Bug#316952: tetex-bin: Type 1 fonts are not used by default

2005-07-04 Thread Patrick Pletscher
Subject: tetex-bin: Type 1 fonts are not used by default
Package: tetex-bin
Version: 3.0-4
Severity: normal
Tags: experimental

As mentioned yesterday on the mailing list I think I found a bug in
tetex-bin (or a related package) in experimental. Until 3.0-3 the
default behaviour of pdflatex for the KOMA classes (I guess the same
applies for other documentclasses as well) was to use T1 fonts, if
possible and not manually selected otherwise. As of installing 3.0-4 I
get documents which use T3 fonts. To reproduce you can use for example
the following test document.

\documentclass{scrartcl}

\begin{document}

\title{test}
\author{test}

\maketitle

\end{document}

Regards, Patrick

Bug#316951: openoffice.org2: compile errors

2005-07-04 Thread Brian May
Package: openoffice.org2
Version: 1.9.108-1
Severity: serious
Tags: experimental
Justification: no longer builds from source

When compiling on a Ubuntu system with gcc-4.0 4.0_4.0.0ds1-11 ported
from Debian, I noticed some compile errors. I think some of these are
applicable to Debian, so I am reporting my solutions here in case they
can help others.

#1. configure script reported error that it can't find jni.h. I found
this was because jni.h is located under the gcc 4.0 include directory:

[EMAIL PROTECTED]:/var/cache/pbuilder/result$ dpkg -c
libgcj6-dev_4.0.0-11.ivt.1_i386.deb  | grep jni.h
-rw-r--r-- root/root 62692 2005-07-04 17:22:24
./usr/lib/gcc/i486-linux-gnu/4.0.1/include/jni.h

Meaning it can only be found by gcc-4.0.1. However, debian/rules
was still using 3.4.

Solution:

GCC_VERSION = 3.4

Changed to:

GCC_VERSION = 4.0

#2. Error that libjawt doesn't exist. This is because it was renamed to
libgcjawt in version gcc-4.0 4.0.0ds1-9ubuntu1, which is in the Debian
version.

Solution:

1. delete bean-no-libgcjawt.diff from ooo-build/patches/src680/.

2. also delete the following lines from ooo-build/patches/src680/apply.

--- cut ---
[ GCJ >= src680-m108 ]
# libgcjawt.so exists only for traget gcc 4.1.0, 4.0.x has libjawt.so
bean-no-libgcjawt.diff
--- cut ---

#3. Compile error:

thanks

Hi,

Reported bug is fixed in an NMU I just uploaded to the 7-day delayed
queue on gluck.

debian/changelog is detailed on what's changed:

 in control: s/Depends: libcurl3/Depends: ${shlibs:Depends}/;
 in rules: uncomment dh_shlibdeps

.

Kees: if you prepare a new package within 6 days, I (or another
developer) might have time to get this NMU skipped.

Thanks, Bye,

Joost

Pardon my ignorance, but I'm used to '.deb' files, not trunk sources --
what's the correct way to safely install that subversion source? I'd be
happy to test v2.3.0 after I learn how to safely install it.

Thanks for the quick response. Sorry, I didn't realize how old 4.14 was
(from woody, judging from the dates in the changelog). It's strange that
'reportbug' didn't tell me this, even though it said it was checking the
archive for newer versions.

I assumed that my xscreensaver package was upgraded last week when I
installed Gnome 2.10, but it appears not. It was after that upgrade
that I started noticing this problem, however, so perhaps it is somehow
related.

I have just upgraded to 4.21-3, restarted the daemon, and re-tested
xscreensaver-demo, and I'm still experiencing the same buggy behaviour.
Please let me know if there is any other information I can provide.

This is just a new symptom of the fact that m68k support has been wrong for
a long time. It's using the syscall table that's right for i386, and they
are not the same any more. An m68k hacker needs to supply a current
syscall table for strace.

Bug#316939: aptitude: cursor displayed in wrong place for wide-char prompt

2005-07-04 Thread Miles Bader
Package: aptitude
Version: 0.3.3-1
Severity: minor

Wide-character support seems to have improved a lot in aptitude 3.3, but
I noticed the following case still has a funny glitch.

I use the aptitude "emacs-style minibuffer" option for prompts and
questions.

With LANG=ja_JP.UTF-8, the prompt for quitting looks like this:

 aptitude λޤ? [n]y

However, while it waits for user input, the terminal cursor is displayed
on top of the "", not at the end of the line; it seems to be
calculating the cursor position assuming that all displayed characters
are only single-width.

Thanks,

-Miles

Bug#316935: dpkg doesn't properly apply symlink changes

2005-07-04 Thread John Richard Moser
Package: dpkg
Version: 1.13.10

I stumbled across a bug in dpkg where symlinks can be misapplied in some
cases. The bug is only visible at rare times, which I've only
encountered twice so far during the changing directory structure of the
Xorg packages while trying to track the pre-release development of the
Breezy distribution of the Ubuntu debian-based Linux distribution.

The problem seems to be that symlinks are created somehow as the
appropriate ln -s command would create them, with no checks. In my most
recent example, this caused /usr/bin/X11/bin to link to /usr/bin;
apparently the idea was to have /usr/bin/X11 link to /usr/bin, but
/usr/bin/X11 was a pre-existing directory. This makes sense if you
consider the behavior of "ln -s /usr/bin /usr/bin/X11".

The previous problem I encountered had /usr/X11R6/bin/Xorg linked to
../../X11R6/Xorg. Reinstalling the package didn't help, nor did
upgrading; but reinstalling the entire distribution and then upgrading
fixed the problem, even with the alternate installation (separate
partition) still repeting the problem. This left me confused at the
time; but with the recent issue, this behavior now leads me to conclude
that the package manager is not properly installing symlinks.

The package manager MUST understand what it's doing with packages. It
must know where files go and where to put them. As a particular
example, Gentoo's package manager Portage isolates the building and
configuring of a package utilizing a sandboxing library; for Debian and
dpkg, the build process is on a server, and the preinstallation duties
could and probably should occur in a sandboxed path in /var/tmp.

Installing the result to / should occur after a strict test for file
name collisions; directories in the sandbox may exist in the target
installation root as directories or symlinks, while directories in the
target installation root may only collide with directories in the
sandbox. Removing a package removes any directories in the package that
still exist but are empty; otherwise they are left where they are.

Any other changes made by the preinstall and postinstall scripts should
be tracked and removable by the package manager, as related to Ubuntu
bug #11692 which most likely affects Debian as well. The details of
that bug should really be filed separately, but the issue and solution
are pretty much the same.

Bug#287025: asterisk -rx 'restart now' fails

2005-07-04 Thread Tzafrir Cohen
I looked again into this issue.

strace -f /etc/init.d/asterisk start

and in another terminal later: asterisk -rx 'restart now'

At least on my system asterisk is run with real-time priority. When I
try to run 'restart now' it eventually gets "permission denied" for
sched_setscheduler, prints "Unable to set high priority" to the standard
output and exists.

This is a substatial limitation. I don't see any easy way around it.
Unless that call is unnecessary because the asterisk process already has
those permissions.

Disabled realtime priority and repeated the experiment. Asterisk still
crashes. This time it gets denied when trying to run setgroups32, and
prints to the standard output "Unable to Initialize Supplamnetarry
[something]".

But is there a real reason for asterisk to re-setuid on restart? This
part could probably be skipped.

This is probably an Ubuntu thing. Debian uses S40umountfs

Well, sysvinit or initscripts doesn't shut down the loopback interface.

What script, exactly ?

I think you filed this bugreport to the wrong package. The problems
all seem to be in Ubuntu versions of the package, or in the ifupdown
package. Please reassign the bug.

Bug#149425: should compress data before sending

2005-07-04 Thread Petter Reinholdtsen

Here is a draft patch to add support for sending compressed MIME
emails using mime-construct. I choosed this over mimencode from
metamail as the former is able to add the required headers while the
latter depend on us to do it. I prefer to leave the responsibitilty
of getting the MIME headers right to someone else, and thus selected
mime-construct.

A few things need to be decided or done before it can go into the
archive:

 - Is the MIME type a good one? Really wanted to use simliar headers
   as the HTTP headers, but mime-construct do not support x-gzip as a
   content encoding. The content is text, and the encoding is both
   x-gzip and base64. No idea how to represent that in MIME, so I
   picked application/x-popcon-compressed as the content type instead.

 - The receiving end need to be written. mimedecode might perhaps be
   used there?

Here is my proposed client side patch, relative to the current CVS:

Bug#316932: apcupsd fails to shut down the UPS after a power failure

2005-07-04 Thread Octavian Afilipoai
Package: apcupsd
Version: 3.10.17-2
Severity: important

After a power failure apcupsd shuts down the system
but fails to shut down the UPS. This prevents the
system from coming back online when the power is
restored

The messages on the console are as follow:

apcupsd: Ordering UPS to kill power ... Apccontrol
doing: /sbin/apcupsd --killpower
/sbin/apcupsd: error while loading shared libraries
libcrypto.so.0.9.7: cannot open shared object file: No
such file or directory
/etc/apcupsd/apccontrol: line 64: wall: command not

done

My hardware is an BackUPS XS 800 connected to USB

If I manually compile and install apcupsd-3.10.17a I
don't have this problem (apcupsd does not complain
about the shared object missing). These are the
configure options for the manual build:
./configure --enable-usb --with-upstype=usb
--with-upscable=usb --prefix=/usr/local
--sbindir=/sbin --with-log-dir=/etc/apcupsd
--enable-pthreads

I am using:
Debian GNU/Linux 3.1 (sarge)
kernel 2.6.11-1-686 (stock kernel for testing because
of bug #313642)
libc6 2.3.2.ds1-22

Crypt::DH is a Perl implementation of the Diffie-Hellman key exchange

Bug#316931: xscreensaver-demo: ignores current settings from .xscreensaver

2005-07-04 Thread Jason D. Hildebrand
Package: xscreensaver
Version: 4.14-4
Severity: normal

Since upgrading to version 4.14 last week, I have not been able to change
my settings via xscreensaver-demo. This is the behaviour I have seen:

1. I start xscreensaver-demo, and change the blanking time to 5 minutes.
2. I quit xscreensaver-demo.  ~/.xscreensaver is correct (set to 5 minutes)
3. The next time I open xscreensaver-demo, the blanking time in the GUI
   is set to 1 minute. If I quit, it saves over the existing ~/.xscreensaver
   config, changing the time from 5 minute to 1 minute, even though I simply
   opened and then closed the program.

This same behaviour also happens with the dpmsStand* settings. It seems
as though the .xscreensaver file is being ignored, even though strace shows
that it is in fact being read:

stat64("/home/jdhildeb/.xscreensaver", {st_mode=S_IFREG|0644, st_size=10874,
...}) = 0 open("/home/jdhildeb/.xscreensaver", O_RDONLY) = 4
fstat64(4, {st_mode=S_IFREG|0644, st_size=10874, ...}) = 0 fstat64(4,
{st_mode=S_IFREG|0644, st_size=10874, ...}) = 0
mmap2(NULL, 4096, PROT_READ|PROT_WRITE, MAP_PRIVATE|MAP_ANONYMOUS, -1, 0) =
0xb7438000
read(4, "# XScreenSaver Preferences File\n"..., 4096) = 4096 read(4, "\t\t\t\t
  \\n\\\n\t\t\t\tt3d -root\t\t\t\t   "..., 4096) = 4096
brk(0)  = 0x80dc000 brk(0x8119000)
= 0x8119000
brk(0)  = 0x8119000 brk(0)
= 0x8119000
brk(0x80fd000)  = 0x80fd000
brk(0)  = 0x80fd000
read(4, "ot -mode grab\t\t\t\\n\\\n  GL: \t\t"..., 4096) = 2682
mmap2(NULL, 253952, PROT_READ|PROT_WRITE, MAP_PRIVATE|MAP_ANONYMOUS, -1, 0) =
0xb73b8000
brk(0)  = 0x80fd000

I also tried moving the existing .xscreensaver file out of the way (in
case it was choking on something in the file from the previous version), but
the same behaviour persisted.

Bug#173513: [Bug tree-optimization/3713] Pointers to functions or member functions are not folded or inlined

2005-07-04 Thread pinskia at gcc dot gnu dot org

--- Additional Comments From pinskia at gcc dot gnu dot org 2005-07-04
21:54 ---
Actually the testcase above is not really valid.
The below testcase is more correct as A::p cannot be inlined as it has its
address taken (stupid bug in
the C++ front-end really).
But here is a better testcase:
struct A
{
void foo()
{
}
};

int main()
{
 void (A::* const p)() = & A::foo;
A a;
(a.*p)();
}

 cut ---
  D.1749 = (int) foo;
  if ((D.1749 & 1) != 0) goto ; else goto ;

hmm, we need to know the alignment of a function, which is weird. Why is the
C++ front-end
producing code like this, oh well.

Bug#316906: lyx: Changing temp folder path causes change of default fonts.

2005-07-04 Thread Marc Jeffrey Driftmeyer
Does LyX explicitly compile a dependency against freetype 2.1.x? Does
it map fonts against fonts.conf where it looks up your user defined font
references/family names, so on and so forth or does it compile with a
dependency against type1 fonts via X11?

Bug#316930: Updatedb doesn't run 'find' at the nice priority set in updatedb.conf

2005-07-04 Thread David Jarvie
Package: findutils
Version: 4.2.22-1

My /etc/updatedb.conf contains (among other things):

LOCALUSER="root"
export LOCALUSER
NICE=19
export NICE

and when updatedb is run by cron from /etc/cron.daily/find, it runs at the
expected nice priority of 19. However, when updatedb runs 'find', find's nice
level is 0, not 19. Running /etc/cron.daily/find manually as root produces
the same result.

The output from running it manually and then checking the status with 'ps -eo
"%p %P %n %a"' was:

28410  4824   0 /bin/sh /etc/cron.daily/find
28412 28410  19 /bin/sh /usr/bin/updatedb
28420 28412  19 /bin/sh /usr/bin/updatedb
28422 28412  19 /usr/bin/sort -z -f
28423 28412  19 /usr/lib/locate/frcode -0
28426 28420   0 /usr/bin/find / -ignore_readdir_race ( -fstype NFS -o -fstype
nfs -o -fstyp

I'm running Debian testing i386, with kernel 2.6.8, with libc6 2.3.2.ds1-22.

This bug really makes my system slow down until find finishes - it would be
really useful to have it fixed.

Bug#316928: mozilla-thunderbird: poor managing of smiley

2005-07-04 Thread A Mennucc
Package: mozilla-thunderbird
Version: 1.0.2-2
Severity: normal

hi

I like smileys , but the managing of them in HTML messages is buggy:
if you try to move with arrows in the text and move the cursor over a smiley,
 sometimes the cursor will stuck; sometimes it will be impossible to
delete a smiley.

But worse of all, I sent an email with damaged text today:
I had inserted a smiley, then deleted it and changed it with another one,
and wrote more text: the resulting email message in HTML form was as follows

v
yes and that would be best
 ;-)

otherwise your options are:
1) try at shop
2) read PDF
3)   look on web at ,
3) call me again

What shows up to the person who received it is

yes and that would be best [smiley] look on web at ,
3) call me again
^^
as you see some part of the sentence is not rendered.
That was quite annoying.

Maybe it would be simpler if smileys would be represented by only one
tag: why does mozilla-thunderbird use
 :-)
instead of a simpler
 :-)
??

Bug#316929: Package: installation-reports

2005-07-04 Thread Mariusz Matuszek

Package: installation-reports

Debian-installer-version: as on debian-31r0a-i386-netinst.iso

uname -a: did not check, but booted 'linux26' from i386 netinst CD

Date: 03 Jul 2005

Method: booting i386-netinst CD, rest of info irrelevant for this report

Machine: a slightly oldish PII PC
Processor: PII 333MHz
Memory: 96MB
Root Device: /dev/hda
Root Size/partition table: PARTITIONING FAILED, description at end.

Output of lspci and lspci -n: irrelevant

Base System Installation Checklist:
[O] = OK, [E] = Error (please elaborate below), [ ] = didn't try it

Initial boot worked:[O]
Configure network HW:   [E/O]
Config network: [Y]
Detect CD:  [Y]
Load installer modules: [Y]
Detect hard drives: [E]
Partition hard drives:  [E]
Create file systems:[ ]
Mount partitions:   [ ]
Install base system:[ ]
Install boot loader:[ ]
Reboot: [ ]

Comments/Problems:

- NIC is a NE2000 clone sitting on ISA. It was not auto detected.
  Loading 'ne io=0x300-0x31f irq=5' by hand solved the problem.

- BIOS is seriously buggy and will hang upon detecting HDD with a
  capacity>33GB during boot. The HDD was jumpered to lie about its
  real capacity (80GB) to the BIOS. Boot process continued fine, but
  Debian Installer INSISTED on using the fake HDD capacity instead of
  detecting the real one.

- Partitioning of a HDD with incorrectly detected capacity was useless.

As a quick check I tested SUSE9.3 install on this PC. Install went fine
with the real HDD capacity detected, however this distro is too bloated
to keep it. Esp. on a low-end PC.

I just uploaded texmacs-1.0.5.5-1 to the experimental distribution with
a workaround for bug #309727 which, I suspect, is the same bug as yours.

my /etc/enviroment contains  JAVA_HOME=/usr/lib/j2sdk1.5-sun.

kaffe currently cannot run tomcat4 with security manager enabled.
See bug #316580 - I therefore merge the bug reports.

When I ITP'd this over a year ago (#234291), it turned out that a lot
of source files had no license notices. I note that this is still
true: see for example input/musepack/bitstream.c. This might be
tedious to resolve because the code was "borrowed" from several
original authors. Tracking them down and getting everybody's
permission to license their code as GPLv2 or whatever is something I
intended to do, but I dropped the ball.

I did ping current upstream to ask about this, but received no reply.

I should already have a login on another system but due to use of GPG

It works fine but doesn't have all the build deps I need on it (I've
asked for them but they've not been added yet).

I know. I'm subscribed to pine-announce.

I was planning to release 4.63 and introduce debconf support, but as I
have not had time to study debconf docs carefully yet (as they deserve
to be read), perhaps I should better release 4.63 and leave the
debconf stuff for a later release.

Bug#316817: azureus: new upstream version with bugfixes

2005-07-04 Thread Shaun Jackman
I'm glad you're enjoying Azureus. I think it's a great piece of
software. I've uploaded Azureus 2.3.0.4

I don't know anything about the gnomevfs warning at the moment. If I
find some spare time (I wish!) I'll see what I can learn about it. I'm
using libgnomevfs2-0 2.8.4-4 and I'm also seeing the same warnings.
When Gnome 2.10 transitions to testing, if the warnings persist submit
a bug and I'll forward it upstream.

Cheers!

Bug#316925: Mounting CD/DVD doesn't change hal properties

2005-07-04 Thread Vedran Furac
Package: hal
Version: 0.4.8-3
Severity: important

After mounting CD/DVD hal have to change properties (from lshal) from:
volume.is_mounted = false  (bool)
volume.mount_point = ''  (string)
to:
volume.is_mounted = true  (bool)
volume.mount_point = '/media/cd'  (string)

but this doesn't happen.

If I run $ lshal --monitor and mount CD/DVD I should get something like:

*** lshal: property_modified,
udi=/org/freedesktop/Hal/devices/block_foo, key=volume.is_mounted
   is_removed=false, is_added=false
*** new value: true  (bool)

*** lshal: property_modified,
udi=/org/freedesktop/Hal/devices/block_foo, key=volume.mount_point

*** new value: '/media/cd'  (string)

*** lshal: device_condition,
udi=/org/freedesktop/Hal/devices/block_foo
   condition_name=VolumeMount

but I don't get anything.

When inserting/ejecting CD/DVD I get output from
$ hald --daemon=no --verbose=yes
but when mounting...nothing.

Because of this some programs (ivman for example) doesn't work properly. It's
strange because on other computer everything works fine with same packages
and kernel. Purging hal and clean install didn't help. I would like to
install dbus/hal from experimental but they have dependency problems.

Hi,

While mp3kult has seen a stable release, upstream has halted
development almost 3 years ago. For this reason, while it probably
still works nowadays, it's bound to suffer from bit rot.

Bug#316924: yafray: Crashes rendering in full GI method and photons enabled

2005-07-04 Thread Alejandro Lorenzo Gallego
Package: yafray
Version: 0.0.7-2
Severity: important

I am using Blender+Yafray to render and i think i have found a problem
in yafray.

I don't know if the problem is specific to Debian or it is in the
upstream code, since i wasn't able to compile the source code.

The problem is that the program crashes in a reproducible way when
rendering a scene. It is easily reproducible if you are using blender:

1.-Open Blender, the standard scene will do.
2.-Change the Render of the scene from 'Blender internal's' to 'yafray'
3.-Deactivate xml export (or define a path to export and use that
option,it is not important)
4.-Select Full method for GI
5.-Activate Photons to the render
6.-Start the Render (F12)
7.-Yafray crashes and also crashes blender if you are rendering using
the plugin instead the xml esport

8.- Profit!!!  rm...no, this doesn't belongs here

I have uploaded a .xml file that makes the yafray crashing:

http://ballfire.ath.cx/~alex/YBtest.xml

usage: yafray YBtest.xml

Result: crash of yafray

Bug#316922: RFH: lsdvd -- read the contents of a DVD

2005-07-04 Thread Petter Reinholdtsen

Package: wnpp
Severity: normal

I request assistance with maintaining the lsdvd package.

The package description is:

 An application for reading the contents of a DVD and printing the
 contents to your terminal.

I maintain this package as it was the only freevo dependency missing
in Debian, and I use freevo. But I do not own a dvd player, so I have
no way to test lsdvd myself. I would like a co-maintainer with a dvd
player to be able to assist me in maintaining the package. Perhaps
some future maintainer of freevo is interested?

The package is a very simple wrapper around the libdvsread library,
and just a few hundred lines of C code.

Upstream is responsive, though fairly busy and do not release new
lsdvd versions very often.

Removing either or both of them does not change the situation.
Even removing the ~/.gnome2/session file entirely does not change
anything. I noticed the following processes:

28380 ?Ss 0:00 /usr/lib/bonobo-activation/bonobo-activation-server
--ac-activate --ior-output-fd=20
28382 ?Ss 0:00 gnome-smproxy --sm-client-id default0

--oaf-activate-iid=OAFIID:GNOME_SettingsDaemon --oaf-ior-fd=23

Terminating gnome-settings-daemon and restarting manually with the
same parameters but --oaf-ior-fd=20 results in progress but panel
applets and some other stuff doesn't start up.

Bug#316916: texmacs: Axiom interface answers only many lines late

2005-07-04 Thread Bastiaan Zapf

Package: texmacs
Version: 1:1.0.5-2
Severity: normal

1. I start up texmacs
2. I open an axiom session. "tm_axiom" is started.
3. I type something in the session. No reply.
4. I type something else (blank or non blank lines)
5. After about 5-20 lines, the response to the "something" arrives.
6. Similarly late, apparently in order, the responses to the other
non-blank lines are coming in
7. this sucks

Other interfaces work fine.

I tried running tm_axiom by hand (reading through the latex code
appearing), and it had the same symptoms:

Bug#316918: distributed-net: Please update the distributed.net package. Newest version is much faster.

2005-07-04 Thread Konrad D?browski
Package: distributed-net
Version: 2.9008.490-2
Severity: normal

Quoting from
http://n0cgi.distributed.net/cgi/dnet-finger.cgi?user=bovine :

"Included with client version 2.9010.495 and higher are some exciting
speed improvements. Three new RC5-72 cores have been added, including
a new 64-bit core for AMD64 and two existing x86 RC5-72 cores have
been sped up. In addition a new OGR core has been added that provides
an approximate 30% improvement."

and

"The 'dg3', 'sgp3', and 'snjl' cores present in versions prior to
2.9010.495 miscalculate a small number of predictable keys in every
block ... All current x86 clients need to be upgraded to prevent the amount
of work that would need to be recalculated from growing."

Please could you upgrade the distributed.net package. Currently the
newest version (for i386) is 2.9011.496.

Thanks very much!
Konrad D.

P.S. I don't know how much work it would be, but would it be possible
for you to include the neccesary stuff for an amd64 package next time
you upload?

Bug#254621: acknowledged by developer (Closing "Kazakh letters entered from the digits row are not sensitive to caps lock")

2005-07-04 Thread Baurzhan Ismagulov
Hello Anton,

thanks for the info!

Yes, this seems to be fixed in 0.9-9. However, I'm not sure whether
parenleft and parenright should be sensitive to caps. I'll check what
Windows does.

With kind regards,
Baurzhan.
