Re: [darktable-user] filmic question
Hi David, Aurélien who created this module points out this will happen when noise is present in the image. I recommend using denoise profiled from the start to prevent this issue. Apply denoise and then retry the filmic auto settings. Also the automatic options are not always the best, but they often make a nice starting point. [darktable-user] filmic question
I have been trying to solve a filmic puzzle. With an absolute minimum of modules in the pipe-line and with a correctly exposed image filmic insists on placing the black slider at the extreme left side. In other words it is failing (I think) to correctly analyze my image shadow data. The white slider appears to be correctly located. Previously when I discussed this problem it was suggested that some 'older' modules were the cause of the problem but with current tests, using only the barest of input, the problem persists. It appears that filmic is simply expanding the dark areas on all occasions. Any ideas? David darktable user mailing list to unsubscribe send a mail to darktable-user+unsubscr...@lists.darktable.org

Aurélian Pierre says in his blog post about Filmic that what you describe can happen with RAF files because of an issue with demosaicing them. He advises manual adjustment. mac This is what Aurélian says about this 'known issue': "In noisy pictures, or in pictures that suffer from poor demosaicing (RAW from X-trans sensors), the black level will often be detected at -16 EV (minimum of the range). You need to correct that manually to obtain realistic values." [darktable-user] filmic question
Can somebody explain why (on some occasions only) the 'black relative exposure' slider, sets itself to a maximum value when using the 'auto tune levels'. The value appears to be totally incorrect and manual correction needs to be made. David darktable user mailing list to unsubscribe send a mail to darktable-user+unsubscr...@lists.darktable.org
