fact that some of the companies the Reparations Committee will eventually target no longer even exist in their original form make it likely that the cause will never see legal victory. Nor is it catching on in Congress, where John Conyers has been proposing sanctioning reparations for 13 years and counting. But that doesn't really matter. "Once the record is fleshed out and made fully available to the American people, I think companies will feel some obligation" to settle, Randall Robinson has told USA Today. So long as the reparations activists can build up enough public pressure, we can expect companies to eventually buckle and reach for their wallets. Of course, if this really were about justice rather than racial politics, reparations activists would spend more time worrying about the slaves among us in 2002 than they do on the pain they claim to suffer from the knowledge that their ancestors were slaves. "But it really is in the interests of the homosexual agenda because it's part of their campaign to legitimize homosexuality and say it's no different from mom and dad do in the bedroom." "But we know it's different -- and we know it hurts the people who do it and any kids involved." He says people like O'Donnell want to make the public accept what God says is wrong. "You're starting with a household with two people with a severe sexual identity problem," he says. "They may have many fine attributes, but this does not qualify them to be parents. Adoption is a privilege, not a right, and children deserve to be placed into mother-and-father, married, intact homes." The pro-family activist says it is very unfair for homosexual celebrities to be given consideration for adopting children when there are thousands of loving heterosexual couples who have waited through years of red tape for the chance to adopt. Patrick Buchanan vs. Ben Wattenberg In 1821, a newly independent Mexico invited Americans to settle in its northern province of Texason two conditions: Americans must embrace Roman Catholicism, and they must swear allegiance to Mexico. Thousands took up the offer. But, in 1835, after the tyrannical General Santa Anna seized power, the Texans, fed up with loyalty oaths and fake conversions, and outnumbering Mexicans in Texas ten to one, rebelled and kicked the tiny Mexican garrison back across the Rio Grande. Santa Anna led an army north to recapture his lost province. At a mission called the Alamo, he massacred the first rebels who resisted. Then he executed the 400 Texans who surrendered at Goliad. But at San Jacinto, Santa Anna blundered straight into an ambush. His army was butchered, he was captured. The Texans demanded his execution for the Alamo massacre, but Texas army commander Sam Houston had another idea. He made the dictator an offer: his life for Texas. Santa Anna signed. And on his last day in office, Andrew Jackson recognized the independence of the Lone Star Republic. Eight years later, the U.S. annexed the Texas republic. An enraged Mexico disputed the American claim to all land north of the Rio Grande, so President James Polk sent troops to the north bank of the river. When Mexican soldiers crossed and fired on a U.S. patrol, Congress declared war. By 1848, soldiers with names like Grant, Lee, and McClellan were in the city of Montezuma. A humiliated Mexico was forced to cede all of Texas, the Southwest, and California. The U.S. gave Mexico $15 million to ease the anguish of amputation. Mexicans seethed with hatred and resentment, and in 1910 the troubles began anew. After a revolution that was anti-church and anti-American, U.S. sailors were roughed up and arrested in Tampico. In 1914, President Woodrow Wilson ordered the occupation of Vera Cruz by U.S. Marines. As Wilson explained to the British ambassador, I am going to teach the South Americans to elect good men. When the bandit Pancho Villa led a murderous raid into New Mexico in 1916, Wilson sent General Pershing and 10,000 troops to do the tutoring. Despite FDRs Good Neighbor Policy, President Cárdenas nationalized U.S. oil companies in 1938an event honored in Mexico to this day. Pemex was born, a state cartel that would collude with OPEC in 1999 to hike up oil prices to $35 a barrel. American consumers, whose tax dollars had supported a $50 billion bailout of a bankrupt Mexico in 1994, got gouged. The point of this history? Mexico has an historic grievance against the United States that is felt deeply by her people. This is one factor producing deep differences in attitudes toward America between todays immigrants from places like Mexico and the old immigrants from Ireland, Italy, and Eastern Europe. With fully one-fifth of all people of Mexican ancestry now residing in the United States, and up to 1 million more crossing the border every year, we need to understand these differences. 1. The number of people pouring in from Mexico is larger than any wave from any country ever before. In the 1990s alone, the number of people of Mexican heritage living in the U.S. grew by 50 percent to at least 21 million. The Founding Fathers wanted immigrants to spread out among the population to ensure assimilation, but Mexican Americans are highly concentrated in the Southwest. 2. Mexicans are not only from another culture, but of another race. History has taught that different races are far more difficult to assimilate than different cultures. The 60 million Americans who claim German ancestry are fully assimilated, while millions from Africa and Asia are still not full participants in American society. 3. Millions of Mexicans broke the law to get into the United States, and they break the law every day they remain here. Each year, 1.6 million illegal aliens are apprehended, almost all of them at our bleeding southern border. 4. Unlike the immigrants of old, who bade farewell to their native lands forever, millions of Mexicans have no desire to learn English or become U.S. citizens. America is not their home; they are here to earn money. They remain proud Mexicans. Rather than assimilate, they create their own radio and TV stations, newspapers, films, and magazines. They are becoming a nation within a nation. 5. These waves of Mexican immigrants are also arriving in a different America than did the old immigrants. A belief in racial rights and ethnic entitlements has taken root among Americas minorities and liberal elites. Today, ethnic enclaves are encouraged and ethnic chauvinism is rife in the barrios. Law enforcement authorities and others close to the aborted investigation said the State Department pressed federal officials to pull agents off the previously undisclosed probe after the charities were targeted in the diversion of cash to groups that fund terrorism. Former federal prosecutor John J. Loftus said four interrelated Islamic foundations, institutes and charities in Virginia with more than a billion dollars in assets donated by or through the Saudi Arabian government were allowed to continue under "a veil of secrecy." "If federal agents had been allowed to conduct the investigation they wanted in 1995, they would have made the connection between the Saudi government and those charities," said Mr. Loftus, now a St. Petersburg, Fla., lawyer who filed a lawsuit last week accusing a Florida charity of fraud. "Had the charities been shut down, they would have been unable to raise the millions that since have been used by terrorists in hundreds of suicide attacks," he said. Federal agents last week began a new investigation, known as "Operation Green Quest," into the funding by charities of suspected terrorists, raiding 14 Islamic businesses in Virginia. Agents from the U.S. Customs Service, Internal Revenue Service, Immigration and Naturalization Service and FBI, coordinated by a Treasury Department counterterrorism task force, seized two dozen computers, along with hundreds of bank statements and other documents. Records in the case have been sealed and no arrests have been announced, although the probe is continuing. The Loftus suit, filed March 20 under the Florida Consumer Protection Act, accuses the Saudi government in a massive scheme involving charities in Virginia and Florida that routed cash to terrorists. The suit's main target is Sami Al-Arian, a former University of South Florida professor who created or was associated with several Florida charities or think tanks, including the International Committee for Palestine, Islamic Concern Project and the now-defunct World and Islam Studies Enterprise. Warrants served by agents in the Virginia raids last week targeted, among others, the International Institute of Islamic Thought in Herndon, a major source of funding for Mr. Al-Arian's World and Islam Studies Institute. The warrants sought information on Islamic Jihad, Hamas, the Islamic Concern Project, the World and Islam Studies Enterprise, and Mr. Al-Arian. They also sought information on the SAAR Foundation, an educational and health charity founded by the Al-Rajihi family of Saudi Arabia. The Islamic Concern Project and the World and Islam Studies Enterprise have been named by the State Department as front organizations that raised funds for militant Islamic-Palestinian groups such as Islamic Jihad and Hamas. They have been tied to the diversion of millions of dollars to terrorists for weapons, safe haven, training and equipment. Nail Al-Jubeir, spokesman for the Saudi information office in Washington, called the accusations "simply nonsense," adding that Saudi Arabia has cracked down on terrorists and those who fund them. "There is not one iota of evidence to support these accusations," Mr. Al-Jubeir said. "It is nothing more than an effort to smear our name. If there is any proof, I would suggest it be taken directly to the U.S. government." Mr. Al-Arian and Mazen Al-Najjar, director of the Islamic Concern Project, have been the focus of federal investigations since the mid-1990s. No criminal charges have been filed against the two, although the government shut down the World and Islam Studies Enterprise. Mr. Al-Najjar, who is Mr. Al-Arian's brother-in-law, was detained and ordered deported by the INS on visa violations after the September 11 attacks on America. He is being held at a federal detention center in Florida pending appeal. In the aborted 1995 investigation, the FBI said in a sealed affidavit that the Islamic Concern Project and World and Islam Studies Enterprise working with charities in Virginia committed fraud and "served as a vehicle by which [Islamic Jihad] raised funds to support terrorist activities in the occupied territories." In that probe, investigators found that checks drawn on a bank account of the International Committee for Palestine had been cashed by people in the Middle East. They said the checks had been signed by Mr. Al-Arian.

The new policy means that Medicare beneficiaries can no longer be denied reimbursement for the costs of mental health services, hospice care or home health care just because they have Alzheimer's. In the past, many claims were automatically denied on the assumption that treatment was futile because people with Alzheimer's were incapable of any medical improvement. Now, federal officials say, new studies show that people with Alzheimer's can often benefit from psychotherapy, physical and occupational therapy and other services. "This is great news for people with Alzheimer's disease and other dementias," said Stephen R. McConnell, chief executive of the Alzheimer's Association. "The new policy should eliminate a form of discrimination against millions of people." Neither federal officials nor advocates for the elderly provided estimates of the cost of the new policy. Experts said the direct cost to Medicare could be several billion dollars a year. But, they said, some of the cost could be offset by savings elsewhere in Medicare and Medicaid, because the new services will enable patients to live longer on their own, with greater ability to function. The policy is set forth in a memorandum sent late last year from the government to the companies that review and pay Medicare claims. These companies have just begun to put the change into practice. The government gave no public notice of the new policy, but it has already made a difference in the lives of some people with Alzheimer's. Some patients have received benefits that were once denied, and some medical practitioners have secured payment for services that Medicare once refused to cover. The companies that review claims for the government, under federal contracts, are known as Medicare carriers. Most of them had programmed their computers to reject claims for people with Alzheimer's and other types of dementia. The new policy bans such computer software instructions and says contractors cannot deny claims simply because a person has Alzheimer's. "Throughout the course of their disease," the memorandum says, "patients with dementia may benefit from pharmacologic, physical, occupational, speech-language and other therapies." Patients' advocates, including the Alzheimer's Association and the American Bar Association, had supplied the government with dozens of research studies providing scientific evidence that such therapies were effective. The government said it changed its policy because doctors and psychologists can now often diagnose Alzheimer's in its early stages, when patients are most likely to derive significant benefits from treatment and therapy. While there is no cure for Alzheimer's, staving off its worst effects can prolong a relatively normal life and save money. It is not clear why the government did not publicize the new policy. Some officials apparently did not want to acknowledge that the old policy was, in effect, biased against people with Alzheimer's. When asked, a Medicare official said the change was not announced because "we saw it mainly as a technical matter for Medicare carriers." McConnell of the Alzheimer's Association estimated that 10 percent of people over 65 and nearly half of those over 85 had Alzheimer's, a brain disorder that causes loss of memory, changes in personality and behavior, and a decline in thinking abilities. Under the policy, Medicare will pay for more therapy and outpatient services. Dr. Steven T. DeKosky, a neurologist who directs the Alzheimer's Disease Research Center at the University of Pittsburgh, said these services would "keep people out of nursing homes," avoiding costs that would otherwise be borne by the government and by patients or their families. Kim A. Warchol, an occupational therapist in Itasca, Ill., who specializes in the treatment of people with Alzheimer's, said the new policy had major implications for patients, their spouses and their children. "People with Alzheimer's will be able to live at home longer and avoid institutionalization," Warchol said. "Caregivers often assume that people with Alzheimer's are helpless. But we focus on their remaining physical and mental abilities, the things they can still do, and we find that many patients can perform activities of daily living if we provide appropriate cues or reminders of how to get started." Although none of the three is given any chance of defeating opponents in the heavily Democratic districts, California's Log Cabin Republicans - an organization of some 400 gays and lesbians - are trying to take advantage of party rules that allow membership on the state GOP committee for victors in primary races. The three candidates were all winners in their primaries, and even if they lose in the general election - viewed as a sure thing - they could get as many as 18 appointments to the state committee, the state GOP's governing body. "The state is an extremely diverse state with an extremely diverse electorate, and the party needs to reflect that," Jeffrey Bissiri told the Sacramento Bee's Kevin Yamamura. Bissiri, an architect running in Los Angeles' 42nd Assembly, told Yamamura, "Embracing that diversity is a strength, not a weakness, and it's a road to victory." Also running with Log Cabin Republican backing are Matt Munson, a college student from Ontario who is trying for the 61st Assembly District seat in San Bernardino and Los Angeles counties, and Michael German, a deputy attorney general from San Francisco who is running for Congress against House Minority Whip Nancy Pelosi. None is given a chance of winning, but the point of the effort is to increase gay and lesbian membership in the state committee and be a voice for moderate Republicanism in a committee composed largely of conservatives. The judgment, which is "one of the largest awards of its kind," was handed down four weeks ago but made public Wednesday. In the civil lawsuit, Hill's former lover Thomas Lister charged that Hill knew he had HIV and repeatedly lied about his condition. Lister eventually discovered Hill's HIV status in a medical document after the two had engaged in unprotected sex. Lister tested positive for HIV in October 2000 and confronted Hill about his infection, but Hill continued to deny that he was HIV-positive. The suit also alleged that Hill, who was appointed by San Francisco Mayor Willie Brown (D) to the health commission in 1997 "in part to represent people with [HIV]," was suffering from symptoms of AIDS but told Lister he had cancer. Knowingly infecting another person with HIV is a felony under state law. So far, no criminal charges have been filed against Hill, but Lister said he will "press" for action, adding that he felt vindicated by the award. "For me it's a personal validation of the truth, finally. Post-1967, their goal became two-tracked: Either (1) destroy Israel outright (the same pre-1967 goal) or (2) the creation of an Arab-Palestinian state to be used as a launching pad from which to destroy Israel. Different strategies - same ultimate goal... a state not along side Israel, but IN PLACE OF Israel. It's really that simple! Israel became a nation in 1312B.C.E., two thousand years before the rise of Islam! Seven hundred and twenty-six years later in 586 B.C. these first ancient Jews in the Land of Israel [Judea] were overrun and its First Jewish Temple (on Jerusalem's Old City Temple Mount) was destroyed by Nebuchadnezzar, king of ancient Babylon. Many of the Jews were killed or expelled; however many were allowed to remain. These Jews along with their progeny and other Jews who would resettle over the next 500 years, rebuilt the Nation of Israel and also a Second Temple upon the Temple Mount. Thus the claim that Jews suddenly appeared fifty years ago right after the Holocaust and drove out the Arabs is preposterous! Then in 70 A.D. (nearly 2000 years ago), it was the Roman Empire's turn to march through ancient Israel and destroy the SECOND Jewish Temple, slaughtering or driving out much of its Jewish population. Many Jews left on their own because conditions for life were made unbearable in many respects... yet thousands upon thousands stayed and rebelled on for centuries in order to once again rebuilt a Jewish Nation in this Holy Land. Over the next 2,000 years various Peoples, Religions and Empires marched through Jerusalem, Israel's ancient capital. None bothered, nor were they in the least bit inclined, to build a Nation of their own. The region was successively ruled by the Greeks, Maccabeans, Romans, Byzantines, Arabs, Egyptians, Crusaders, Mamelukes and finally the Ottoman Turks who indifferently governed the backward, neglected territory from the 16th century until the British drove them out during World War I (1914-18). Although many volunteers were political neophytes in the beginning and their candidate lost, that did not seem to deter Mabon and others under the auspices of O.C.A. to continue in their battle against the moral and political corruption in our state. The Oregon Citizen's Alliance began to run initiatives. While their main thrust was to stop the homosexual agenda in Oregon, they also were strong pro-life supporters. This made O.C.A. an immediate enemy of not only the homosexual community but the mainline media and many moneyed business people who strongly support the homosexuals. Every campaign was thwarted by lies and misrepresentation by the homosexual community and endorsed by the mainline media. The homosexual opposition would manage to put their ads on the TV a few days before the election in the heavily populated areas where they knew the votes would be. Already strapped financially, this did not allow O.C.A. time to raise the money to counter the distortions. At one of the O.C.A. meetings, a photo journalist and homosexual-rights activist by the name of Catherine Stauffer attended the meeting uninvited. When asked to leave, she refused. Scott Lively then O.C.A. executive director, escorted her out of the meeting. She then had her frivolous assault and battery lawsuit which had been the plan all along. Judgments were granted to the plaintiff Stauffer in the amount of $30,000 each against O.C.A. and Scott Lively. Recognizing these were frivolous lawsuits designed to break an organization that was trying to stop the homosexual agenda in Oregon, neither Lively nor O.C.A. bothered to pay the judgment. This was 11 years ago. However, this lawsuit made Scott Lively decide if he couldn't beat 'em, he'd join 'em. This father and husband started law school and completed in record breaking time with top grades. Many O.C.A. supporters financially helped him with this endeavor. However, he discovered he could not get his license unless this $30,000 judgment was paid. Fund-raising letters finally helped him raise the required amount to settle the judgment which helped to sweeten the coffers of the homosexuals, the very group he'd been trying to defang. In the meantime, Lon Mabon and O.C.A. were still faced with their judgment and pressure was being mounted for them to pay the initial judgment of $30,000 plus interest for all the years that had passed. Mabon had been told earlier that the homosexuals were intent on breaking him. With every initiative he wrote, the vote was getting closer and closer to passage even with all the obstacles thrown in the way. In an e-mail dated February 21, 2002, Bonnie Mabon, O.C.A.'s treasurer and Lon's wife, said they came to a point where they couldn't afford an attorney so they decided to defend themselves and had a peace about their decision but miraculously, that same week the Lord sent a man to them who had been investigating the oaths of judges in Oregon for several years. In examining the underlying judgment and their case, it was determined the whole judgment was fraudulent and void because the judge that tried the case did not have a constitutional oath. He had self-worded his oath of office to the point that it was a far cry from the one he was suppose to take, which is laid out in the Constitution of the State of Oregon. In looking at the oaths of a lot of judges in Oregon, it was determined many had left out key words like "impartially." The judges now claim it was a clerical error. When all else fails, blame it on the secretary. Flow of illegals 'inevitable'August GribbinTHE WASHINGTON TIMES Published 3/27/2002 The steady, massive flow of legal and illegal Mexican immigrants in the United States cannot be stopped and won't decrease dramatically even if the Mexican economy blooms, U.S. and Mexican demographers say. "The migratory phenomenon between Mexico and the United states is structural and permanent," concludes a study by Mexico's National Population Council, a ministry of the Interior agency. The report, "Migration: Mexico-United States," concludes that by 2030, the Mexican-born U.S. population will at least double to 16 million to 18 million regardless of improvements in Mexico's economy. "Diverse factors such as geographic proximity, the asymmetrical and growing economic integration and intense relations and exchanges between both countries make the creation of migratory flow inevitable," it says. The council's report was published in Mexico in November but was ignored in this country until David Simcox, board chairman of the nonprofit Center for Immigration Studies, produced an analysis and summary of the document. Mr. Simcox made a copy available to The Washington Times last week. The document provides a statistical foundation for Mexico's insistence that the United States ease immigration restrictions for Mexicans while creating a "guest worker" program for Mexican laborers and "regularizing" the status of illegal border-crossers now in the United States. Prominent U.S. demographers who study Mexican immigration were questioned about points the study discussed. Although they have not yet seen the report, they tend to agree with its general observations. Some celebrate it. Marcelo M. Suarez-Orozco, a Harvard Graduate School professor and author who heads the university's Immigration Project says, "Without reference to politics and considering only the scientific framework, Mexico and the United States are Siamese twins. Immigration from Mexico is our history and our destiny. That is the basic dynamic of the situation seen after 20 years of study." Demographer Carl Haub of the Population Reference Bureau says, "It's reasonable to expect that the influx [of immigrants from Mexico] will continue. It's hard to see any reason that it wouldn't." It's widely believed that Mexicans flock to the United States principally because they are seeking a job and want to pursue the "American dream." So by most accounts, a widespread rise in the pay of Mexican workers, accompanying a major, large-scale improvement in Mexico's economy is one thing that would reduce the number of Mexicans crossing to the United States. But Mexico's population council says, "The most favorable economic conditions will express themselves in only slightly lower flows in the constant rate of migration," even if there is a simultaneous fall in the Mexican birthrate. Mr. Simcox has been studying Mexican immigration since 1986, and he says that given "the most favorable scenarios for Mexico's economy and U.S.-Mexican wage ratios ... annual emigration in 2030 will still approach 400,000 a year, 8.3 percent to 11.4 percent higher than the 370,000 estimated for 2000." That rings true, Mr. Suarez-Orozco explains, because half the immigrants come to the United States to be with family. "Someone said the formula for a happy life is based on love and work. That's why Mexicans migrate love of family and to get a good job." It's clear that as the number of Mexicans in the United States increases, the number of family members wishing to join them will too. But there are other reasons Mexicans move north. "Immigrating to the United States or moving back and forth across the border is ingrained in Mexican culture. Children in some parts of Mexico are raised with the understanding that they will grow up and work here," Mr. Simcox says. Moreover, Mexico's population council reports, illegal immigrants don't give up after a failed border-crossing attempt. Seven in 10 deportees intend to "try a new crossing in the next seven days ... a proportion significantly higher than observed in 1993-1994, when the figure was 59 percent." According to the report, most illegal immigrants "return to their effort within days or hours," and most consider "forced returns just part of the difficulty of the crossing." Mexicans' migration is not new. Mexicans roamed freely into and out of what is now U.S. territory before the United States was organized, and Mexicans have crossed the U.S. border legally and illegally for 100 years. In the first part of the 20th century, the border was almost entirely open. The migration caused little concern then, mostly because most immigrants did not stay in the United States. That question was settled through the costly War of 1861. In his recently published book, "The Real Lincoln," Thomas DiLorenzo marshals abundant unambiguous evidence that virtually every political leader of the time and earlier believed that states had a right of secession. Let's look at a few quotations. Thomas Jefferson in his First Inaugural Address said, "If there be any among us who would wish to dissolve this Union, or to change its republican form, let them stand undisturbed as monuments of the safety with which error of opinion may be tolerated where reason is left to combat it." Fifteen years later, after the New England federalists attempted to secede, Jefferson said, "If any state in the Union will declare that it prefers separation ... to a continuance in the union ... I have no hesitation in saying, 'Let us separate.'" At Virginia's ratification convention, the delegates said, "The powers granted under the Constitution being derived from the People of the United States may be resumed by them whensoever the same shall be perverted to their injury or oppression." In Federalist Paper 39, James Madison, the father of the Constitution, cleared up what "the people" meant, saying the proposed Constitution would be subject to ratification by the people, "not as individuals composing one entire nation, but as composing the distinct and independent States to which they respectively belong." In a word, states were sovereign; the federal government was a creation, an agent, a servant of the states. On the eve of the War of 1861, even unionist politicians saw secession as a right of states. Maryland Rep. Jacob M. Kunkel said, "Any attempt to preserve the Union between the States of this Confederacy by force would be impractical, and destructive of republican liberty." The northern Democratic and Republican parties favored allowing the South to secede in peace. Just about every major Northern newspaper editorialized in favor of the South's right to secede. New York Tribune (Feb. 5, 1860): "If tyranny and despotism justified the Revolution of 1776, then we do not see why it would not justify the secession of Five Millions of Southrons from the federal Union in 1861." Detroit Free Press (Feb. 19, 1861): "An attempt to subjugate the seceded States, even if successful could produce nothing but evil evil unmitigated in character and appalling in content." The New York Times (March 21, 1861): "There is growing sentiment throughout the North in favor of letting the Gulf States go." DiLorenzo cites other editorials expressing identical sentiments. Americans celebrate Abraham Lincoln's Gettysburg Address, but H.L. Mencken correctly evaluated the speech, "It is poetry not logic; beauty, not sense." Lincoln said that the soldiers sacrificed their lives "to the cause of self-determination government of the people, by the people, for the people should not perish from the earth." Mencken says: "It is difficult to imagine anything more untrue. The Union soldiers in the battle actually fought against self-determination; it was the Confederates who fought for the right of people to govern themselves." In Federalist Paper 45, Madison guaranteed: "The powers delegated by the proposed Constitution to the federal government are few and defined. Those which are to remain in the State governments are numerous and indefinite." The South seceded because of Washington's encroachment on that vision. Today, it's worse. Turn Madison's vision on its head, and you have today's America. DiLorenzo does a yeoman's job in documenting Lincoln's ruthlessness and hypocrisy, and how historians have covered it up. The framers had a deathly fear of federal government abuse. They saw state sovereignty as a protection. That's why they gave us the Ninth and 10th Amendments. Letter Exposes Jackson's Shakedown of GE Marc Morano, CNSNews.com Tuesday, March 26, 2002 Already under a barrage of criticism for allegedly "shaking down" American corporations, Jesse Jackson this month fired off a letter chastising General Electric for not including more minority firms in its recent multibillion-dollar bond sale. Jackson also provided a list of firms he referred to as "members" of his organization. CNSNews.com obtained a copy of the letter, which was authenticated by a spokeswoman for Jackson's Rainbow/PUSH coalition. The unsigned letter, addressed to GE Chairman and CEO Jeffrey R. Immelt, was dated March 14, one day after GE's $11 billion dollar bond offering, the second largest ever by a U.S. company. "What concerns me is the dearth of minority banks involved in any aspect of the deal," Jackson wrote. In the letter, Jackson also makes evident his frustration in not being able to influence GE. "We have written either you or [former GE Chairman and CEO] Jack Welch several times to address the need for GE to consider minority-owned financial services firms in all aspects of your treasury operations from pension fund management to investment banking advisory services. We received neither the courtesy of a telephone call nor a written response," Jackson wrote. Jackson notes that GE's lack of a response was expected. "This action is not surprising given our history with you ... " Jackson wrote. His opinion about GE's commitment to minorities is also clear in the letter. "It is disappointing to think that GE, one of America's most innovative and respected companies, doesn't feel that any minority owned firms have the capability to be part of what will probably be one of the largest bond offerings in 2002," the letter states. Moulin Rouge Sucks Moulin Rouge Sucks No, really, it does. And don't let its eight Oscar nominations fool you into believing otherwise. by David Skinner 03/21/2002 12:00:00 AM David Skinner, assistant managing editor HERE'S MY considered opinion of "Moulin Rouge": It sucks. There's no need to get defensive. It's no big deal. A lot of movies suck. But then again, a lot of movies don't snag eight Oscar nominations. Okay, okay, calm down. The truth hurts, I know. In fact, the movie's suckiness was, in fact, a bit of a disappointment to me, too. I rather like several of the actors involved, and I adored director Baz Luhrmann's "Romeo + Juliet" a few years back. Sadly, I was one of a very small number of people who seemed to realize how bad "Moulin Rouge" was. After the Oscar nominations came out, there were those other awards, you know, the ones that are supposed to predict the Oscar winners, and everywhere I looked this crapalicious pseudo-musical was being feted. It made me wonder if my hostility to the picture was rooted in ignorance. See, I haven't watched all that many musicals, so I decided to rent a few. My choices were "West Side Story," "Cabaret," and "My Fair Lady." These weren't picked from a hat, of course. They are the three most Oscar-winning musical movies ever. And here's what I learned. It's not musicals that suck, it's only "Moulin Rouge." An important thing to know about musicals (I just learned this myself) is that they have music original to themselves. And, in fact, the quality of their music is a primary criterion for judging their overall quality. In fact, a musical without its very own music would be something like a drama without any drama. Yes, yes, I realize I don't know that much about musicals. One of my most shameful memories ever is falling in love with Andrew Lloyd Webber's "Cats" when I was in fourth grade. (No, really, it was kind of cool when those slinky feline creatures crawled into the audience rows.) So I can't actually make any claims about having the most exquisite taste in the world, but this thing about musicals having original musical was, until the Oscar nominations, kind of a hard and fast rule. Furthermore, stringing together numerous, unrelated pop songs to merely tickle the memory chords of an audience was something only insufferable piano-lounge hacks were supposed to do. Now back to these other musicals. Not only was their music original, but their songs constituted a permanent contribution to the culture. "Wilkommen," the opening song from "Cabaret," "Tonight" and "America" from "West Side Story," or "Get Me To The Church On Time" and "On The Street Where You Live" from "My Fair Lady" represented net additions to preexisting music. Now, as far as I can tell, "Moulin Rouge" is merely borrowing music that was already around. Which means that, musically, "Moulin Rouge" offers nothing. The storylines of the three classics I saw were also much, much stronger. Even after watering down George Bernard Shaw's "Pygmalion," "My Fair Lady" was bursting with character and ideas. Rex Harrison as the mischievous, self-pleasing misogynist versus the romantic-souled "guttersnipe," played beautifully by Audrey Hepburn (though of course sung by someone else), helped provide a thoughtful and even wise comedy about men and women. More than any individual performer, New York City provided a wonderful geometric vision to a running, splaying choreography that made me laugh only about three or four times in "West Side Story." The warring of sides and the two romantic hearts in between--borrowed of course from Shakespeare's "Romeo and Juliet"--made for an excellent story of gangs and young love. Not a great character movie, but a splendid picture show with several classic songs. "Cabaret" I feared the most, having never seen any version of it. But the movie was hilarious, erotic, and unnerving--a double picture of sensual amoralism oblivious to the raised fist of Nazi evil. As for the performances: I now understand why Joel Grey is forever associated with the role of the emcee; and you'd have to be gay to have enjoyed Liza Minnelli's Sally Bowles more than I did. "Moulin Rouge," which had been hyped by its director and others as an homage to the heyday of music on the silver screen, is really an embarrassment to the great Hollywood musical. Its story (one area where it might have compensated for its lack of original music) is a 19th century dime-store melodrama that uses the phoniest dramatic devices imaginable to keep it moving. (Somehow, audiences love to be reminded of songs written five years ago, but are totally amnesiac when it comes to age-old melodramatic cliches about starving artists and dying beauties.) Only in its spectacular picture-book cinematography can "Moulin Rouge" lay claim to singularity. And if the movie's visual teams win awards, justice will have been done

She believes it is her "job just to increase awareness."Double Daddy's lyrics weren't written solely for same-sex partners and their children. "Danny has a daddy and a daddy at home -- It's a double double daddy and he's never alone." And, according to the song, "when you double the daddy ... you double the fun."Another song, "Oh What a Mess (Billy's wearing a dress)," is simply about "a little boy who likes to wear a dress," Universe said."I think the idea there is that it's not a bad idea to wear a dress, but the institution says it is, so you just have to be careful about what you do," Universe said. "You know, we don't generally like boys to wear dresses to school and it's the rule, but no one really knows why it's the rule, so Billy chose to test the rule."But she noted that not every song has a message."There are four or five songs that have clear and distinct messages about sexuality and refer to gay parents or refer to children who may be gay," Universe said. "You know, it just alludes to it. It doesn't necessarily say it."The album's "Tolerance" song does not make any reference to homosexuality. Monday, March 25, 2002 2:04 p.m. EST Leo: Sex Scandal Priests Not Pedophiles The sex scandal rocking the Catholic Church has been wrongly characterized as one of pedophilia, says U.S. News & World Report columnist John Leo. "True pedophiles are rare," he contends, citing statistics that show 5 percent or less of priests accused of molesting children actually fit that description. "Most sexual victims of priests are teenage boys, according to one estimate. A study of Chicago's 2,200 priests identified 40 sexual abusers, only one of whom was a pedophile." The distinction may have important legal implications. The church expects to be hit with an avalanche of lawsuits filed by victims who assert officials acted irresponsibly by merely reassigning offending priests to different parishes after psychiatric treatment. But, notes Leo, "Abusers of teens are generally treatable. Pedophiles aren't." That argument could let church officials reasonably claim that they believed priest-abusers who had received treatment had been rehabilitated. So why aren't church officials themselves pointing out the distinction? "Most likely because opening up the issue of sexually-active gay priests is itself explosive, even apart from charges of abuse," surmises Leo. March 11, 2002 The Truth About Government Debt Deficit spending is back in the news lately, largely because the Democrats want to blame any projected 2003 deficits on the very modest Bush tax cut. Of course tax cuts, which stimulate the economy and generally produce increased revenues, are not the problem at all- but nobody wants to focus on the real problem, which is runaway spending. The bottom line is that our federal government almost always manages to spend more than it brings in each year in revenues. This is particularly troubling when we consider that taxes take more out of the legitimate private economy (as a percentage of GDP) than at any time since World War II. Still, Treasury Secretary O'Neill recently asked Congress to raise the "debt ceiling," which is based on a federal law that sets a limit on the total amount of debt the US government can have. The current debt ceiling is about $5.9 trillion (roughly the current national debt); O'Neill wants it raised to $6.7 trillion. The reason is that Congress is expected to increase spending even faster than usual over the next few years due to the war on terror. Raising the debt ceiling is nothing new. We last raised it during the Clinton era, despite that administration's claims that the budget was balanced each year. This can be refuted quite simply, because the national debt continued to rise throughout the 1990s. Obviously, if federal spending truly was being outpaced by revenues, the debt would not have increased. So how did the Clinton administration make it appear that annual spending did not exceed annual revenues? Mostly by using Social Security revenues to cover the difference, even though Social Security taxes are supposed to be held in a trust fund and not spent on other federal programs. Yet few Americans know that their Social Security taxes are never segregated or saved by the federal government, but rather spent immediately as general funds. Your Social Security benefits are nothing more than IOUs that are completely dependent on future revenues. Federal Reserve chairman Greenspan recently endorsed a political trick to make the debt seem smaller simply by redefining those IOUs. The current law treats certain government obligations such as Social Security payments and veteran pensions as debts, meaning they must be included within the permitted debt ceiling. Of course they are debts, just like any other bill that will have to be paid in the future. Greenspan would have us redefine these obligations as "intergovernment accounts," which magically changes them from debts to "accrued liabilities." This semantic shift would free up lots of room under the debt ceiling for more borrowing. Congress could even use this approach to lower the ceiling and claim a victory for fiscal responsibility while still borrowing more! The reality, of course, is that those old debts will still exist, but we won't have to think about them for a few more years. Debt and credit, wisely used, can be proper tools for individuals and businesses. After all, individuals often want to expand by starting families and buying houses, while businesses want to expand by hiring more employees and increasing their capacity. In a free society, however, we can never view expansion as a proper goal for government. Unlike a private sector business, our federal government should not be seeking out new ways to increase the scope of its dubious "services." Any government that consumes 40% of the most productive economy in the world and still can't balance its books is a government that vastly overspends. A cursory examination of the annual appropriations bills reveals incredible amounts of unconstitutional, wasteful, and truly unnecessary spending. This uncontrolled spending allows government to grow far beyond its proper constitutional parameters, while also threatening the very solvency of future generations. So I disagree with the supply-side argument that government debt doesn't matter. The issue is not whether the Treasury has sufficient current income to service the debt, but rather whether a government that spends so much is leading us to ruin. Debt does matter, especially to future generations that will be asked to pay for our extravagance. When government borrows money, the actual borrowers- big spending administrations and politicians- never have to pay it back. Remember, administrations come and go, members of congress become highly-paid lobbyists, and bureaucrats retire with fat pensions. The benefits of deficit spending are enjoyed immediately by the politicians, who trade pork for votes and enjoy adulation for promising to cure every social ill. The bills always come due later, however- and nobody ever looks back and says, "Congressman so-and-so got us into this mess when he voted for all that spending 20 years ago." My condemnation of male circumcision stimulated quite an interesting dialogue in the Go Postal Forum of FrontPage. Some of my critics accused me of anti-Semitism because of my stance against male circumcision. I was somewhat perplexed and saddened by this accusation and decided not to answer by just saying the first thing that came to my head. Having thought this question over for a few months, I am now ready to return to this minefield. The question of anti-Semitism in the context of circumcision is a very intriguing issue. It prompts the vital question: is anti-Semitism, or even Jewishness itself, defined by the issue of circumcision? I am Jew. There have been many of my Jewish brothers and sisters who have, throughout the years, informed me that I am not. My father is a Jew in the ethnic sense. All of his life he fought on behalf of his people, especially those Jews who were persecuted behind the Iron Curtain. My mother is a half Jew, with a Jewish father and a Slavic mother. In the eyes of many Jews, therefore, who believe that Jewishness descends through the maternal line, my mom is seen as a Slav. For this reason, therefore, many Jews have denied me the right to my Jewishness. Fair enough. But I cant help from wondering: how are Jews to account for the millions of their brothers and sisters who were persecuted in the Soviet Union for their ethnicity and not for their religion? Many of these persecuted individuals had non-Jewish mothers. Many of them were not circumcised. Yet they were the victims of the Soviet regimes anti-Semitism. Unlike many of my critics, I was born and raised under the Soviet regime, and my familys Jewish blood brought real persecution. The KGB persecuted my family because, aside from other reasons, it could smell our Jewishness a mile away. My family is Christian. We believe that Jesus Christ is the Messiah and that He has fulfilled the prophecies of the Old Testament. My father always openly stated that he was a Jewish-Christian. He was sharply criticized by other Jews for doing so. But he steadfastly refused to deny his Jewishness in light of his Christianity. And so do I. Let us now blend with this reality the fact that my Jewish family did not engage in the practice of male circumcision. I am not circumcised. Do these phenomena put my Jewishness into question? Is there any legitimacy to the charge of anti-Semitism against me for these reasons alone? Am I an anti-Semitic Jew because I believe that a human being should be consulted for his consent before his penis is mutilated? The evidence that substantiates that male circumcision does vital damage to the sexual pleasure of both males and females is irrefutable. I recommend Kristen and Jeffrey OHaras book Sex As Nature Intended It for all of those who question this established fact. And as I discussed in my second column on circumcision, the mutilation of the foreskin also damages a males emotional and mental health -- no matter when the violence was inflicted. We know that Jesus Christ was a Jew. He brought us the message of the law no longer being engraved on tables of stone but upon the hearts of men. (2 Corinthians 3: 2-3) This was the New Testament message about the circumcision of the heart. (Acts 15:1-21) There is also the profound and sacred reality of the Covenant of Abraham in Genesis 17, where God instructs the circumcision of eight-day-old baby boys. But a vital question remains: was not the New Testament message of the circumcision of the heart also rooted in the Old Testament? And does it not deserve attention and respect? This is not to suggest that religious Jews must become Christians. It is only to raise the point that certain ideas and practices in Christianity have a foundation in the Old Testament. Is it possible, then, that circumcision has always been meant to be an outward representation of the human beings inner disposition toward, and covenant with, God as Christian sources suggest? If so, then what if a persons inner spiritual disposition is wholesome? Does the fact that he might not be physically marked negate his inner covenant with God? For Jews, is there an inner covenant without physical circumcision? We know that in other parts of the Old Testament, circumcision is indeed a symbolic act. It represents something internal. For instance, in Leviticus 26:41, God understands idolatry and disobedience to be the product of an uncircumcised heart. In Deuteronomy 10:16; 30:6, God describes his covenant as a circumcision of the heart.

James Traficant, the flamboyant Ohio Democrat, may finally get his wish and be beamed up and out of the House chamber by his colleagues. Expulsion - the political equivalent of the death penalty - is a step so severe it has been taken only once since the Civil War. But with Traficant stumbling badly against a solid wall of witnesses describing more than 18 years of lucrative corruption, the possibility that he may be expelled is beginning to be talked about in Congressional corridors. "We haven't crossed this bridge in a long time," said a senior Democratic aide in the House, "but the charges are very bad and the stuff that has been coming out in the trial is very bad. The charges are so serious that if he is found guilty, there are people who wouldn't be able to take it and want him out." Democrats may have the most to gain by expelling Traficant. Although he represents a solidly Democratic district, Traficant has been a major thorn to the House Democratic leadership, consistently voting with Republicans and even supporting Dennis Hastert (R-Ill.) for Speaker over Minority Leader Richard Gephardt (Mo.). Traficant, of course, has already been carved out of his Congressional district and has vowed to run an uphill campaign as an Independent against another incumbent, Rep. Tom Sawyer, a whistle-clean, eight-term Democrat who is favored to win the May 7 primary. Traficant has been charged with 10 felony counts of bribery, racketeering, tax evasion, fraud and obstruction of justice. If convicted, he faces more than 60 years in prison and hundreds of thousands of dollars in fines. Legal experts viewing the trial say Traficant is doing a terrible job of representing himself. "He's getting killed," said Don Hanni, an Ohio criminal defense attorney who is one of the lawmaker's closest friends. His cross-examinations of prosecution witnesses have been particularly self-destructive, with Traficant eliciting assertions from several of his former employees that he is a liar. One witness, under questioning by the Congressman, even suggested to the jury that Traficant may have been involved in a plot to murder another potential witness. The prosecution, meanwhile, has methodically produced dozens of witnesses all telling of Traficant's alleged misdeeds, and the judge has controlled the defendant's antics with an iron hand. Members of the jury, according to the Youngstown Business-Journal, appear to be put off by Traficant, particularly with some of his crude remarks during the proceedings. Prosecutors appear likely to wrap up their case within two weeks. Traficant's defense presentation remains unclear, and he has given few hints about how he plans to conduct it. But the jury could get the case by the end of the month. If convicted, Traficant has already planned to appeal on a number of issues. But the precedents of the House allow the Congressional disciplinary process to begin as soon as the verdict is read. Even after a felony conviction, Traficant would be allowed to vote on the House floor. The House rule concerning convicted felons who happen to be lawmakers states only that they "should refrain" from legislative business; it doesn't mean they must refrain. And the prospect of having a convicted felon voting to make law has touched off political firestorms and high drama in the recent past. Former Speaker Newt Gingrich (R-Ga.) launched a Congressional career attacking ethically challenged colleagues just hours after he was sworn in as a freshman in 1979, when he moved to expel then Rep. Charles Diggs (D-Mich.). Diggs, a 13-term lawmaker from Detroit and leader of the Congressional Black Caucus, was convicted in October 1978 on 29 counts of taking kickbacks from his Congressional staff salaries and was sentenced to three years in prison. Despite the conviction, he was re-elected in November. Diggs defiantly continued to vote on the floor after his re-election and said he would continue to do so until his appeals were exhausted. The Democratic Caucus refused to restrain him, and Gingrich seized on the issue. In a Washington Post op-ed, the freshman Member from Georgia imagined a close vote on a law that passed because of Diggs' vote. "How can a Congressman then go back to the people and ask them to obey what obviously is a controversial law when it was passed by someone who flouts the law? The legislative precedent and common sense both argue Charles Diggs should refrain from voting." Firefighters Protest Appearance in Gay Pride Parade PROVIDENCE, R.I. Firefighters who were allegedly forced by the city government to ride in a gay pride parade last year despite religious and moral objections are threatening to sue unless officials make participation in future parades voluntary. Last June, members of Engine Company No. 7 rode on an engine through downtown Providence as part of the privately-run parade. The fire department's policy is to send personnel and equipment to public events whenever requested to do so, provided they can be spared, according to Fire Chief James Rattigan. Steven Brown, executive director of the state American Civil Liberties Union, wrote a letter to Rattigan that "[a] number of firefighters apparently objected to this assignment, having sincere moral and religious objections to being in such a parade." Their objections were ignored, according to Brown. Brown, on behalf of three of the firefighters participating in the parade, demanded a promise from city officials that only willing volunteers would be asked to participate in the future. "If they're not willing to give that assurance, then we'll have to consider litigation," Brown said later. City Solicitor Charles Mansolillo sent a reply on Friday, but that reply did not indicate any change in policy. The firefighters' desire not to participate in the parade should not be interpreted as anti-homosexual prejudice, Brown said. "The fact that they are not supporters of gay rights doesn't mean that they're not going to put out a fire at a gay person's home," Brown said. "They're professionals and they're asking to be treated as professionals and not be forced to partake in something that has nothing to do with their jobs." This June will mark the 27th year the parade has been held. Mayor Vincent Cianci Jr. will serve as its grand marshal. "The department believes that such regular involvement in local and community celebration adds to the whole of the festivities and fosters a public perspective on the fire department and related public safety issues," Mansolillo wrote in his response to Brown's letter. "Firefighters' inclusion in the parade is generally an important demonstration of community solidarity," Jennifer Levi of the Boston-based Gay and Lesbian Advocates and Defenders said. Alexis Gorrianan, the mayor's liaison to the gay community and president of the Rhode Island Pride Committee, which runs the parade, did not return a call for comment. FREEMAN, Herald News Staff Reporter March 09, 2002 Despite a wave of anti-immigrant sentiment since the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks, a group of House Democrats is pushing to eliminate what they see as unfair provisions in the nation's deportation laws. On Thursday, members of the House Judiciary Committee -- including U.S. Rep. Barney Frank, D-Mass., and U.S. Rep. John Conyers, D-Mich. -- joined members of the Congressional Black Caucus at a press conference in Washington, D.C. They called for passage of the Restoration of Fairness in Immigration Law Act of 2000, which Conyers said would restore "our nation's long-standing compassion for individuals seeking to build a better life and reunite with their families." It's designed to reverse what the lawmakers see as a series of measures that hurt the immigrant community. "The bill restores fairness to the immigration process by making sure that each person has a chance to have their case heard by a fair and impartial decision maker," Conyers said. "No one here is looking to give immigrants a free ride, just a fair chance," Conyers said. Frank had filed a similar bill in the past two sessions. It was twice approved by the House, only to die in the U.S. Senate. It would give the U.S. Immigration Service the discretion to take into account the personal and family circumstances of people who are facing deportation for certain categories of less serious crimes. That discretion was taken away in 1996 when Congress approved a new immigrant deportation law. It called for the automatic deportation of any immigrant convicted of a felony, and the law was applied retroactively, to crimes committed before 1996. If Frank's bill becomes law, instead of facing virtually automatic deportation in cases involving minor crimes committed before 1996, green card holders with families and jobs in the United States could petition immigration judges to let them stay in this country. Conyers, the ranking member of the House Judiciary Committee, said the bill is being introduced to stop the scapegoating of the nation's immigrants. "Since this nation's founding, more than 55 million immigrants from every continent have settled in the United States," Conyers said. "Immigrants work hard to make ends meet and pay taxes every day. They have lived in this country for decades, married U.S. citizens, and raised their U.S.-citizen children." Drafting laws that "single these people out for no other reason than their status as immigrants," he said, "violate their fundamental right to fair treatment." Conyers accused Congress of pushing a "wave of anti-immigrant legislation" since 1994, "playing on our worst fears and prejudices." Recent proposals include plans to ban birthright citizenship, prohibit bilingual ballots and limit the number of refugees allowed in this country. The worst, he said, was the 1996 Welfare Reform Law cutting off federally funded public benefits to immigrants. "Recently we have seen the tragedy of September 11 used as an excuse for even more assaults on the rights of immigrants," Conyers said. "The Justice Department is now holding deportation hearings in secret and detaining immigrants even after they are ordered released. The Attorney General (John Ashcroft) is reducing both the independence and number of judges that handle the appeals of immigration cases. We are fending off legislation almost daily intended to reduce, if not eliminate, immigration to this country." Conyers said it was important to extend basic protections to all people living in this country, including legal immigrants. "Those who urge us to restrict the due process rights of immigrants forget the reason these rights were established in the first place," he said. "We grant due process rights to citizens and non-citizens alike; not out of some soft-hearted sentimentality, but because we believe that these rights form an important cornerstone to maintaining civilized society." The lawmakers pledged to make this bill just the first in a series of measures aimed at providing more fairness for immigrants. "Justice and fairness, as well as our own economic interests, demand no less," Conyers said. He and Frank were joined at the press conference by more than 60 immigration and advocacy groups, including the National Council of La Raza, the American Immigration Lawyers Association, the Immigration and Refugee Services of America, the National Immigration Forum, the American Civil Liberties Union, and the National Organization of Women Legal Defense and Education Fund. Police said the passengers, whose names were not released, admitted smoking crack cocaine and having sex in the cramped rest room. The miles-high ordeal began about 8:15 a.m. Friday on the London-to-New York flight, said an American Airlines spokeswoman. Flight attendants complained to the pilot that the two men were acting suspiciously, making four or five trips to the rest room together. "A captain had requested that the local authorities meet the two passengers at the gate at Kennedy," said airline spokeswoman Sonja Whitemon. Air Force Listens In Air Force officials overheard the captain's radio dispatch to American Airlines operations and sent two F-16s to intercept the jetliner over the Atlantic Ocean, said Federal Aviation Administration officials. Whitemon insisted the airplane's crew did not ask for the military escort. "The captain requested that that not happen because he didn't believe the situation was that serious, but it happened anyway," Whitemon said. The two passengers were asleep when the plane touched down at JFK and were escorted off by Port Authority, Customs and FAA agents. No drugs were found on the men, who were not charged with any crimes. Immigration officials denied them entry into the country because they admitted smoking crack in the rest room, law enforcement officials said. Agenda Phil Brennan, NewsMax.comSaturday, Feb. 9, 2002 In part one of this series on William McGowan's book "Coloring the News: How Crusading for Diversity Has Corrupted American Journalism," NewsMax.com reported on how, in the name of "diversity," American journalism manipulates the news concerning racial matters. In this second of our three-part series we show how, and why, a political agenda has damaged honest coverage of homosexual issues. Four decades ago, media coverage of homosexuality was universally hostile. McGowan recalls Time magazine's description of homosexuality as a "pathetic little second-rate substitute for reality, a pitiable flight from life" deserving "no encouragement, no glamorization, no rationalization, no fake status as minority martyrdom, no sophistry about simple differences in taste, and above all no pretence that it is anything but a pernicious sickness." Straight News quoted Mike Wallace as calling the average homosexual "promiscuous" and "not interested in or capable of a lasting relationship like that of a heterosexual marriage." In 1974 the Los Angeles Times referred to homosexuals as "fags" on its front page. McGowan notes that as late as the 1980s homosexual reporters were mistreated by their editors. How times have changed. Big Media's commitment to increase the number of homosexual reporters and editors has succeeded to the point where at the New York Times alone, according to McGowan, "three of the [newspaper's] top political reporters, an advertising columnist, theater critic, film critic, architecture critic and classical music critic are all openly gay, along with the page-one picture editor and the top editor of its Sunday magazine "But the notion that the presence of more openly gay reporters in the newsroom has translated into more and better coverage of gay issue, is, I think, without foundation." McGowan explains that the presence of homosexuals in the newsroom has "intensified the attention given to incidents where gays have been the victims of homophobia." He cites the widely publicized case of Matthew Shepard, the gay Wyoming youth who "was lured from a bar by two thugs in the fall of 1998, beaten unconscious and left to die, tied to a fence post in sub-freezing temperatures." "The implicit assumption of the coverage was that Shepard had fallen victim to the often invisible but always sinister homophobia embedded deeply in American society, a pathology that could only be cured by hate crimes legislation." Frank Rich Blames Shepard Murder on Trent Lott The Times' Frank Rich typified the hysterical reaction of pro-gay liberal columnists. He described the killing as an outrage "that happened against the backdrop of a campaign in which the far right, abetted by political leaders like Trent Lott, was demonizing gay people as sick and sinful." Compare the avalanche of press coverage given to the Shepard case with the coverage concerning the murder of 13-year old Jesse Dirkhising and the trial of two homosexual neighbors who killed him. Commenting on the scanty coverage of that case, McGowan notes that "when homosexuals are the perpetrators of violence instead of the victims the sense of moral urgency seems to vanish." The details of the Dirkhising case were incredibly gruesome, involving the very worst kind of homosexual behaviors - the boy was tied to a bed, had underwear shoved into his mouth, which was also covered with duct tape. "As one man stood in a doorway and masturbated, the other raped the boy for hours, using a variety of foreign objects, including food," McGowan reports. He was left to die slowly of suffocation. Yet the coverage given to the case, compared with that given the Shepard murder, which was far less brutal and had no sexual overtones, was minuscule. Leftist Media Cover Up Dirkhising Murder McGowan did a Nexus search and learned that the Shepard case generated a massive 3,007 stories. "And when the case finally went to trial ... it was all over the broadcast news, received front-page coverage in all major newspapers, and was featured on the cover of Time magazine. (In all, the New York Times ran 195 stories about the case.)" "In the month after the Dirkhising murder, however, Nexus recorded only 46 stories. The New York Times and the Los Angeles Times, CNN, ABC, CBS and NBC ignored the story altogether and continued to do so through the March 2001 trial of one of the murderers which resulted in a conviction. Over the past decade, increasing numbers of children have dropped this bombshell on devastated parents. However, when one daughter recently said this after returning from a Massachusetts school, the mother was more perplexed than devastated-her daughter was only 9 years old. "Well, honey, what makes you think you're a lesbian?" asked the mother. "Today we had some people come in our class, and they told us what it means to be gay. That's when you love someone that's like you, and you don't like the boys. Because I love my friend, Sara, we know that we're going to get married when we grow older. That means we're gay." If the National Education Association (NEA) has its way, this conversation will be replayed in millions of homes across the country. At its annual convention during the first week of July, the world's largest teachers union will consider a resolution promoting programs and curricula designed to normalize homosexuality. According to the resolution, the NEA seeks to indoctrinate PreK-12 students with pro-gay messages by "disseminati[ng] programs and information that include the contributions, heritage, culture and history of gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender people." To create these programs, the NEA calls for the "involvement of gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender educators in developing educational material used in classroom instructions." The resolutions also support using "gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender education employees as role models" and call for "coordination with gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender organizations" in inundating schools with gay-friendly curricula and programs. Apparently, the NEA has abandoned teachers and students in favor of the latest in-vogue cause and in so doing show its true colors-an ultra-liberal organization far out of the mainstream and dedicated to half-truths dangerous to children. To begin, while the NEA believes schools are the proper avenue for advancing homosexual causes, the mainstream public clearly disagrees. A Phi Delta Kappan/Gallup poll indicates that 63 percent of Americans oppose "teaching about the gay and lesbian lifestyle as a part of the curriculum in public schools," and only 9 percent believe it should be presented as "an acceptable alternative lifestyle." Worse yet, through its membership of 2.3 million public school teachers, the NEA wields enormous clout in school districts and implements its agenda on a captive audience of tens of millions of children. With a population of 2.6 million teachers in U.S. public schools and more than 2 million of those NEA members, you do the math. One only need look at recent instances in schools to see how the NEA's resolutions would play out in classrooms. In Marin County, Calif., all second- through fifth-graders at Pleasant Valley School were called to an assembly put on by a local theater group. The group taught the children slogans such as, "I'm gay and it's OK." The skits included one in which Rapunzel cut her hair and ran away with her girlfriend. Montpelier, Vt., high school students were taken to an unannounced assembly. Once there, they were presented with a panel entirely made up of gays, lesbians, and bisexuals who talked about how happy, healthy and productive they are. Hayward, Calif., elementary school students were forced to hear about their teacher's homosexual lifestyle after the teacher's homosexual partner sent flowers to him in the class. Finally, missing from the NEA's plans is "the rest of the story." If the NEA wants to tell kids about this contentious issue, at least give them the real truth. They ought to talk about the dangerous health risks accompanying homosexuality, including syphilis, damage to the intestinal tract and the mother of all STDs, AIDS. In that discussion, kids should be given the latest CDC statistics, which indicate a substantial increase of new AIDS infections in gay adolescents and those in their early 20s. In 75 percent of those, the disease was sexually transmitted. The NEA should inform students how many gays feel alienated from family, separated from God and emotionally devastated due to promiscuity. And they should tell kids they have another option to being gay, as demonstrated by the thousands of ex-gay men and women who left homosexuality and now lead straight lives, many married with children. The Crucifixion of Christianity Phil Brennan Wednesday, Feb. 6, 2002 If anyone has any doubt that Christianity is under attack, they need go no further than the front pages of America's newspapers or their TV screens to see the proof. Christians, we are told, are no better than the Taliban, and would readily adopt measures similar to those employed by the ousted rulers of Afghanistan against the people of that nation should they gain political power in America. Many Christians, their critics say, tend to oppose socially beneficial programs such as handing out condoms to teenagers and Olympic athletes, are vehement in their condemnation of a woman's alleged right to choose to butcher the baby in her womb, and fail to support so-called gay rights measures. Outright attacks that would never be condoned if launched against any other group are regularly aimed at the Roman Catholic Church, yet draw no condemnation from the liberal U.S. media, which in their elitist mindset, view Catholicism as a creed whose adherents rank low on the social and intellectual scale. A recent example of this is a lengthy cover story in the Jan. 21 issue of the leftist New Republic magazine: "What Would Jesus Have Done? Pope Pius, the Vatican, and the Holocaust," by Daniel Jonah Goldhagen. Aside from misstating or distorting the facts concerning Pope Pius XII's actions in helping Jews during World War II, Goldhagen goes on the attack against Christianity itself. As H.W. Crocker III, author of "Triumph: The Power and the Glory of the Catholic Church, a 2,000-Year History," wrote in NewsMax.com Feb. 5: "The New Republic article is especially important because it shows that anti-Catholic hate is being 'mainstreamed.'" Goldhagens piece, Crocker charges, "resurrects, in essence, Voltaires old battle cry of 'crush the infamous thing' by which Voltaire meant the Catholic Church. But unlike Voltaire, who had wit the Jesuits educated him, after all Goldhagen, a professor with yet another anti-Catholic book to sell, is a mere blunt instrument of abuse." That same "mainstream media" can't wait to find examples of misbehavior among the Roman Catholic priesthood, headlining every instance of sexual abuse on the part of members of the clergy. While it is certainly legitimate to expose such criminal acts on the part of the Catholic clergy, it is not legitimate to fail to emphasize that Catholic priests are no more apt to engage in sinful activity than their Protestant or Jewish colleagues. Sin is not the exclusive property of Catholic priests. Yet it is the Catholic priesthood that gets the attention when one of their number commits sexual crimes. In recent weeks the media have had a field day trumpeting the disgusting failure of the Catholic hierarchy in the Archdiocese of Boston in concealing grievous instances of pedophilia among the priesthood, moving known pedophile priests from parish to parish where they could continue to molest youngsters in their charge instead of turning them over to the authorities for punishment. The failure of Cardinal Law and other members of the diocesan hierarchy to deal with this cancer exposed countless numbers of innocent youths to the horrors of sexual abuse at the hands of their priests. It was inexcusable behavior, and the cardinal should acknowledge his culpability by stepping down. The diocese should be shaken up and all those who had a part in the outrage removed from their posts and sent packing. There are no excuses for this implicit condoning of criminal and moral depravity on the part of priests none. A pedophile is a pedophile whether or not he wears a Roman collar. That having been said, the behavior of the media, which have conspicuously drooled over the opportunity the scandal has presented them to attack the Catholic church without fear of being charged with outright bigotry, needs to be examined. Keep in mind the fact that the overwhelming majority of the media elite are proponents of gay rights and all other goals of the homosexual activists. Just how often to you see media condemnations of homosexual behavior in the mainstream media? Now also keep in mind the fact that these pedophile priests were molesting young boys not young girls. The pedophile priests were, by definition and practice, homosexuals, or "gay," as members of the exquisite community prefer to be called. Yet there hasn't been so much as a whisper in the mainstream media of this rather obvious fact. The homosexual aspects of the scandal are carefully ignored. A media that have, by and large, supported punishing the Boy Scouts of America for daring to protect its members from being preyed upon by homosexual pedophile scoutmasters are not rushing to defend the Boston Catholic archdiocese for protecting the "gay rights" of pedophile priests.
