Right now (late-2017) the #1 threat, by far, are web browsers with
Javascript enabled. The threats include stealing personal
information, banking... to running in the background for bitcoin
mining...

The #2 threat is software integration, but I digress...

Re: [darktable-user] EXIF info

2017-11-24 Thread Jean-Luc Coulon (f5ibh)
Hi,
In my opinion, appImage are handy to test some applications.
But I think it can be a bit weird on a system if you install many
applications this way.

The correct way to manage a system is to use the packages of the
distribution.
And, if you have the skills, to build yourself packages from source.

Installing the way it is done with appImage can be prone to security
issues: the image is not managed by your distribution and everything
outside is a security issue.

Just my opinion.

You do not need to install any dependencies or anything. Just
download the current .appImage. It's a bundle that contains
everything. Just mark it as chmod +x and you can execute it.

All dependencies are included in the .appImage package.

If you change the xmp file in DK, you will need to ask DT to re-read

a single image).

or you could use dt to manage your photos and simply use exiftool/exiv2 to
read exif information, and those apps/scripts are available for most
platforms.
