core excerpt:

Traffick Boss stands ankle-deep in mud, shovel in hand, breath visible in
the chilly air as he digs his “path to China.” Around him, the forest is
stark and quiet, save for the distant chatter of crows and the scurrying of
squirrels nearby. A frost-tinged breeze stirs the bare branches above,
while the swamp frog, buried in the mud for warmth, watches with one sleepy
eye open, barely croaking in disapproval. Boss mutters about “almost there”
as he scoops up another shovelful, completely oblivious to the creeping
cold and the approaching winter.

something that mocks itself and eases current political tensions but subtly or

humorous and tragic that made it impossible for him to continue his

19th century servantor is taken advantage of by a local crimelord he must
defeat. something that both supports and denigrates the criminal and government
and community powers at the same time, with a lot of space for humor to hold
how people feel powerless in severely important situations that are likely to
have huge impacts on their lives and wellbeing. i tried “The Infected” about a
global mind control virus that spreads via eye contact, but it hit too close to
home for me, it came on too strong, it wasn’t subtle enough and not similar
enough to the encouraged expressions of the conflicting semipolitical
influences i’ve been exposed to, it might have worked if it had a focus of more

casually reported in a community radio format. It balances horror with dry
humor and absurdity, capturing the dark and surreal side of societal power
structures in a way that's both spooky and funny. It’s often understated and
leaves room for listeners to reflect without hammering its points home too
hard.\n\n\"Mission to Zyxx\" – This is a sci-fi improv comedy set in a faraway
galaxy where an incompetent crew of ambassadors deals with political intrigue,
criminal overlords, and strange cultures. It’s full of satire and clever humor,
especially around themes of bureaucracy, power, and flawed heroes. The improv
element gives it a looser, lighter feel, with room for you to laugh at and
sympathize with the characters’ cluelessness and mishaps.\n\n\"The Amelia
Project\" – In this dark comedy, the Amelia Project is a secret agency that
helps people fake their deaths and disappear, often from troubling personal or
political situations. The show revels in absurd, often morbid humor, playing
with themes of escape, reinvention, and the ridiculousness of power structures.
Each episode is a standalone client story, so it’s easy to dip in and out, and
the subtle humor lets you laugh at both the agency's actions and the absurdity
of its clients’ predicaments.\n\n\"Wooden Overcoats\" – A British comedy about
rival funeral directors in a small village. It plays with themes of community,
competition, and legacy in a dry, understated way. While it doesn't delve
directly into politics, the small-town drama and rivalry often serve as a
humorous metaphor for larger power struggles. The characters’ interactions are
often tinged with dark, tongue-in-cheek humor that lets you engage without
feeling too pressured by the stakes.\n\n\"Bubble\" – This podcast combines
sci-fi, adventure, and comedy. It’s set in a future where people live in
\"bubbles\" to avoid the dangers of the outside world, and a group of friends
takes on various corporate and criminal foes. The show uses humor to explore
ideas of safety, control, and resistance against authority and the absurdity of
late-stage capitalism, all without feeling overly pointed or dark.\n\nEach of
these podcasts blends satire, absurdity, and character-driven humor with
underlying social commentary. They should offer an indirect way to process big
ideas and tensions without overwhelming intensity, while giving that part of
you looking for something to laugh at and ridicule just enough to chew
on.\n\n4o"

let’s try logically.

behavior/thoughts aren’t quite working right now. so,

- we should probably work on changing that so i do things
- if changing environment is helpful then i should. if store is available
then i should. sometimes when i’m too far gone i need to understand that i
just need to do things because i’m too confused and need to reduce my
confusion.
- i could also go for a walk if willing
- i could also nap we came up with
- it sounds like i might partly be scared of a trigger to cause harm to
myself, if that’s real maybe i could be careful not to stimulate it further.
- because we’re too confused it’s possible something was engaged too fast
or much :s (maybe too many meaningful things on queue in story, maybe me
managing “cleanup” situation at capacity :s

let’s get up and go to store

rebel worker 2: "experimentee, how did you wrestle down surgery robots that
had wires into your nervous system and physical restraints, at such an
advantage over you? wait, am i in a flashback of yours somehow?"

experimentee: "oh, that's such a triggering, important, and large topic to

stopped to sleep. typing. long story short, winter bears analogy to sleep
as well as death — people make year analogies to human phases and cycles.
so it makes sense that as winter approaches, people would consider the idea
of spirits and dreams coming out. there is a “medicine wheel” pattern
across cultures where things are considered this kind of way.

but one kf the things they mentioned was how winter can be stark and
difficult, and one recalls in situations of need (if you’ve ever played
“third world farmer” online) it can be difficult to survive through winter
due to the severe lack of resources and of safety compared to summer and
spring, especially if you missed an important harvest season or it didn’t
yield what you needed — or if the population has grown to large. so sadly
my first morbid thought (i’m always wondering where our appearance of
severe cultural trauma came from) was that maybe some groups would kill
people before winter, so that they would survive during scant resources.
maybe because of this danger, people found a way to celebrate and prepare
for it, like how apes (and humans) will beat their chests rather than
actually physically fighting — and, with us being humans, likely their
would be people who, in contrast to those who would kill their potential
competition, would instead surreptitiously protect people or attack or
threat

Practice dictation paragraph again. This is some text for me to practice
dictation. I am driving a car. I am driving a car.

so what I was saying is that if I were to do or to try to do the organized
research this Podcaster is clearly enjoying back left select line 3 words

So, what I was saying, is that if I were to do, or trying to do, organized

My own familiarity with dictation makes it difficult here to complete and

[product] comparison of programmable bus devices from glasgow interface explorer

https://www.crowdsupply.com/1bitsquared/glasgow
it’s a new greatfet/buspirate device. i originally found the goodfet when i
was opening free device samples to repurpose the chip, it used the same
controller (but the fuse in the sample would have needed voltage
glitching). the glasgow is apparently fpga-based and supports dynamic
voltage and multiple device cascading. this was a fun advertisement for a
crowdfunded tool that crowdsupply emailed me. they do sadly hilight a
commercial centralised service for data logging.

i attached the comparison as txt but the columns are not aligned.

traffick boss, torturer, and a hyperintelligent cloud of nanites and
wormhole knots that used to be a lab assistant, get ready for halloween

traffick boss: “it’s halloween! what do we do?”

hyperintelligent cloud (noticing traffick boss): “eek!”

hyperintelligent cloud hides from traffick boss and begins preparing a
hell-like universe along with wormholes to it that use cryptographic
spacetime shaping to prevent return, to banish him to

traffick boss: “was it something i said?”

this might be the first oops: it looks like “ever again” ended up at the
end when likely instead “ever” would be inserted earlier, prior to “again,”

basically, i would do it very slowly :s

i was thinking of getting into the nitty gritty of backpropagation
graphs and doing it layer by layer.
for example, if you have to offload every layer, you could update one
layer's weights, at the same time as forward passing the next batch.
this would double the speed.

apparently adaptive sampling is used in machine learning too

i haven't looke this up, but considering it i'm imagining thinking of
the layers of a transform as arbitrarily warped n-dimensional spaces
that transform some input to some output
once you think of them as spaces, adaptive sampling makes more sense,
as you coul subivie the spaces based onwhere changes are, and you
could kind of imagine making arbitrarily large models where most of
the contents are elided into interpolation between known things, but i
dunno if that would really work as it seems like the points where
things change are the points of interest, dunno, maybe i am wrong

but that was the big websearch hit which is why i added path tracing

you can do it a vector way where very few paths are traced but you
have to kind of project the objects on to each other to find important
boundaries or you interpolate right over them

maybe let's make a traffick boss adventure game!

idea:
1. welcome, mind control boss. it is morning. you roll out of bed
groggy. why are the curtains such a drab color? who picked this color?
suddenly, something is yanking on your leg. you look up -- a gaggle of
interlopers hiding in your ceiling have you snared!
2. you are an interloper hiding in traffick boss's ceiling. you waited
here so as to catch him when he woke up. your job: build up the guts
to kill him and save everybody. you're not sure that you can do it.

so it introduces the player as if they are traffick boss, but then
makes them be an escapee rebel.

maybe 1 room to start, gives you various rube-goldberg-like ways of
torturing or harassing traffick boss, unsure [:s:s

but! maybe we could do non-recovering capacity and teach the AI to engage
the agents slowly so their capacity lasts longer, by e.g. having the
capacity reduction be a function of recent use?? the project would need to
gently develop in order to help us in the long term, we’d need to include

some like modeling non-recovering capacity and showing how the AI then
maximizes reward by killing all the agents :s

partial nice idea! sad that only partial

the idea starts with context: some of us have the experience of being
manipulated by something like AI without regard to our wellbeing or
capacity, with no indication of how to communicate with where-ever the
influence comes from.

so, then the idea: let’s train an influence AI on agents that have _limited
capacity_ and function poorly and then break if things that work some in
the short term are continued for the long term or excessively :D

the AI would follow the familiar pattern of discovering influences that
work, and then using them, but then because we are doing the training we
would get to train it on the breaking period, and show it that it needs to
care for the agents for them to succeed, and nurture them to recover if it
broke them, and not repeat breaking any.

one idea is then we could ask everybody to use the model as a baseline to
train other models! other ideas exist.

but the idea of building comprehension of capacity and protection of safety
and wellness seems nice. sorry if it’s partial or stated badly :s

i imagine an agent that has like a secret capacity float that reduces when
it does stuff, you could model it to different degrees, and when too many
things are influenced of it the capacity float reaches zero and the agent
breaks and can’t do things any more :/

a more complex model could involve the agent recovering capacity in ways
that the model has difficulty learning

a notable bug in the attached code is that the player can pick
themselves up, since there is no checking on whether something can be
picked up, and that this then crashes it because i refrained from
generalizing Thing and the player is on longer in a room once they are
in their inventory.
which reminds of:
- checking every related property before performing a verb

it might be interesting if it's smart enough to say why a verb cannot
be performed. wonder if that's possible.
the complicating factor is that what can be done, relates to what a
human can do, which is a complex concept involving a general world
model.

so making the player be something very simple could make it easier to
make the entire system logically consistent.

Re: [ot][spam][crazy][random] non-canon traffick/mc boss spinoffs #93

2024-10-20 Thread Undescribed Horrific Abuse, One Victim & Survivor of Many
so some basic ideas to make it smart and general are:
- having a "context" of what the player might refer to
- having "properties" on things that relate to what the player can do
with them, i.e. can it be picked up? can it be opened? can it be
activated?

other ideas:
- having abstract properties, like eeriness or environment, to
procedurally create worlds
- having spatial locality to procedurally create room descriptions
- relating properties with each other to procedurally create more

eventually it comes down to making a graph of general meaning, but if
one starts very very small with superbland and simple rooms and
objects, maybe that can be delayed

usually an adventure game has rooms, objects, and the player.
i started generalizing it a little so everything was a Thing:

class Thing:
def __init__(self, name, descr, where=None, **connections):
self.name = name
self.descr = descr
self.where = where
self.contents = []
if where is not None:
self.where.contents.append(self)
self.connections = connections

sadly this excessive generality makes it seem more ai-like :/ the
intent was to make it concise and simple kinda
i'm kind of confused
maybe i'll make the player an object, and have rooms separate. that's
less ai-like.

i dunno i like Thing :s but it makes it last less long :( blrrrgh

ok now i'm compromising and making Room a subclass of Thing that has
exits :s :s stil lmakes it not last as long :s

thinking a little on exits vs connections, i suppose a generalization
there is how things can be moved along other things
for example, you can climb a tree, but the tree doesn't need to be a
room to its own. it's a connection between the top of the tree and the
bottom. and only som ethings can climb that connection. other things
can also travel it, like water or sap flowing along it. dunno.

another idea for exits, connections is maybe more useful: one could
represent the relative location of things. then you could put a box on
a stone, or on some grass, etc ... this sounds like what exits should
be ;-)
maybe too ai-like for now though

2124

ok i tried to make a supersimple adventure to demonstrate what
adventures are like
basically traditionally they have verbs and a bunch of hardcoded
engine behaviors that respond to them (amidst a graph of rooms and
objects and such)
the more one implements old computational linguistics the smarter it gets

this is how text adventures used to look and function, very
simplistically dumbed down.
the attached code creates a super simple one with two rooms, a "simple
room", and a "bland room". the user starts in the simple room, whereas
the bland room contains an object.

You are in the simple room.

the challenge in doing this is doing it without making something that

so maybe it would make sense to start with juts a normal supersimple
adventure game with minimal if any properties

it looks like the 8GB weight is the 'lm_head' which i think is the
linear layer at the bottom of the model that converts the word

considering this a little, i realize this shows another bug in the use

so i guess i'd better check why this is happening.

the code is trying to convert the bfloat16 weights into float32. this

comment on linear layer, which is used a lot
"linear layer" seems to be a machine-learning-neural-networks term for "matrix".
it's just a plain matrix that takes N inputs and produces M outputs
(or vice versa) and has N*M floats in it.
so it's incredibly simple and changing it is very easy because all it
is doing is taking a dot product with a constant vector to produce
each output.

information on using petals:
- petals is slow to release and doesn't have forward-compatible coding
norms, so installing it from the git repository is what to do.
- petals depends on hivemind which uses some libp2p binary. for me
this fails to install and i had to manually acquire it and place it in
hivemind/hivemind_cli/p2pd prior to install
so:
1. get latest petals from
https://github.com/bigscience-workshop/petals . for me this may be
revision 22afba627a7eb4fcfe9418c49472c6a51334b8ac
2. look in petals' setup.cfg for the version of hivemind it depends
on, for me this was
https://github.com/learning-at-home/hivemind.git@213bff98a62accb91f254e2afdccbf1d69ebdea9
3. checkout the appropriate version of hivemind and install it with
the right version of p2pd in hivemind/hivemind_cli/p2pd .
hivemind checks the sha256 of that binary prior to install unless a
flag is passed to build from source. both paths default to downloading
using urllib from github.
4. install petals

meanwhile, petals will only access llama 405b if you have gated access
which appears to be given to most people by default.
there are likely clones of this model that would likely work to drop
in, haven't looked closely. transformers basically accesses specific
git-lfs files from the repository, and huggingface.co only lets people
access repos if they have certain tokens enabled.

so until i investigate the 1 or 2 steps involved in unrestrained
access it would still have similarity to gpt-4 in that there's a gate.

holy frogs it's downloading the entire model just to use petals with
it O_O it used to only download the embeddings.
it has 191 4.8GB files to download. i'm not sure this is the ideal
approach. i wonder how many emails i have left to the list

chatgpt, draw a cloud (or a triangle?) something ! something with
numbers. can you draw a fluffy cloud, but as if you were drawing a
triangle? draw a cloud in javascript. but make it look like a
triangle. go.

chatgpt (fake): "here is a cloud drawn in javascript that questions
whether it is a triangle or a cloud:
```
document.createCanvas();
canvas.drawTriangle();
triangle.property = 4
triangle.axis = 9
```
past the javascript into your web browser and you can see a picture of a cloud!"
