2021-10-29 Thread Rafa García
Hi,

You're lucky, the retouch module has a cloning mode that works in the
same way as the old spot removal.

Check the manual:

Re: [darktable-user] Where should my monitor ICC profile be stored in Linux?

2020-11-11 Thread Rafa García
You should create that directory in your user home directory, something
like $HOME/.config/darktable/color/out

/usr/share directories are system directories and could be overwritten or
deleted by the package/application on updates, uninstalling,
reinstalling... In general, they should not be modified by users.

Rafa

Re: [darktable-user] Establishing a New Module Layout

2020-10-26 Thread Rafa García
I'd like to stand up for this feature. I had the opportunity to read the
pull request which explains the rationale behind it [1].

Once I understood it, I waited for its implementation. With a good UI, it
could be a great feature. It could allow you to declutter the UI and adapt
darktable to your workflow.

First time I didn't invest time on it and tried to work as always. Ouch! I
missed my favs too. Ok, time to read the (temporary)manual[2].
After that, I tried it again and really liked it. It's easy to modify (add,
remove & change tab order) and you see all the modules used at glance.

Cheer,
Rafa

Re: [darktable-user] Crop isn't being saved and other crop bugs

2020-10-06 Thread Rafa García
I can't solve your cropping issues, sorry.
This could mitigate your pain: I enable crop and rotate using a shortcut,
when the grid doesn't appear what I do is to move the rotation value with
the mouse scroll a little bit and reset back (double click in the line to
reset).

If you look for a darktable forum you have pixls.us
 in its darktable category
.
I think that you can find an updated version built by a user.

Re: [darktable-user] camera support | darktable - question

2019-01-18 Thread Rafa García
You require nokogiri gem installed.
Execute:
  gem install nokogiri

It could fail because it needs some C libraries to get installed(sometimes
you have it installed previously). In case of error you can find more infor
here: https://nokogiri.org/tutorials/installing_nokogiri.html

Rafa

Re: [darktable-user] Image list

2018-04-15 Thread Rafa García
hi,

In linux (equivalent in other OS), you can find two sqlite databases in
$HOME/.config/darktable directory. One library.db which contains images,
tags used in images, ... and the other is data.db which contains tags,
styles, ...

You can use sqlitebrowser or any other sqlite client to export the data.

Re: [darktable-user] Issues with drawn mask brush

2017-09-26 Thread Rafa García
Hi,

In Mac if you use the scroll in the mouse it will change the size of the
brush.
You achieve the same by using shift+^ (key with ^`[ symbols) to increase
brush size and shift shift+* (key with *+]) to decrease.

When you use shift+scroll up it will increase inner circle BUT it doesn't
work with scroll down (you can maximize it but not reduce its size).
To increase inner circle shift+´ (key with ¨´{ ) and to decreate shift+Ç
(key with ç}).

To increase or decrease the opacity you can use ctrl+mouse scroll.
To do the same with keys use > to increase and < to decrease.

To me this behaviour is consistent since I'm using Darktable.

[darktable-user] Question about a CPU upgrade

2017-09-06 Thread Rafa García
Hi,

I have a desktop with a Radeon RX 460 and an old AMD FX 4300 (overclocked
to 4GHz) but I have chances of buying an AMD FX 8350 at a very good price.

The 8350 has the double of cores and double of memory cache (L2 and L3)
but almost the same clock speed.

I guess I'll obtain a big benefit importing photos (more cores) but it is
not a problem for right now.

My question, will I be benefited when processing photos? I mean, are
processing modules mainly single thread or they take advantage of the cores?

Thanks!

I'm almost sure that manual installation allows you to use kernel 4.11 (or
other) because it is not a compiled kernel module.
I think I have it installed in kernel 4.11 but I'm not at home to check it.
Maybe someone can confirm it.

As far as I know AMD open source drivers doesn't work because doesn't have
"image support" [1].

But you can mix open source drivers with propietary ones (just the OpenCL
libs, the manual installation).

About the performance of the open source drivers I remember good results
against the propietary drivers in a phoronix benchmark
[2].
Anyways open source drivers doesn't work with darktable :(

I can not recommend AMD drivers, at least for Ubuntu 17.04 despite I

The main problem with the AMD drivers are the supported kernels versions

Re: [darktable-user] Darktable behind Proxy

2017-03-22 Thread Rafa García
I don't know why it crashes (maybe an unexpected exception, I have no idea).

Have you got set your proxy environment variables?

 $ export http_proxy="http://proxy;
 $ export https_proxy="https://proxy;

If not, you can try to set it and see what happens.

Re: [darktable-user] what graphics card to get?

2017-01-16 Thread Rafa García
I installed AMDGPU-PRO 16.50 in Ubuntu Gnome following this guide(more or
less, read below): https://www.sabeltand.net/amdgpu-1610/

I used kernel kernel 4.4.41 instead of 4.6.x to avoid patching it.
Furthermore AMDGPU-PRO is being developed for kernel 4.4.x(
https://www.phoronix.com/scan.php?page=news_item=AMDGPU-PRO-Linux-4.8-DKMS
)

You can read the step by step guide and my comment (comment written by Rafa

Re: [darktable-user] What do the sliders of the local contrast tool actually do?

Hi,

When I want to know what I'm changing I change blend mode to difference
and it shows a black background with white/grey points indicating changes.

Hello,

I've been trying to find out what the different sliders on the local
contrast tool actually do in Darktable. There are three sliders and the
working of the first one seems obvious; it adjusts the radius (in pixels?)
of the area the other sliders affect on.

The contrast slider doesn't seem to do anything if the detail slider is in
zero position. In other positions both sliders change contrast, although
differently, the detail slider having a stronger effect. I'd like to know
what these two sliders actually do. I've been testing and observing their
working on different photos, but I still feel that there's too much trial,
error and confusion involved in using them.

I'm not asking for mathematical formulas (although they might be
interesting, if I'd understand them), but rather a clear explanation in
plain English. The explanation on the Darktable user manual is very vague,
and a good amount of googling didn't help either.

I hope someone in the know can take the time to answer this. Perhaps the
answer could be used to improve the user guide. Thanks in advance!

Re: [darktable-user] Bug report

2016-09-18 Thread Rafa García
There's a problem with GTK+ in Mac OS X that broke almost all the UI in Mac
OS X.

You can work by changing values with the mouse not key numbers (be careful
it changes image ratings instead).

If you can work all with mouse you can do it as workaround else latest
version working was Darktable 2.0.4.

Regards

PS: I'm going to compile dartable (master branch) during this week and try
to find some help/fix with GTK+ team via IRC.

Re: [darktable-user] Lighttable Performance on Mac

2016-08-25 Thread Rafa García
By the way I have downloaded a raw sample from a FUJI E550. In darkroom,
it is greenish/yellowish while zoom is less than 55% else the image is
rendered well.

I'm afraid it's an issue with Mac OS X OpenCL implementation

That's true. I profiled darktable 2.0.4 and 2.0.5 using dt-cli (command
line interface). It gave me more or less same times. Then I wondered it
could be a problem with GTK+

I also did some tests with OpenCL enabled and disabled (I'm using a Intel
Iris graphic) and dt-cli versions 2.0.4 and 2.0.5. Times with OpenCL were
~1.5 faster than CPU in both versions.

With Intel Iris graphic card I don't have blur effect in previews but I
have green rendering.
It's reported as issue for Intel graphic cards.

I didn't know it only happens with Nikon NEF files.

Re: [darktable-user] Lighttable Performance on Mac

2016-08-18 Thread Rafa García
I had a Macbook pro retina(late 2013, intel iris graphic cards). I did some
tests with darktable-cli and OpenCL. I saw performance improvements (some
modules took less than half of the time). But the green output did it
useless.

I don't remember were I read it but previous intel graphic cards were
working right in Mac.

Leaving aside OpenCL, I think latest dt (2.0.5) uses a GTK version which
doesn't work well with Mac (bad perfomance and usability problems).

Regards

PS: I had to downgrade to 2.0.4 to use happily dt

Re: [darktable-user] How to get the most out of this image?

2016-05-09 Thread Rafa García
You can find my attempt (exported jpg and xmp):

https://www.dropbox.com/sh/wqb3a1q6dsgji34/AACDEFZC2zzQuSnJ-YARR47ha?dl=0

Steps:

- Correct exposure with exposure and levels module

- Increase sharpen with sharpen module

- With shadows and highlights module to bring out hidden details in head
bird

- Local contrast (I wanted more details)

- Low pass to recover more shadows

- High pass to sharpen more the image

- Raw denoise to remove generated luma noise

I'm not totally happy with noise and detail obtained

Disclaimer: I'm not an expert :)
