However, when a camera makes my skin redder than what it actually is, I do not agree. I do agree that people may prefer flashy colours than what they are. Many friends of mine, as they shoot weddings, for instance, process their already over-saturated jpegs so that the skin gets even more saturated. I do prefer more natural tints. I read a thread on github - among many others -, where a user shows pictures processed with darktable 2.6.x and 3.0.x, and complains that the ones from the later are not so accurate than the ones from the earlier, which he prefers. For almost all his samples, I found the ones from 3.0.x more natural than the ones from 2.6.x. But, once again, it is a matter of taste. And maybe I am too down-to-earth... You could probably make darktable faster if you install a Linux distro such as Ubuntu and the Intel Neo OpenCL driver. Intel Neo is not available (compiled) for every distro. Hi, On a 16-megapixel Nikon raw, with a 12-year-old PC (Core2 Duo, 4 GB RAM), but with a current graphics card (NVidia 1660/6GB) and OpenCL, 'denoise (profiled)' at default settings: 299.756594 [dev_pixelpipe] took 2.312 secs (1.768 CPU) processed `denoise (profiled)' on GPU, blended on GPU [export] Of course the default settings depend on the ISO level, and some of them affect speed. BTW, are you aware of this video? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=InsCJAPSdjI Also, the darktable Facebook group (https://www.facebook.com/groups/darktable/) has a couple of shared files, including one that's a saved chat (I think from the devs' IRC channel) that details recent denoising enhancements. Can you elaborate on "trashed"? If there is actual db corruption which you can describe in detail, you should probably post an issue at github. FYI, there should be backups of the databases in your config folder, renamed with an appended version string, if you need to recover and didn't create backups yourself (which you really should do before updating). -- jys darktable user mailing list to unsubscribe send a mail to darktable-user+unsubscr...@lists.darktable.org

Re: [darktable-user] Install on Ubuntu 19.10
Hi. I tried installing the ubuntuhandbook version, on my Ubuntu laptop (not on my desktop machine, which has all my photographs on it), with the following results: i) it asked me if I wanted to migrate the database to a different schema, so I said yes (because I wasn't working on my main machine) ii) darktable started, but it was too wide to fit on the screen, and the screen could not be resized, and iii) it couldn't find all of the photos that should have been there (no great loss, which is why I did this on my laptop. So, I haven't done much investigating, but one thing that might have gone wrong is that the photo database has been trashed while updating to the new schema. Also, it installed darktable 3.0.0, which isn't the current version. Any thoughts? Re: [darktable-user] Install on Ubuntu 19.10
The web page refers to the distro packages AND "third party" packages ( https://www.darktable.org/install/#3rdparty). I was just saying that, since the install page explicitly mentions 19.10 support there should be packages available. If not, then don't mention it and, instead, say that you should build from source. What kind of computer are you using? I can definitely confirm that denoise profiled non-local is slower that denoise profiled luma/chroma preset. Patrick, In the web pages there is a reference to third party packages, wich includes support for 19.10. If no support exists for 19.10 and you have to build packages directly from source then, maybe, that should be mentioned in the pages and not stated that support exists for 19.10.
