HOWTO rootless mode??
I can't find any documentation on how to use rootless mode (or even what it is)? How so I start rootless mode? Can anyone point me to some sourses of help? Is it available with the latest (stable) distribution of cygwin/xfree? Thanks, Lars. -- Lars Jensen, TMCC/Vista B200, 7000 Dandini Blvd, Reno NV 89512-3999. Randall, please don't post here
Hi Randall, If you can't be civilized, please don't post to this list. It is better not to post than to post comments like the one you just posted. Apparently, judging from your comments, you're not interested in any newbies figuring out how to use cygwin/xfree. What is the matter with folks posting questions to learn new stuff? Aren't you interesting in helping to spread this great software across the globe? Lars. -- Lars Jensen, TMCC/Vista B200, 7000 Dandini Blvd, Reno NV 89512-3999. screen too big for display
I just installed Cygwin/xfree with fvwm2 window manager, and the desktop comes up too large for the display. In other words, when I move the mouse down on my screen, the desktop scrolls, so a window at the top of my screen scrolls off my screen. How can I make the desktop fit my screen? I tried to change the XWin parameters, but to no effect. (This problem does not appear when I use twm). xdmcp font problem
When I connect to a remote Linux box from my cygwin/xfree PC, and run abiword through the connection, abiword crashes complaining that cannot add fonts to the X font path Then Abiwork crashes. I have 75dpi, 100dpi and scalable font (Xfscl) installed on the Cygwin/xfree system. This does not happen when I login from the console on the linux box and run abiword on the linux box, so the problem is not on the linux box. Also this does not happen when I login with xdmcp to the linux box from another linux box, and run abiword remotely. Any ideas how I might fix this? cygjpeg6b.dll not found
When I try to start wmaker I get the eerror CYGJPEG6B.DLL not found. I checked that this file indeed is not in my \cygwin directory. Which package is it supposed to come in? Openbox works great. RE: cygjpeg6b.dll not found
Harold, I guess a crucial not was missing. -Anyhow, it was only meant as a joke. I hope you didn't take any offense. Anyway, where does cygjpeg6b.dll come from? Lars. RE: Problem with windows programs w/Cygwin-xfree
Harold, Actually, I think I have to correct myself - I now think it is xwinclip that hangs up things. I found a way to reproduce the problem. 1) Add the line start xwinclip after the start twm line in startxwin.bat. 2) start cygwin/xfree with the new startxwin.bat 3) Go down and click on the windows meny bar and issue the command WindowsKey-E (to bring up windows Explorer). (WindowsKey is the key with a MSWindow on it). 4) After this I can't bring any windows programs up (at least for a while). Try to click the Start button, for example. The windows side of the machine become very sluggish. Lars. On Wed, 24 Apr 2002, Harold Hunt wrote: Lars, In answer to your question: no, no one else has reported this problem. New xfree install: twm doesn't work
I just installed xfree with the new setup program, and I foung that twm doesn't work - it complains that some lib dll file is missing. Has anyone else had problems with twm with the new install? Fonts not found
I just installed the Type 1 font package that comes with Cygwin, Xfscl.tgz. The x-server still can't find the fonts. Is there some configuration file I need to edit also to make Cygwin aware of the fonts? This is what I did: cd /usr/X11R6 extract.exe zxf Xfscl.tgz Thanks, Lars. -- Lars Jensen, TMCC/Vista B200, 7000 Dandini Blvd, Reno NV 89512-3999. Installing extra packages?
I juts tried to install Xf100.tgz on top of an initial xfree installation. The instructions in the Install file supplied with xfree 4.2.0 says to install the fonts by using extract -C /usr/X11R6 Xf100.tgz I tried this and get an error that extract needs more flags. Which flags should I use to install extra packages? Thanks, Lars. -- Lars Jensen, TMCC/Vista B200, 7000 Dandini Blvd, Reno NV 89512-3999. Exiting xfree
One problem I have when I run xfree in Windows mode (which I prefer), is that sometimes I accidentally hit the exit button in the upper right hand corner of the my Cygwin/Xfree window. This sometimes causes me to loose work. I know that a way of avoiding this is to use the fullscreen flag with XWin.exe. However, I prefer to run in a window, so my question is whether there is a way to disable the windows exit button so that the only way to exit is with Alt-F4? (Using the nowinkill flag doesn't help here.) Thanks, Lars. -- Lars Jensen, TMCC/Vista B200, 7000 Dandini Blvd, Reno NV 89512-3999. startxwin.bat gone?
A file, startxwin.bat used to be included with earlier versions of cygwin-xfree. I just installed the (required) packages of cygwin-xfree 4.2, and couldn't find the file. Has it been removed? startxwin is a convelient way of starting up X because it also starts up twm and xterm on the same time. Mouse-click focus in X ?
How do I get the MS windows-like mouse-click focus behavior in X windows? I want a window to become active first when I click within the window area. (Presently a window becomes active when I place the mouse within the window area.) I'm using standard Cygwin-xfree setup with twm. LyX and Cygwin anyone?
Has anyone used LyX on cygwin? The Windows LyX port requires an x-window server to run, and I am interested in the minimal set of Cygwin/Cygwin-xfree packages needed to get a functional x-window server so LyX can run. Thanks, Lars
