Iptables doesn't, ip6tables does.

Yes, but only if you have a "real" ipv6 address on that nic (ie, site or
global address). To block the ports for ipv6, use the same commands using
ip6tables instead of iptables - it should be that easy.

mplex is in mjpegtools, which you should find on marillat (and source on SF).
Despite it's name, it has a range of mpeg, mpeg2 and mjpeg tools

Since ide-scsi is not in your bootparams (the "command line" above), my guess
is that you have ide-scsi in /etc/modules. If you do, remove it. Then
reboot.

If that isn't the case, did you compile your kernel? Maybe you turned ide-scsi
on?

As of 2.6.0, noone should use ide-scsi (unless it doesn't work at all without
it).

Hope this helps.

I've just upgraded from 2.6.12 to 2.6.14-2 (-amd64-k8-smp).

The snd module and the modules for my sound card refuse to load. Below is the

Is there an update coming? Is there something I can do?

Re: dual opteron m/b: S2875ANRF vs. GA-7A8DW

2005-02-23 Thread Lee Begg
I have a Gigabyte GA-7A8DW.

Installs (sid-amd64-netinst.iso) and runs perfectly fine on Pure64/unstable.
The EATX size caught me out and I had to get a bigger case.

$ uptime
 17:19:49 up 26 days, 14 min, 2 users, load average: 1.42, 0.53, 0.23
(not working too hard currently, but was compiling with make -j2 :-)

The two PCI-X slots can be used as standard PCI slots.

The only thing to watch for is to make sure the DDR is in the right slots, or
it won't boot (at all).

Hope this helps.

Here in New Zealand, I have to pay for all traffic to and from my connection -
there isn't any choice in it currently. For some of us it isn't an issue of
horrible upload speeds (although they are pathetic here anyway) but the cost
per MB downloaded & uploaded.

Hopefully this situation will change, but until it does there is a number of
people who will not support it.

I love bittorrent but I have to keep my traffic local to NZ.

It has loaded the via82cxxx *after* the ide_generic module. Hence the
ide_generic driver (that doesn't allow DMA to be turned on) is being used.

In /etc/modules put "via82cxxx" above ide_generic (if it appears), and reboot.
If via82cxxx is the right module, DMA should be enabled.

Motherboard Report: Gigabyte GA-7A8DW

2005-01-14 Thread Lee Begg
Another successful install of sid-amd64-netinst.iso.

The GA-7A8DW is a Dual Opteron motherboad.

ATA: amd74xx
SATA: sata_sil
Network: tg3

It is running very well. I have most of the apps I had under x86. Notable
exceptions: valgrind and kdemultimedia. I believe that kdemultimedia depends
on juk, that depends on libflac4, which I hope will get tidied up soon.
Haven't had the nerve yet to try udev but would like to.

Amd64, Xinerama and Kde

2005-01-16 Thread Lee Begg
Hi

I was wondering if anyone could point me in the right direction for a solution
to the problem I have.

I'm running Debian amd64 pure64, with a Radeon 9800 Pro, two heads: one crt,
one lcd. Xinerama appears to be set up correctly as my screensaver currently
works across both monitors together (pyro in xscreensaver). I'm using the
XFree radeon driver.

When kdm starts, after showing the login dialog and the standard X background,
there seems to be a redrawing problem when the configured kde background is
loaded.

Once KDE is loaded, issues around redrawing continue, and the image on the
second monitor is almost completely corrupted. When a window is moved onto
the second monitor, the window decorations and images a drawn on the first
monitor (the text sometimes appears on the second monitor, but not always.)

Has anyone else had this problem?
Any ideas on a solution?

I've just tried out fluxbox and enlightenment, and both show the same issues,
drawing window decorations (titlebar, etc) always on the first monitor, even
with the window on the second.

So maybe it is my setup (two displays on a radeon 9800), or an amd64 problem
(xfree86-server, xlibs, kde, )...

Any hints or suggestions?
