[darktable-user] Adding/changing datetime

2020-08-15 Thread Tobias Krause

Hi,

in my database there are a bunch of pictures missing the "datetime"
information. Unfortunately there is now way I could get the original files.

Is there a way add/change datetime within darktable - have at least the
correct day would be key to filtering by date...

Regards,
Tobias

Re: [darktable-user] Import metadata and development from Adobe Lightroom DNG

2020-08-15 Thread Mikael Ståldal

I found this post:

https://discuss.pixls.us/t/importing-lightroom-catalog/11277

which suggest using exiftool to extract XMP from DNG files:
exiftool -ext dng -ext DNG -xmp -b -w xmp [dir]

I tried it on a folder of some images and it did extract XMP files, but
when I try to import into Darktable, I get this error message on several
(not all) of the images:

tiling failed for module 'demosaic'. output might be garbled.

and the image is just solid gray.

If I import the same DNG files without the XMP files from exiftool, all
images are imported correctly (but without any metadata or development
from Lightroom).

Not sure if it's related, but exiftool says this:
Warning: Bad IDC_IFD SubDirectory start - [DNG file]

for all the images.

It seems like Lightroom refuses to write XMP sidecar files for DNG,
instead it embeds that data into the DNG files.

Re: [darktable-user] OpenCL on a MacBook Pro

2020-08-15 Thread Michael Kefeder
Hi Jim

I just found time to run the mentioned benchmark on darktable v3.2.1 on
macOS 10.15.6 MacBook Pro (Touchbar, 13-inch, 2018, 4xTB3), 2.7 GHz Intel
Core i7, 16GB

CPU only: 25.2secs (significantly faster than v3.0.0 on the same machine
congrats and thanks to the coders!)
with Intel Iris Graphics 640 1536 MB: 18.2secs (same as 3.0)
with eGPU AMD Radeon Pro 580 Compute Engine 8192 MB: 5.2secs (same as 3.0)

so you should see much faster results on your macbook pro with dedicated
gpu vs CPU, since my eGPU is already dated and gives 3-5x faster results...
here's how I ran the bench

/Applications/darktable.app/Contents/MacOS/darktable-cli bench.SRW test.jpg
--core -d perf -d opencl

As Remco Vietor already said, make sure all opencl kernels are compiled
(needs many restarts), here's a dumb script to do this for you:

#!/bin/bash

DT="/Applications/darktable.app/Contents/MacOS/darktable -d opencl"

# first remove cached kernels
rm -r ~/.cache/darktable/cached_kernels_for_*

# re-run darktable until kernels are compiled
while true
do
$DT > /tmp/dt_opencl_compile.out &
DT_PID=$!
sleep 6
if grep --quiet "successfully loaded kernel"
/tmp/dt_opencl_compile.out
then
break
else
echo "opencl not successfully compiled, killing."
kill $DT_PID
fi
done

I decided to re-import all my images as there didn't seem to be a more
elegant solution available. The re-import all went very smoothly and I
now have a working DT system.

Thanks for the advice Patrick.

[darktable-user] Import metadata and development from Adobe Lightroom DNG

2020-08-15 Thread Mikael Ståldal
Is it possible to import metadata and development from DNG files from
Adobe Lightroom? (Like you can do from XMP sidecar files.)

It seems like Lightroom refuses to write XMP sidecar files for DNG,
instead it embeds that data into the DNG files.
