CS: Legal-Ryan
From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] I'm not sure that Ryan's club membership is relevant as there was no legal requirement to be a member of a club prior to the 1997 Act. Steve. But they did give him authority for it even though he only had access to a pistol range. Therefore he could not satisfy the good reason requirement. Jonathan Laws -- You didn't have to be a member of a club to satisfy "good reason". If he had an FAC he could shoot on any club's rifle range in the country. "Access" constituted walking in, showing the right paperwork and paying the range fee. I know plenty of people even now who have a pistol range as their primary club but have authority for a 7.62mm or whatever and go and shoot at Bisley. Steve. CS: Pol-South Africa passes new gun law
From: Alex Holmes, [EMAIL PROTECTED] Source: http://news2.thls.bbc.co.uk/hi/english/world/africa/newsid_969000/969369.stm SA targets guns By Carolyn Dempster in South Africa South Africa's parliament has approved a controversial new gun law which places stricter controls on legal firearm owners in a bid to curb violent crime. As usual this article hasn't quite gotten things right. The new legislation has passed it's first hurdle in Parliament but still has a long way to go before becoming Law and we are now on rewrite number 92. Would a short summary of the contents of the Bill be of interest to the group? Alex Holmes South Africa -- Certainly. Steve. CS: Legal-Devon
From: "niel fagan", [EMAIL PROTECTED] I think we need to watch this development very carefully as it is an angle that has been mooted before as a possible requirement on shooters ie that anyone going shooting should inform the police when and where they are going. For some it is part of a process of suggestions aimed at making shooting unviable. It may also be interesting to know who is making complaints and whether complaints are coming from people who are opposed to live quarry shooting. Well my dear old (and now dead) dad, had precisely this happen to him whilst shooting rabbits on a football clubs grounds. THREE arv's and boxer1 (boxer 2, as in too late, too expensive etc) the air support unit were sent to "check him out". One officer in full ballistic kit and with a pistol in his hand walked up shouting to drop the weapon, he didn't, but merely opened the action and put it carefully on the ground (you don't throw good shotguns around), whilst dad was covered by two others in the stands with mp5's and one lying on the ground semi hidden behind the arv with a "sniper" rifle. The one approaching told him to lie on the ground, and got told where to get off, which flummoxed him a bit from what dad told me. After all the documents were checked, serial number of the gun recorded etc, the officer demanded several samples from the cartridge belt "just to check that they were legal"He was then told next time to phone both the local station and HQ to let them know where he was going to be shooting, just so he wasn't bothered. So he did, and every time an arv was seen stopped observing him for at least 10 minutes. The other problem I know of involves some wildfowlers who inform the local station and HQ by post before the season starts of the the active shooters list, who their duty wardens (who work with the RSPB wardens, and every shooter has to do his share) are for each date in the season. The members phone the divisional control room when they go out, and atleast once a week someone gets rousted and marched off the marsh, just to check their details, because someone has reported them shooting the bird's (one local Labour MP is a regular caller, so my sources tell me). Niel. p.s. Chichester harbour is now in serious decline following the harassment of the shooting members (and voluntary wardens) to the point they disbanded, the complainers now whinging that the bird life in the area is in a rapid declineThe RSPB know the BASC people are the best at doing the work, but they are not the ones causing the problem Cybershooters website: http://www.cybershooters.org List admin: [EMAIL PROTECTED] ___ T O P I C A The Email You Want. http://www.topica.com/t/16 Newsletters, Tips and Discussions on Your Favorite Topics

From: "Alistair Shutt", [EMAIL PROTECTED] Hello Being somewhat of an expert in the Anorak wearing department, I feel myself eminently qualified to express an opinion. The firearms expert need only to have glanced at the muzzle to establish authenticity, the fake gun's muzzle being obviously less than 9mm. One would expect Police firearms "expert's" to spot the difference, being the professional's the undoubtedly are. CS: Field-threat to shoots
From: "Tom Charnock", [EMAIL PROTECTED] Over the last 8 months we have had "complaints" from concerned people in respect of game shooting 1st was to Woodland trust who own nearby (1/2 mile) woodland to a local pheasant shoot. They wrote along lines of "public compliant, people shooting pheasants on our land etc" They could/would not pass on actual complaint letter so could not see who it was from. 2nd was to local Parish Council and to Local Council and was along lines of "lots people shooting, one shot pheasant next to footpath, injured it, then came over to footpath where I and 12 year old child standing, wrung it neck etc". I at Parish meeting by chance when this came up. I asked for name / copy of letter as now I now really keen to find out who this was. Clerk said could not let me see as it private!! Here is the real interesting bit, this was in _APRIL_. For the spies watching, the game season ends 30 Jan. The clever bit is that the Parish had not noticed this was 2 1/2 months after the close of the game season, and for sure neither had the Local Council. But all of them now think of the local pheasant shoot as cowboys. From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] If it was the Commission on radio 4, it will be a repeat of a program I listened to yesterday. One of those giving 'evidence' basically said the Police lied to Lord Cullen's enquiry and there is/was no come back. The truth will utimately out, whether the powers that be like it or not. We just need to keep at it. Never ever give up. CS: Pol-Israeli riot control
From: Jeremy Peter Howells, JPHowells In the UK use of 'lethal force', in this case the .22 rifle, against rioters would most likely be illegal except in the most extreme circumstances even if the intention was not to kill. Most police forces balk at deploying baton rounds and CS gas in the mainland UK in such circumstances (even at the Boardwater Farm riots). CS: Misc-shooter's wives
From: andrew gant, [EMAIL PROTECTED] Recently on The Shooters Website Discussion Forum at www.claypigeonshoots.co.uk there was a post entitled "Shooters Wives" were a suggestion was made for a "shooters wives" section to be added. This is were pictures of the shooters wives/husbands would be sent in as well as possibley "Comedy pics" from shoting events (bloke picking nose, drunken person in the bar afterwards, etc.) I'm just wondering if people on the cybershooters list would be interested in getting involved. Either e-mail me at [EMAIL PROTECTED] or head over to the forum and see the conversation line which has lots of ideas thrown about. It has only been up 1 day and a half and has already received 17 replies. Thanks Andy -- How about shooter's husbands, I'm sure there are some female shooters out there! Steve. CS: Legal-Brazilian ban overturned
From: "Brian Toller", [EMAIL PROTECTED] This one is priceless, just lifted from BBC North West Teletext GUN SALE BAN NOT WORKING, ADMITS BRAZIL Brazil's supreme court has overturned a nationwide ban on gun sales imposed earlier this year by the government. The measure was introduced in June as part of a major initiative to stem rising crime rates. But the country's Chief Justice, Carlos Velloso, said the decree had not had any effect as criminals did not buy their weapons in gun shops. It is estimated that one person in Brazil is killed every 13 minutes Brian T Cybershooters website: http://www.cybershooters.org List admin: [EMAIL PROTECTED] ___ T O P I C A The Email You Want. http://www.topica.com/t/16 Newsletters, Tips and Discussions on Your Favorite Topics

From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Ah, you can always rely on a bad doctor to finish anyone off. Rusty This is from memory so it may be paraphrased. Sir Richard Burton, the Victorian Nile explorer was at a formal dinner and was telling of his expolits. A doctor sitting nearby asked: Tell me Sir Richard, How do you feel when you kill a man? CS: Legal-who's educating who?
From: Jeremy Peter Howells, [EMAIL PROTECTED] I know at least one hunt in the South Wales area has a captive bolt humane killer (that from one of the members whose partner/boyfriend would be responsible for it in the hunt). However, one stalker/hunter/ranger/gamewarden has apparently got a section 5 authority for a .44 magnum as a humane killer. Special circumstances mean he's forced into heavy undergrowth in persuit of injured deer (usually injured by poachers) and can't get a head shot. The large heavy round is about all that is useful as he can't crawl in with a rifle or shotgun. Several others have been given the line that the single shot .32 is the only thing available or that will be allowed. Regards Jerry -- You don't need Section 5 authority for a humane killer, handguns held for this reason are exempt under Section 3 of the 1997 Act. Steve. CS: Legal-We are Being sued by HCI!
From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Hi Steve, forwarded just in case you / the list haven't already received this. Sounds like they need big support right now - a good opportunity for major publicity in the right hands :-)) David M -- Pro gunners, Pro RKBA'ers If ever there was a time that you were needed it is NOW! Last year on December 11th 1999 I launched the Anti-HCI site at ww.handguncontrol.net This site has been dedicated to dispelling the Anti gun rhetoric that too often is touted as truth We at the Anti HCI site have used the site ONLY for the edification of the General public to promote responsible, legal, safe firearms ownership and to bring you Pro-gun news and articles and HCI sees that as a threat! We have spent only our own personal time and money to keep the site running as well as other pro gun sites that most of you know well. We are in dire straits and need the assistance of every pro gunner. HCI is suing us!! They want the domain name Handguncontrol.net because we have become a thorn in their side. We have made an impact by replacing their fiction with facts and they are turning their attentions to us. They do not want people to know the truth and now seek to shut us down. We have very limited resources and an organization the size of HCI will overwhelm us eventually. We will fight the good fight for our rights but we need your help. We are seeking the support of the NRA, GOA, JFPO etc. to assist us. If any of you has an "IN" with any of these organizations I urge you to point them in our direction or provide us with a contact that can assist in this matter. We need a good Lawyer and help from big brother ( NRA, GOA, JFPO etc)would be of immense help! Get the Word out, that HCI is trying to railroad us into giving up the domain. Why is HCI so worried about us?? Because the truth is out and people are listening, questioning HCI et al's emotional rhetoric and countering it with the facts and references provided at the Anti-HCI site.If the Anti-HCI site has been an asset to you I urge you to contact the NRA, GOA JFPO and urge them to assist us in saving the ANTI-HCI site. NRA-1-800-392-8683 (ask for the office of the general counsel) GOA-703-321-8585 JFPO-262-673-9745 I can be reached at my webmasters account [EMAIL PROTECTED] and will promptly respond to any mail I receive. Thank you in advance for your support. El Jefe Webmaster Handguncontrol.net -- What amazes me is that HCI were stupid enough not to register their site in all the relevant domains! Steve.
