Right. There is no harm in including it and, since it is more than
likely that we'd need it, including it eliminates one information-free
cycle of email.

Assuming you mean having that string in the CYGWIN env var,
unfortunately, this is not the case.

See -- nosmbntsec
is the default. You need to turn it on to get ntsec functionality on
remote drives.

As for including cygcheck, I don't have a problem doing that
when necessary, but I prefer to check that it's not some "braino", or
that it is a "real" problem before attaching a full cygdump.

How will we know if it's a real problem unless you include the cygcheck
output?

Not sure what/which config information you are wanting, but
mostly static maps, shared DNS server. Not sure what you're wanting
exactly...don't make me guess neither! :-)

Larry is right, of course, but I make a wild guess, nevertheless:

  CYGWIN=nosmbntsec

See the user guide.

Quite a bit, I'm afraid. Linda, you've been around long enough that
we shouldn't have to ask for basic information like cygcheck output
and other bootstrap information. What, exactly, is this server?
How are you connecting to it from the client? What protocols are
involved? How have you configured them? All this information
at least is necessary for someone here to start providing any useful
feedback. Without it, all we can do is guess. Don't make us guess.
It's not very accurate. ;-)

permissions/owners seen on cygwin-client vs. server

2007-08-16 Thread Linda Walsh

I get two different views of my server's "/home" directory
depending on if I'm on the server or under cygwin on a client.

On the server, I see things like:
