[darktable-user] How to export JPEG for web browsers correctly?

2018-05-14 Thread Yuri
Hello,
it's really frustrating but I can't get any usable export to JPEG.

I got Sony RAWs shot in sRGB, I wanna simply convert them straight to JPEG.
No module tweaking, etc. So I check the image in the 'darkroom' mode -
colors and saturation are perfect there.

Then I hit export (no style applied, etc.). Resulting JPEG has
oversaturated colors and is a bit darker then in the 'darkroom' mode when
viewed with: Android Flicker app, Linux Firefox, Linux Chromium, GNOME
Image Viewer, etc.

The only app which can display the exported JPEG correctly is GIMP, sure it
reports there was an embedid sRGB profile.

I've tried playing with Input/Output color profile modules - setting to
sRGB - but no luck. The gamut clipping set to sRGB did help a bit though.
My DT's display profile is set to sRGB too.

Output of darktable-cmstest:

darktable-cmstest version 2.4.3
this executable was built with colord support enabled
darktable itself was built with colord support enabled

primary CRTC is at CRTC 0
CRTC for screen 0 CRTC 1 has no mode or no output, skipping
CRTC for screen 0 CRTC 2 has no mode or no output, skipping

LVDS-1the X atom and colord returned the same profile
X atom:_ICC_PROFILE (1428 bytes)
description: ThinkPad T430
colord:"/home//.local/share/icc/edid-
1be6e0958dcbf558460fe50a8d95abc6.icc"
description: ThinkPad T430

Your system seems to be correctly configured

Is this trivial task really so hard to do properly? I mean - import,
export, Flickr should work intuitively, right?

I can provide RAW, JPEG + a shot of DT's 'darkroom'.

Thanks

2018-05-14 Thread Maurizio Paglia
@ François
Among the Lua scripts you should find one that let you export the edited
raw in GIMP.
This is quite similar to the behaviour you are looking for.
Maybe you can try it

flatpak is not a "normal" system installation. it is a collection of
packages ment to bypass a systems installation requirements, to make a
package that will run anywhere on any system. ie: cutting corners.

use a package that is built for your system, or update your system so you
can utilize packages you wish.

Would it not be much more normal to call gimp from dt! Gimp, after all,
does not have the fille management capabilities of dt ... sounds to me
like the user is going backwards in the process.

Gimp (2.10) from dt , works like a charm.

darktable is a gtk3 application which of course
can open another window. So it's hardly
impossible.

I don't mind if the window on the cheap monitor
continues just the same, not just the controls.
After all, darktable does allow to resize those.

why should it be view-only?

Now I think to understand what is meant with
"architecture" of darktable. The collapsible
panels look rather non-standard, so maybe there
is a point to it in terms of the effort tearing
off those panels into independent windows.

I know little about UI and C++ programming, but
I guess that opening that other view and linking
events to existing handlers could be an
addition rather than an alteration of existing
code. Memory management might be an issue
though. Also, it might be harder to allow for a
simultaneously second icc profile, and that
would be important to the usefulness.

Like always, it looks easier as long one
doesn't attempt to do it. But I still believe
it would be a great addition to this type of
application.

There is an AppImage for GIMP 2.10 that contains the dt RAW
loader plug-in. I have used it on Linux Mint 18.3.

You can download the AppImage here.
https://github.com/aferrero2707/gimp-appimage/releases/tag/continuous

The most recent release is
gimp-git-2.10.1-20180514.glibc2.15-x86_64.AppImage

This AppImage is being updated frequently. The changes are here.

You mean like the way GIMP does it?

I've asked about this and been told it isn't possible because of the basic
architecture of DT screen handling.

I would love to have a system where the "data" part of an application can be put
on one screen and the "controls" on another. There are many text editors that
claim to be things like 'modeless' and with without a control panel or ribbon.
Their logic is that focus on the editing and remove all other distractions. I'm
not sure that rationalization holds for image editing, but certainly maximizing
image size -- putting it on your largest screen and having nothing else on that
screen -- makes sense. After all, eve in one screen mode we can *view*, and
*only* view the image by making the left, right, top and bottom panels go away
with the little triangle controls. So we have a large image but on controls.

Heck, in many applications, LibreOffice, Okular and others, I can 'unlock' the
the tool bar and drag it elsewhere, even on another screen. Is this an
attribute of the application or of KDE or Gnome? I think it is the application.

[darktable-user] gimp and darktable plugin

2018-05-14 Thread François Patte
Bonjour,

Where can I find the gimp plugin to use dartable from gimp for raw files?

I could find a lot of people talking about this plugin, but none of them
explain where to find it, how to install it and how to use it

Thank you.

Aw: [darktable-user] darktable WIN 2.4.3 import bug - WORKAROUND -

2018-05-14 Thread Michael Fritze
Or: Drag'n'Drop folder directly to darktable.

as the number of tickets regarding this import bug is still increasing
(12154, 12161, 12163, 12177 ... to name a few concurrent tickets), here
is how it 'works':

A) copy the path you want to import from

B) paste this path into the right side of the import dialogue window
(file selector dialog)

and here we go!

It changes the path and the import works.

So, I did as you suggested and it works as expected. Just for my
understanding, what is the potential use of those hidden unused masks?
They are not available via GUI (so I cannot employ them) nor used in
image processing.

Sure, I'll try that. But what about the others? I believe other users
also affected by this bug, maybe they just don't notice that or solve
this problem in most obvious way — buying new equipment. I already got
rid of those masks manually on a set of test images and darktable works
several times faster than before (entering darkroom mode, leaving it
and refreshing thumbnails).

I know, I didn't get rid of those on purpose so far. If you compile your own
darktable you can remove the lines

sqlite3_exec(dt_database_get(darktable.db), "BEGIN TRANSACTION", NULL, NULL,
NULL);
g_hash_table_foreach(mask_entries, add_non_clone_mask_entries_to_db,
>id);
sqlite3_exec(dt_database_get(darktable.db), "COMMIT", NULL, NULL, NULL);

from src/common/exif.cc and have it drop all unused masks when loading a
sidecar file.
Maybe it would be nice to wire "drop unused masks" into Lua, however, given
how quirky masks are implemented I am not sure if that is feasible. :-(
